Dr Brown has seriously been a gift for our Stella's health !! For the first time in my life I actually feel LISTENED to when I walk into a vets office. She likes to take the natural approach instead of pushing chemical after chemical like unfortunately many other vets tend to do. Please do not listen to any of these negative reviews talking about money & the office requiring a deposit. If you plan on going & taking up an appointment slot there should be no worry about a deposit to hold the appointment. This is by far the BEST vet practice on the island if you are truly involved in whats best for your pet

Welcome to Dongan Hills Veterinary Practice

Dongan Hills Veterinary Practice, located at 289 Dongan Hills Ave, Staten Island, NY 10305, USA, is a highly respected and well-established pet hospital that has served the Staten Island community since its founding in 1986. Recognized as a full-service, AAHA-accredited, family-owned animal hospital, Dongan Hills Veterinary Practice is committed to providing exceptional medical and surgical care with a distinctive emphasis on integrative and holistic approaches. Their mission centers on strengthening the human-animal bond through education, empathy, and personalized treatment, aiming to give pets as many happy, healthy years as possible with their families.

The environment at Dongan Hills Veterinary Practice is characterized by a dedication to creating a comfortable and understanding space for both pets and their owners. As an AAHA-accredited hospital, it adheres to stringent standards for facilities, equipment, and medical protocols, ensuring a clean, safe, and professional setting. However, beyond the clinical standards, the practice strives for a warm and family-centered atmosphere. Client testimonials underscore this, with one reviewer expressing, "For the first time in my life I actually feel LISTENED to when I walk into a vets office." This highlights a key aspect of their environment: a focus on attentive and empathetic communication. While a past review mentioned a deposit requirement, it also clarified that, with resolution, the staff demonstrates "compassion and empathy," especially during difficult times like the loss of a pet. This indicates a commitment to client support and understanding, even when policies might initially cause concern. The overall environment is designed to be one where pet owners feel confident in the care their animals receive and where their input is genuinely valued, contributing to a collaborative approach to pet health.

Dongan Hills Veterinary Practice offers a broad and advanced range of veterinary services, distinguishing itself with its integrative and holistic treatment options. Their comprehensive offerings include essential **preventative care**, such as routine wellness exams, tailored vaccination protocols, and robust parasite control programs. Beyond prevention, they provide extensive **diagnostic services**, including in-house laboratory capabilities for blood work, urinalysis, and fecal analysis, as well as digital radiography, dental digital X-rays, and advanced imaging such as echocardiography and EKG. The hospital performs a variety of **surgical procedures**, encompassing both general soft tissue surgeries and specialized procedures like laparoscopic surgery for both dogs and cats. A significant hallmark of their service is their **integrative medicine approach**, combining evidence-based Western medicine with Eastern modalities. This includes therapies such as **acupuncture, Class IV laser therapy, herbal therapy, ozone therapy, and nutritional formulations**. This holistic perspective aims to provide personalized and effective care, especially when traditional therapies alone may not suffice. They cater to a diverse range of animals, including dogs, cats, birds, ferrets, pocket pets, and other small mammals. Additional services like **dental care, grooming, boarding, and pet counseling** further round out their comprehensive offerings, making them a one-stop solution for many pet owners' needs.

Several key features make Dongan Hills Veterinary Practice a standout choice for pet owners. Foremost among these is their **integrative and holistic approach to veterinary medicine**, spearheaded by veterinarians like Dr. Allison Brown. Clients praise Dr. Brown for taking a "natural approach instead of pushing chemical after chemical," a philosophy that resonates deeply with those seeking alternatives or complements to conventional treatments. Dr. Brown, a DVM, CVA (Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist), and IVCCP (International Veterinary Chiropractic Association Certified Practitioner), is passionate about exploring all avenues to achieve the best health outcomes for pets. Another highly valued feature is the clinic's commitment to **active listening and client education**. Reviewers consistently mention feeling "listened to" and involved in decisions about their pet's welfare, with the practice striving to make pet owners "medical partners" in their pet's health journey. This collaborative approach ensures that pet parents are well-informed and confident in the care provided. Their **AAHA accreditation** signifies a commitment to the highest standards of veterinary excellence, covering all aspects of hospital operation. Furthermore, the practice's long-standing presence since 1986, combined with positive feedback about the "best vet practice on the island," attests to their consistent quality and trusted status within the community. While a deposit policy exists for appointments, the clinic's ultimate willingness to "resolve the issue and process a refund" in sensitive situations, as demonstrated in a review, showcases their underlying empathy and dedication to client satisfaction, even when initial communication may be challenging.

