I am quite please with Dr. Greg Burkett's service. His staff was very patient and kind. They were able to get us as a last minute walk in for my birds. He is a very calm vet. The clinic itself is more on the smaller sider however quite comfortable and clean. The only downside I would say is the price. This is the most expensive wellness check up even comparing to Avian and Exotic in Raleigh. Overall, good experience and I recommend this place for your bird needs.

Welcome to Dr. Greg Burkett

Welcome to the introduction of Dr. Greg Burkett Veterinary Care, a dedicated pet hospital located at 3039 University Dr, Durham, NC 27707, USA. While physically situated in North Carolina, this introduction aims to inform local users about the specialized services offered, particularly for those seeking expert care for their avian and exotic pets. Understanding the unique needs of these animal companions, Dr. Greg Burkett provides a range of veterinary services with a focus on patient comfort and well-being.

Dr. Greg Burkett's clinic operates as a specialized pet hospital, distinguishing itself by catering to the often-underserved population of birds and exotic animals. This specialization means that the practice has developed expertise and tailored their environment to better suit the specific requirements of these pets. Unlike general veterinary practices that may see a wide variety of animals, Dr. Burkett's focus allows for a deeper understanding of the unique physiological and behavioral characteristics of avian and exotic species.

Based on customer reviews, the environment of the clinic, while described as "smaller," is consistently highlighted as "comfortable and clean." This suggests a focus on maintaining a sanitary and stress-reduced atmosphere for the animals. For owners of sensitive pets, particularly birds who can be easily agitated by unfamiliar environments, a calm and clean setting is crucial for a positive veterinary experience. While the size might be a consideration for some, the emphasis on comfort and cleanliness indicates a priority for patient well-being within the available space.

The services offered at Dr. Greg Burkett Veterinary Care encompass a range of essential and specialized treatments for avian and exotic pets. While the reviews specifically mention a "wellness check up" and "trims," it is reasonable to infer that a specialized pet hospital like this would also offer diagnostic services, medical treatments, surgical procedures relevant to their specialty, nutritional counseling, and potentially grooming services tailored to these species. The ability to accommodate a "last minute walk in" for birds, as mentioned in one review, suggests a degree of flexibility and commitment to addressing urgent needs.

A significant feature repeatedly praised in the customer testimonials is Dr. Burkett's approach to handling animals, particularly those that are typically difficult to manage. One reviewer with a 28-year-old African Grey, described as a "TOUCH ME NOT" who usually "screams his head off," noted that the method Dr. Burkett uses for containment during procedures like trims is unlike anything they had seen before, resulting in a calm experience for the bird. This highlights a unique skill and understanding of animal behavior, which is particularly valuable when dealing with potentially stressed or fearful exotic pets. This gentle and effective handling technique can significantly improve the pet's comfort and the owner's peace of mind during veterinary visits.

Another notable feature, especially for clients who travel, is the clinic's willingness to "accommodate our crazy schedule." This suggests a commitment to working with pet owners' needs and potentially offering some flexibility in appointment times or communication. For individuals with demanding lifestyles or those traveling with their pets, finding a veterinary practice that understands and can adapt to their schedules is a significant benefit.

While the positive aspects of care and expertise are consistently lauded, one reviewer mentioned that the "price" for a wellness check-up was higher compared to other avian and exotic vets in the region. This is an important piece of information for potential clients to consider. While specialized care often comes with a higher cost due to the expertise, equipment, and time involved, it is advisable for pet owners to inquire about pricing for specific services to make informed decisions based on their budget and the needs of their pet.

In summary, Dr. Greg Burkett Veterinary Care offers specialized pet hospital services with a strong focus on avian and exotic animals. The clinic provides a comfortable and clean environment, and Dr. Burkett is praised for his patient staff and unique, effective handling techniques, particularly beneficial for challenging pets. The ability to accommodate flexible schedules is another advantage for pet owners. While the cost of some services may be higher compared to other providers in the area, the expertise and quality of care, especially for birds and exotic pets, appear to be highly valued by existing clients. For local users in search of a dedicated and experienced veterinarian for their avian or exotic companions, Dr. Greg Burkett Veterinary Care presents a compelling option, emphasizing gentle handling and specialized knowledge.

In 2022 I started traveling/work camping up and down the Eastern part of the US. Dr. Burkett has been a blessing to me and my 28 yo African Grey. His office always accommodates our crazy schedule. The method he uses to contain him while doing trims is like nothing I have ever seen. Izzy is a TOUCH ME NOT and usually screams his head off, but not at Dr. Burkett's office. Note: We were not moving when my funny guy decided he was gonna drive the bus.

Will never recommend this place and this doctor due to my personal experience. I took my cocktail to this doctor and he said he had much better medicine than vet emergency’s, and suggested my bird hospitalization. But he and his team cannot give the bird proper care. They mess up the weight of the bird, my bird was starving and dead after that! but everyday I called them, they gave me the answer is the my bird is getting better! How I could recommend the place like that! I hate myself why I brought my bird to this place to this doctor!

My mom took her parrot here for a chest check up cause she was having trouble breathing. When my mom took her in she had high pitch whistle sounds when breathing. Mr. Burkett just said she was sick and gave her medicine and charged 150$ the very next day when we wake up she sadly passed. I highly recommended to go to experts that have equipment! It’s better to pay more then lose a loving member.

I woke up to find that my 15 year old Macaw had completely plucked all the feathers off her back. In a bit of a panic, I called my normal avian vet, who told me this wasn’t really an emergency and I’d have to wait two weeks for an appointment. I was speechless, as I have been a customer for over 15 years. I called Dr Burkett and he understood my concerns, and even as a completely new patient he fit me in on a Saturday! A full workup later and my very aroused Macaw is now on a hormone therapy, and more importantly I have the peace of mind to know there isn’t an underlying medical condition. I have three large parrots, and they are all now patients of Dr. Burkett. I’m very happy to have found him, and to know that my parrots are under his excellent care.
