Let’s keep this one overnight. Issue 1. They tried to keep our dog overnight to charge more fees. My daughter called to check on the status of her dog after a routine neuter surgery and was told everything went well but they needed to keep him overnight for observation and keeping him overnight would incur additional fees. Having several dogs over the years, an overnight stay without complications is atypical. My wife calls and asks how the procedure went to which the receptionist reported everything went well, the dog was awake, walking around, and had used the bathroom. My wife said great, we’re on the way to pick him up. The receptionist then stated that they need to keep him overnight for observation. My wife asked what for if everything went well, he was awake, and had used the bathroom? The receptionist (Amy), now with significant disdain, stated it was routine to keep dogs overnight after neuter surgery. After multiple iterations of this back and forth, my wife disagreed and restated that we were on the way to pick him up. The receptionist then handed the phone to another receptionist who was pleasant and said they will have him ready for pickup when we got there. Issue 2. The pain/calming medicine was grossly inappropriate. They gave us 4x Rimadyl chewable for an 80lb Melenwa that did nothing. That evening the dog was running around despite our best efforts. We called the vet and asked what to do and they said hold him down and hung up on us. The next morning, all of the dog’s stitches had come out and the incision site was completely open. We took him to a local vet and they had to restitch the entire site. The staff noted the pain/calming medicine that Dr. Cooley prescribed was grossly inadequate for our dog. They prescribed us 30x Trazodone 100mg, 20x Gabapentin 300mg, and an antibiotic since the wound was completely opened. They commented that it is important for the dog to be sedentary for several days for the wound to heal. Dr. Cooley should have prescribed significantly more/stronger sedatives for our dog than what he did. One could argue that’s why our dog was so active and the wound opened back up. Overall Impression: The statement to keep him overnight felt as if they were looking for a few extra bucks and/or it was late in the day and they wanted to close up shop. The inappropriate and lack of pain/calming medicine suggests the Doctor and/or staff were incompetent, didn’t understand the breed of dog, or simply didn’t care. Either way, we do not recommend Cooley Veterinary Hospital.

Took my dog Charlie to them and thought I would have to either put him down or get a walker(that I couldn't afford) But their people were able to tell me what was wrong with my dog and treat him well. They were a huge help to my ❤️ and my dog. Thank you so much and Charlie thanks u as well.