Regarding promotional information, Dongan Hills Veterinary Practice emphasizes value through its comprehensive services and commitment to preventative and integrative care, rather than frequent, overt discounts. As an AAHA-accredited facility, they are promoting a standard of care that signifies quality. Their website suggests that they accept various payment solutions like CareCredit and Scratchpay, which can help pet owners manage the cost of unexpected large veterinary expenses by spacing out payments over time. They also highlight the importance of pet insurance, encouraging clients to explore providers that can reimburse up to 90% on unexpected vet costs, and some pet insurance providers may offer routine care add-ons or "wellness plans." While specific time-sensitive promotions for new clients or particular services are not explicitly detailed in the provided information, interested individuals are highly encouraged to contact the practice directly. By calling (718) 987-7777 or +1 718-987-7777, prospective clients can inquire about any current new patient specials, wellness packages, or introductory offers for specific services, especially those related to their integrative medicine program. Their team can provide personalized information on their holistic therapies, discuss pricing transparency, and explain how their comprehensive approach can benefit your pet's long-term health, ensuring that you receive the best value for their exceptional level of care.

Very insensitive. When I made appointment I had to pay 100 dollars which is understandable to make the appointment. Unfortunately my dog died and wasn't able to make the appointment. Iinquired if I would get a refund of the money that I paid being that the death of my dog was beyond control and unexpected. Someone by the name of Donna said she would check with the doctor and call me back. No one ever returned my call. I called back to follow up and Donna told me the money was unrefundable. You would think as medical professionals they would have compassion and empathy. Sam called me back later in the day and was able to resolve the issue and process a refund.

My dog Kona has truly transformed under the care of Dr. Jerger. The doctor’s attention to detail and personal care are like none other I’ve experienced in the animal world. I will take my dog to this vet forever. I’ll be a lifetime client for sure!

Me and my family are truly devastated and traumatized from trusting these vets who handled my baby daughter cat Luckie, i hope they did blood test before these vets proceeded to doing intensive mouth surgery thus we already told them about my pet’s underlying health condition, we trusted the vets so much, thats why we went to this place with high hopes that they will use all their expertise to provide proper care for my cat. We felt rushed to make final decisions putting my cat to sleep no sympathy, no affect, no heart to say the least to give us 5 or 10 mins for me and my husband to talk about signing consent to euthanise my cat right in front of our very eyes our emotions are crushed my mind was shut i was dying inside as i was rushed to sign a paper, he was already preparing this medication and syringes of the last shots for my cat prior to me signing the paper he handed me. The vets gave us a discount we think something wrong happened along the process we don't know, we are not very sure but maybe they don't want to feel guilty and at least make us feel that they did us a huge favor thats how we feel, tho my cat’s medical bill is still in thousands of dollars and i will knock off my cat’s bills sooner than the payment plan because it hurts to see this bill in thousands of dollars and my cat died sooner than expected . I am venting out in behalf of my family that’s how they made us feel and treated i could actually go on and on based on our observations how they handled my cat’s health situation but i wont go too much in details we felt strongly that somebody messed up and of course they wont admit, now we are missing my cat who we loved so much and we did everything we could but entrusting your pet’s health with providers that can only give us a repetitive answers as to “ I don’t know whats going on with your cat” extremely sad that my cat was the unlucky one that took the bullet. Again we are traumatize to see this place again it will only bring bad us memories and doubts. My family and I are broken in million pieces

leaving this review as a warning. knew someone who worked here for a very long time and worked closely with everyone involved with this practice. this place should be out of business. medicine is not administered with timely fashion, coverage is thin so everyone is all hands on deck with every task even when there is no training. if you care about your pet, do not let them stay here.
