Welcome to Countryside Veterinary Hospital & Kennels

Countryside Veterinary Hospital & Kennels, located at 136 North St, Dryden, NY 13053, USA, offers a dual service approach to pet care, functioning both as a full-service Pet Hospital and providing boarding facilities. The establishment can be reached at (607) 844-9188. This combination of medical care and lodging positions it as a comprehensive solution for pet owners in the Dryden area, catering to both their pets' health needs and temporary accommodation requirements.

Environment and Facilities

As a combined veterinary hospital and kennel, Countryside Veterinary Hospital & Kennels is expected to provide a diverse environment. The hospital section would feature standard veterinary amenities, including reception and waiting areas, multiple examination rooms, a surgical suite, and diagnostic areas for imaging (X-rays, ultrasound) and laboratory work. These facilities are crucial for providing a broad spectrum of medical services, from routine check-ups to complex surgical procedures and emergency interventions.

The kennels segment would comprise secure and comfortable boarding facilities for both dogs and cats. This would typically include individual runs or spacious enclosures for dogs, often with outdoor access, and separate, quiet areas for cats to minimize stress. Attention to cleanliness, ventilation, and temperature control would be paramount in the kennel environment to ensure the well-being and comfort of boarding animals. Given its name "Countryside," the facility might also offer a more rural or spacious setting, potentially allowing for outdoor exercise areas for dogs.

While one customer review praises the "outstanding service" and patient team, suggesting a positive and caring atmosphere, another expresses concern over the perceived prioritization of "money" over "the well being of the animals." This divergence in feedback highlights the importance of individual experiences and perspectives, and suggests that while the intention is to provide excellent care, perceived value and financial transparency can vary for clients.

Services Offered

Countryside Veterinary Hospital & Kennels offers a broad range of services, leveraging its dual functionality:

  • Comprehensive Veterinary Medical Care: This includes routine wellness examinations, vaccinations tailored to the pet's specific needs, parasite prevention (flea, tick, heartworm), and microchipping for identification.
  • Diagnostic Services: The hospital is equipped for in-house laboratory testing (blood work, urinalysis, fecal exams) for rapid results, as well as advanced imaging services such as digital X-rays and potentially ultrasound for detailed internal diagnostics.
  • Surgical Services: A full range of surgical procedures would be offered, from routine spay/neuter operations to soft tissue surgeries (e.g., tumor removal, foreign body extraction) and potentially some orthopedic procedures. Modern anesthesia protocols and patient monitoring are standard.
  • Dental Care: Professional dental cleanings, extractions, and oral health assessments are typically provided to address and prevent periodontal disease, which significantly impacts overall pet health.
  • Emergency and Urgent Care: The review mentioning "any emergency needs" indicates that the hospital provides emergency veterinary services during its operational hours. For after-hours emergencies, they might refer to specialized emergency veterinary clinics.
  • Pet Boarding: This is a significant service, offering a safe and supervised environment for pets when their owners are away. Kennels typically provide food, water, exercise, and administering of medications if required.
  • Grooming and Bathing: Some facilities offer basic grooming services, such as baths and nail trims, often alongside boarding or as standalone appointments.
  • Nutritional and Behavioral Counseling: Advice on appropriate diets for various life stages and health conditions, as well as guidance on managing common behavioral issues.
Features and Approach

The features of Countryside Veterinary Hospital & Kennels, based on the provided information, include:

  • Integrated Care: The combination of veterinary medical services and boarding facilities offers a unique convenience for pet owners, allowing for seamless transitions between medical appointments and lodging needs. This can be particularly beneficial for pets requiring medication or special attention while boarding.
  • Knowledgeable and Patient Staff: One consistent positive theme in the reviews is the quality of the staff. Clients praise the team for being "exceptionally patient with all my questions" and "knowledgeable," suggesting a strong commitment to client education and supportive interaction. This is critical for building trust and ensuring pet owners feel well-informed about their pet's health.
  • Prioritization of Pet Health and Well-being: A customer explicitly states that the team "genuinely prioritize the health and well-being of my two dogs." This indicates a patient-first approach in their medical care, focusing on preventative measures and effective treatment plans.
  • Handling of Emergency Needs: The ability to address "any emergency needs" during operating hours is a significant feature, providing peace of mind for local pet owners.
  • Perceived Affordability (Mixed Reviews): One review highlights "affordable rates," which suggests that for some clients, the pricing aligns well with the quality of service received. However, the conflicting review regarding "money is more important than the well being of the animals" underscores that perceptions of cost and value can be subjective and depend on individual experiences and expectations regarding care options and communication about finances. This suggests that while affordability is a goal, clear communication about treatment costs and alternatives is vital to manage client expectations.

From my perspective the money is more important than the well being of the animals brought there. Consistent examples of only caring about money and not the animal has been very clear. I would recommend not taking your animals here

I am not enthused with this vet, I had called in with one of my cats stringing to urinate which with male cats if they're urethra is blocked can kill them quickly. They were not able to see him until 4 to 5 days out, I ended up finding another vet who keeps a few afternoon slots open for emergencies. Good news is my boy Fenrir was ok, but had I not gotten him to his now new vet he likely would have died. When I made the decision to switch to the Southern veterinarian for good and I called in for their medical records, I had to make multiple requests until they finally sent them and the records in question were scanned poorly and difficult to read. They are completely okay for routine stuff; vaccinations, spay & neuter etc but don't give emergency care well.

As someone who worked here for over a year I don't recommend taking your pets here. When I started bringing up concerns about the well being of the dogs boarding there I was fired the next day. In my opinion they care about money not the animals. So many other great vets in the area, don't waste your time or money here.

Took our cat here for a quick nail trim before the holidays. Was not told when making the appointment that they wouldn't trim nails without proof of a rabies shot. Didn't have that paperwork with me, of course. They had this whole big form to fill out, which included asking for a driver's license number. Why? And don't I have the right to refuse to give out such information to a local veterinary clinic? The vet said, no, I don't, snatched the clipboard out of my hand, and in no uncertain terms told me to leave. DO NOT EVER GO TO THIS OFFICE. Based on the other 1-star reviews I've read of this place, this woman should be stripped of her license to work with animals!!!
