Dover Veterinary Hospital offers a comprehensive array of veterinary services, positioning itself as a full-service "Pet Hospital" capable of addressing a wide spectrum of animal health needs. Their offerings are designed to cover all life stages of a pet, from preventative care to advanced diagnostics and specialized treatments. Key services include:
- Wellness and Preventative Medicine: This is a cornerstone of their practice, with a strong focus on maintaining long-term health and preventing illness. Services include thorough wellness examinations, individualized vaccination protocols tailored to a pet's specific needs, and robust parasite control programs (for fleas, ticks, and heartworm) to protect pets from common diseases. They believe prevention is key to a pet's long-term health and minimizing lifetime costs.
- Diagnostic Services: The hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools to accurately assess a pet's health condition. This includes state-of-the-art digital radiology (X-rays) for comprehensive internal imaging and an in-house laboratory for rapid and accurate blood work, urinalysis, and other essential tests. These capabilities allow for quick and informed diagnoses.
- Surgical Services: Dover Veterinary Hospital provides a range of surgical procedures, likely encompassing common soft tissue surgeries like spays, neuters, and lump removals. They emphasize safe anesthesia and meticulous monitoring throughout surgical procedures, ensuring the highest level of patient safety and comfort. Pain management is also a critical component of their surgical care.
- Pet Dental Care: Oral health is given significant importance, with comprehensive dental services offered. These typically include professional cleanings (scaling and polishing), digital dental X-rays to assess beneath the gumline, and extractions when necessary. They also provide consultations on at-home dental care to help owners maintain their pet's oral hygiene.
- Holistic Therapies: A distinguishing feature of Dover Veterinary Hospital is its integration of holistic and alternative therapies alongside conventional medicine. This includes:
- Holistic Medicine: A broader approach to health that considers the whole animal, including diet, lifestyle, and emotional well-being.
- Acupuncture: Used for pain management, chronic conditions, and to promote healing and balance within the body.
- Herbal Remedies: Offering natural alternatives or complements to traditional pharmaceuticals for various conditions.
- Vaccine Titers: Providing an alternative to automatic re-vaccination by measuring existing antibody levels, potentially reducing vaccine load on pets.
- Client Services: Beyond direct medical care, the hospital offers comprehensive client support services such as:
- Microchip Pet Identification: For permanent identification and increased chances of reuniting lost pets.
- Behavioral Counseling: Addressing problematic behaviors through expert guidance and support.
- Nutritional Counseling: Offering personalized advice on diet and feeding plans to support optimal health and manage specific conditions.
- Breed-Specific Genetic Testing: To identify predispositions to certain health conditions.
- End-of-Life Care: Providing compassionate support and guidance during the difficult process of saying goodbye to a beloved pet, including euthanasia services.
- Veterinary Pharmacy: An in-house pharmacy ensures convenient access to necessary medications, preventatives, and prescription diets, allowing for immediate treatment initiation and consistent care.
- Emergency Services: While primarily an appointment-based facility, they strive to accommodate urgent and emergency appointments during their regular business hours. For after-hours emergencies, they provide appropriate referrals to specialized emergency veterinary hospitals.

- Integrated Approach to Wellness: The unique blend of conventional Western medicine with holistic and alternative therapies (such as acupuncture and herbal remedies) sets them apart. This comprehensive approach allows for tailored treatment plans that can optimize a pet's health and well-being, especially for chronic conditions or those seeking complementary care.

Our first visit was encouraging, uplifting, and so helpful. The doctor gave us all the time needed to answer our many questions and do a complete physical. The entire staff could not have been more attentive and understanding, which resulted in a wonderful experience for us and our dog. I highly recommend them and give them 5 starts without hesitation!
