I want to start by saying that I’ve been coming to this vet for years. The staff has always been incredibly kind, knowledgeable, helpful, and I truly appreciate the care they’ve provided. However, over the past few years, my cat has struggled with severe respiratory issues—frequent sneezing fits and mucus discharge. My vet believed it was Feline Herpes, likely due to his history as a rescue who spent time outdoors. Because of this, for years, I was bringing him in every few months for what we thought were flare-ups. I take full responsibility for not pushing for further testing, but I also was never informed that there was an option. Recently, during another flare-up, I decided to take him to a different vet, whom immediately suggested doing an upper respiratory test. The results showed that he has Bordetella (B. bronchiseptica) and tested negative for Feline Herpes. He’s been suffering from this for almost six years, receiving incorrect antibiotics all this time. Also, possibly giving my other pets the same bacteria. This discovery has been heartbreaking, and after over a decade of coming here, I don’t know if I can continue bringing my pets to this office. I’m sharing this not out of anger, but in the hope that it encourages more thorough diagnostic options for other pets in the future.

Dog Cat & Bird Clinic of Nutley Introduce
Welcome to the Dog Cat & Bird Clinic of Nutley, located at 324 Passaic Ave, Nutley, NJ 07110, USA. As a dedicated pet hospital, the Dog Cat & Bird Clinic of Nutley stands out by offering veterinary care for a diverse range of animal companions, including dogs, cats, and birds, and potentially other small or exotic pets. This multi-species approach signifies a commitment to serving a broad spectrum of pet owners in the Nutley, New Jersey area, providing a single point of care for households with varied animal family members. Operating under the platform category of "Pet Hospital," the clinic aims to provide comprehensive medical services and support for the health and well-being of these animals.
Based on customer reviews, the Dog Cat & Bird Clinic of Nutley has historically been known for its kind, knowledgeable, and helpful staff. One long-term client expressed deep appreciation for the care provided over the years, highlighting the positive interactions with the team. This suggests that the clinic strives to create a welcoming and supportive environment for pet owners, where staff members are not only competent but also genuinely care about the animals they treat. Building trust and rapport with clients is crucial in veterinary care, and positive staff interactions contribute significantly to this.
The clinic's name clearly indicates a specialization in the common household pets – dogs and cats – as well as avian companions. This suggests that the veterinarians and staff possess the necessary expertise and equipment to address the specific health needs of these different species. Caring for birds often requires specialized knowledge due to their unique physiology and common ailments, making a clinic that explicitly includes birds in its name a valuable resource for bird owners in the community. It also implies a willingness and capability to handle the diverse health concerns that can arise in these different types of pets.
The services offered at the Dog Cat & Bird Clinic of Nutley likely encompass a wide range of veterinary care to cater to their diverse patient population. These would typically include routine wellness examinations, which are essential for maintaining the health of all pets, regardless of species. Vaccinations, tailored to the specific needs of dogs, cats, and birds, would also be a standard offering to protect against common infectious diseases. Parasite prevention and control, crucial for all types of pets, would likely be another key service provided.
Given that it operates as a pet hospital, the clinic is also expected to offer diagnostic services to identify and treat illnesses and injuries. This could include in-house laboratory testing for blood work, urine analysis, and other diagnostic procedures relevant to dogs, cats, and birds. Imaging services, such as digital radiography (X-rays), might also be available to aid in the diagnosis of various conditions. The ability to perform these diagnostics on-site allows for quicker assessment and initiation of treatment plans.
Surgical services are another important aspect of a pet hospital. The Dog Cat & Bird Clinic of Nutley likely provides a range of surgical procedures, from routine surgeries like spaying and neutering to more complex soft tissue surgeries. The capacity to perform surgeries on different species would necessitate specialized equipment and protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of each animal. Anesthesia monitoring and post-operative care are also critical components of surgical services.
Dental care is vital for the overall health of dogs and cats, and it is reasonable to assume that the clinic offers dental cleanings, examinations, and potentially dental surgery. While dental care for birds differs significantly, the clinic may provide guidance on beak trimming or address other oral health issues specific to avian patients.
One of the customer reviews highlights a significant instance where a cat with a chronic respiratory issue was potentially misdiagnosed over several years. While the client acknowledges personal responsibility for not pushing for further testing, the review also points out a lack of proactive suggestion of more thorough diagnostic options by the clinic. This serves as a cautionary note for potential new clients to actively engage in discussions about all available diagnostic and treatment options for their pets.
Conversely, another review praises both the doctors and staff for their exceptional care, treating pets as if they were their own. This client also mentions receiving after-hours follow-up calls from both doctors, indicating a high level of dedication and concern for their patients' well-being. This positive feedback underscores the potential for compassionate and attentive care at the clinic.
Considering the mixed feedback, it is essential for pet owners to communicate openly with the veterinary team, ask questions, and ensure they are fully informed about the diagnostic and treatment options available for their pets. The clinic's commitment to serving a diverse range of animals suggests a broad expertise, but thorough communication is key to ensuring the best possible outcomes for each individual pet.

Apr 02, 2025 · Nastasha RosadoCan't say enough about these guys both the doctors and the staff take care of my furry kids as if it was their own. I've had both doctors treat my animals and both times they took the time after hours to call me and follow up to put my mind at ease. I highly recommend!
Mar 16, 2025 · Joanne GroshThis place is very clean and nicely updated, but it’s very open without any sound dampening. So, my reactive rescue dog was scared and barking a lot … and it was like echoing throughout the building! Lots of tile and high ceilings are unkind to loud girls! So I had to take her outside and wait. It’s a VERY BUSY office, but it wasn’t a terrible wait. They took us in the side door to bypass the lobby. The room was clean and decent. They had tubs of precut treats like cheese! The vet was very nice and made fast friends with our sweet baby! The vet was thorough, and we discussed all of our baby’s issues, meds, vaccines, etc and came up with a game plan for the next 6 months or so. So I feel very comfortable having our fur babies come to this vet clinic! Aside from the issue with the waiting room, I will note that this vet is very pricey. But you get what you pay for (usually)! I will happily pay more for great care! Highly recommend!
Aug 27, 2024 · Pippa CurranI have 2 senior cats, one of which has respiratory issues. The doctors at DCB Clinic are amazing and truly care for the wellness of my cats. Can't recommend them enough!
Apr 11, 2025 · Brian KaluckiI was referred here by a friend and I’m so happy that she did. I’ve since referred more friends here as well. I couldn’t ask for a more caring, heartfelt staff. The facility is always clean, warm and welcoming. The doctors and staff are so knowledgeable, friendly, and compassionate. They are the perfect example of what a veterinary practice should be. Most importantly, they always made my pets best interest their top priority. Overall, they have been an absolute blessing in my life, as well as my pets life, and I couldn’t ask for a better facility.
