Welcome to Dr. Grain
Welcome to the former practice of Dr. Grain, now located at 6803 Cherry Ave in Long Beach, CA, and operating as a local Pet Hospital. Serving the Long Beach community, this clinic was known for the care and expertise of Dr. Grain and his dedicated staff. While Dr. Grain has recently retired, the practice continues to operate with Dr. Jay now providing veterinary services. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview based on the available customer reviews, highlighting both the past reputation and recent experiences at this location.
Situated at 6803 Cherry Ave, Long Beach, CA 90805, USA, the clinic is accessible to pet owners in the Long Beach area seeking veterinary care. You can reach the office at their phone number: (562) 422-1223 or their mobile number: +1 562-422-1223 for any inquiries or to schedule appointments with Dr. Jay. The legacy of Dr. Grain's practice suggests a long-standing commitment to animal health within the community.
According to one enthusiastic review, "Dr. Grain n his staff are So Awesome! My pups are in very good hands and well taken care of at this office." This positive feedback speaks to the quality of care and the dedication of the team under Dr. Grain's leadership. It suggests a welcoming and competent environment where pet owners felt confident in the well-being of their animals. The mention of "pups" being in "very good hands" implies a gentle and nurturing approach to animal care, which is a significant aspect of a positive pet hospital experience.
However, another more recent review offers a contrasting perspective following Dr. Grain's retirement and the introduction of Dr. Jay. This customer expressed missing Dr. Grain, describing him as "very knowledgeable" and someone who "wasn't out to financially take advantage." This highlights a past perception of trust and competence associated with Dr. Grain. The reviewer notes that while "Dr Jay is nice," they felt less comfortable under the new veterinarian's care. This sentiment suggests that the transition in leadership has impacted some long-term clients' sense of security and confidence in the practice.
The same reviewer also detailed a specific medical issue their dog experienced under Dr. Jay's care. They brought their pup in for mouth issues, including a growth noticed by the owner's sister. While Dr. Jay identified teeth issues and performed extractions, the growth was not addressed. Despite the owner's trust in the doctor's assessment that it was "nothing," the abscess subsequently grew larger, necessitating a return visit for removal and causing the owner concern about additional costs and the effects of anesthesia. This detailed account raises concerns about diagnostic accuracy and the thoroughness of the initial examination in this particular case.
Given these differing perspectives, it is challenging to definitively describe the current environment and services without further information. However, we can infer some aspects based on the reviews. The continued operation at the same location suggests an established infrastructure for providing veterinary care. The presence of staff alongside Dr. Jay indicates ongoing support for patient needs. However, potential clients should be aware of the varying experiences reported by recent customers.
Based on the general nature of a Pet Hospital, the services likely offered at this location include:
- General Wellness Exams: Routine check-ups to assess your pet's overall health.
- Vaccinations: Administering necessary immunizations to protect against common diseases.
- Dental Care: Addressing dental issues, as indicated in the second review, which may include examinations, cleanings, and extractions.
- Diagnosis and Treatment of Illnesses: Identifying and treating various medical conditions affecting pets.
- Surgical Procedures: Performing surgeries, as mentioned with the tooth extractions and the need for abscess removal. The availability of anesthesia suggests the capacity for surgical interventions.
- Medication Dispensing: Providing prescribed medications for ongoing treatment or recovery.
- Consultations and Advice: Offering guidance on pet care, nutrition, and other health-related topics.
The features of this Pet Hospital, based on the reviews, include a staff that was considered "Awesome" under Dr. Grain's leadership, implying a friendly and efficient team. However, the transition to Dr. Jay has led to some concerns regarding diagnostic thoroughness and the level of comfort experienced by at least one long-term client. The first-hand account of a potentially misdiagnosed issue is a significant point for prospective clients to consider.
Currently, there is no promotional information available for Dr. Grain's practice (now under Dr. Jay's care) based on the provided reviews. Veterinary clinics may occasionally offer promotions for specific services or for new clients, but there is no mention of such offers in the given feedback. To inquire about any current promotions or the pricing of services, it would be best to contact the clinic directly.
In conclusion, the Pet Hospital located at 6803 Cherry Ave in Long Beach, CA, formerly known for Dr. Grain and his "Awesome" staff, is now under the care of Dr. Jay. While the practice has a history of positive patient experiences, a recent review highlights some concerns regarding diagnostic accuracy and a sense of reduced comfort for a long-term client. Prospective clients may want to consider these differing viewpoints when making decisions about their pet's care. It is recommended to contact the clinic directly to discuss your pet's needs and to understand the current practices and approach under Dr. Jay's leadership. While the legacy of Dr. Grain suggests a foundation of good care, the recent experience shared indicates that the transition in veterinary leadership may have resulted in changes that some pet owners have noticed.

Jul 12, 2019 · Patty AlbaI miss Dr. Grain who recently retired. Dr Jay is nice but I felt more comfortable with Dr. Grain. He was very knowledgeable and wasn't out to financially take advantage. I took my pup in for mouth issues that my untrained sister noticed. Dr. Jay saw my dog had teeth issues and I spoke to him about the growth. He removed teeth and not the growth. My sister noticed again the abscess was there but I trusted the doctor that it was nothing. Now the abscess is bigger. My dog will have to go back to have it removed. I will have to pay more and I'm afraid of the anesthesia effects.
Nov 27, 2020 · Big T MiracleI had been here once before and had a decent experience. However this morning's experience was very different. When my wife and I arrived for our 9 AM appointment on a Saturday. I had the door literally slammed in my face while holding my dog in both arms. When I tried to go in I was rudely told with the new restrictions it was one person per pet. Why would they not tell you something like that when setting an appointment? Especially when that appointment is at 9 Am on a Saturday. I am currently sitting in a parking lot waiting for their rude staff to finish. Time to find another vet!
