Welcome to Companion Veterinary Care Center: Michael A. Lockhart, DVM
Welcome to Companion Veterinary Care Center, led by Dr. Michael A. Lockhart, DVM, located at 2020 S Irby St, Florence, SC 29505, USA. As a Pet Hospital, our mission is to provide veterinary care services to the local community. You can contact us at (843) 676-0077 or via mobile at +1 843-676-0077 for inquiries or to schedule appointments.
Based on customer feedback, Companion Veterinary Care Center is described by some as a place where staff genuinely care for pets and ensure their needs are met. One reviewer highlighted the friendliness and knowledge of the staff, particularly mentioning the front desk personnel as being "super sweet." This positive experience suggests a welcoming and supportive environment where pet owners feel valued and their concerns are taken seriously. The reviewer also expressed satisfaction with the level of care, stating that they were glad to have found this clinic after a less satisfactory experience with another local veterinary service.
However, it is crucial to acknowledge a significantly contrasting negative review that raises serious concerns about the care provided at Companion Veterinary Care Center. This detailed account describes a distressing experience involving a poodle who presented with severe symptoms of not eating or drinking for five days. The reviewer recounts the costs associated with initial blood work and medication prescribed by Dr. Lockhart. Subsequently, the pet was left overnight for a urine sample collection but reportedly did not urinate. The following day, the recommendation was euthanasia.
The negative review further alleges that the pet was in worse condition upon being picked up, with a broken paw, a "nasty substance" on her bottom, and that these issues were concealed by a pee pad in her carrier. The reviewer claims that when these concerns were raised with the clinic the following Monday, a nurse denied the issues, suggesting they occurred during the ride home. This account paints a picture of potentially inadequate care, misdiagnosis, and a lack of accountability.
The same reviewer also mentions boarding services at the clinic, detailing two instances where their poodle was boarded due to family emergencies. They specifically recall being informed that the air conditioning in the boarding area was out during one of these stays but would be repaired by the time of drop-off. This information suggests that boarding services are offered at Companion Veterinary Care Center, but this particular experience raises questions about the conditions of the boarding facilities at the time.
Ultimately, the poodle in the negative review was euthanized and cremated at a different pet hospital on Irby Street, which the reviewer highly recommends. This tragic outcome and the serious allegations made in the review warrant careful consideration. While one review praises the caring and knowledgeable staff, the other presents a starkly different picture of potential neglect and mishandling of a critical medical situation.
Given the conflicting nature of these reviews, it is challenging to provide a definitive assessment of the environment, services, and features of Companion Veterinary Care Center. The positive review suggests a caring and friendly atmosphere with a focus on meeting pet needs, while the negative review describes a situation that raises significant concerns about the quality of medical care, communication, and accountability. Potential services offered appear to include general veterinary care (as indicated by blood work and medication), and possibly boarding services.
There is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Individuals considering Companion Veterinary Care Center are strongly advised to weigh the positive feedback regarding staff friendliness against the serious allegations of inadequate care presented in the negative review. It would be prudent to conduct further research, seek additional reviews from other pet owners, and potentially visit the clinic to assess the environment and discuss their pet's specific needs and concerns with Dr. Lockhart and the staff directly.
In conclusion, Companion Veterinary Care Center, led by Dr. Michael A. Lockhart, DVM, in Florence, SC, has received both positive feedback regarding the caring and knowledgeable staff and a very concerning negative review detailing allegations of inadequate medical care and neglect. Services appear to include general veterinary care and possibly boarding. Prospective clients should carefully consider this information and conduct thorough due diligence before entrusting their pets to this clinic. Contacting the clinic directly at (843) 676-0077 for more information and to address any concerns is highly recommended.

Jun 13, 2019 · Liz FThis Is Not A Pet Hospital. I Took My Poodle There Dr. Lockhart Is Her Veterinarian She Hadn’t Eaten Or Dranked Anything In 5 Days. He Needed Blood Work & Cost Of The Visit When I Had Already Told Him She Hadn’t Eaten It Costed Me $194. The Labs Came In The Next Morning White Blood cells, Kidney Levels & Liver Levels Elevated He Gave Me Medication Which Costed Me $94 The Next Day He Wanted Me To Bring Her In So Get A Using Sample Which They Wanted Me To Catch At Home With A Plastic Container I Left Her There Over Night She Hadn’t Used The Bathroom & Said She Needed To Be Euthanized. She Had A Broken Paw, Nasty Substance On Her Bottom & Was In Worst Condition. They Had A Pee Pad In Her So I Couldn’t See Until I Bought Her Home Their Attendant Put Her In My Car. When I Called Them Back In Monday Morning Because It Was 12:00 On Saturday When I Picked Her Up. The Nurse Denied The Issues & Said She Must Have Gotten That Way On The Ride Home. Please Don’t Take Your Pet Their For Any Serious Issues… She Had Just Gotten Her Shots In March Because She Was Being Boarded Due To A Love One Passed In Our Family. She Was Boarded Again In June Due To Another Love One Passing. The Operator Told Me Their Air Conditioning In The Boarding Area Was Out But Would Be Repaired By The Time I Brought Her Their!!! My Baby Was Euthanized & I Had Her Cremated By A Pet Hospital On Irby Street… They Are The Best!!! Sleep Peacefully Tasha Scott 8/6/2022 Love You Baby Mommy
