We've been taking our cats here their whole lives, and they've always received excellent care. Dr. Tucker usually runs our appointments, and she's very nice and professional and doesn't dance around issues our cats may have, which I really value. I also have to pop in here pretty regularly to get medicine for my cats, and the front desk staff is always nice and helpful. There's usually a clinic cat hanging out in the waiting room that you can pat and visit, so that's a nice bonus!

Companion Animal Hospital Introduce
Companion Animal Hospital, located at 660 S Gammon Rd in Madison, Wisconsin, operates as a pet hospital providing veterinary care for local animal owners. The clinic can be reached at (608) 277-8888 or +1 608-277-8888. Based on publicly available online reviews, experiences with Companion Animal Hospital appear to be varied, with some customers expressing satisfaction and others detailing significant negative experiences.
One reviewer shares a positive experience, stating they have entrusted their cats' care to Companion Animal Hospital throughout their lives and consistently received excellent service. This customer specifically praises Dr. Tucker for her professionalism, clear communication regarding their cats' health issues, and pleasant demeanor. They also note the helpfulness of the front desk staff when picking up medication. A unique and appreciated feature mentioned is the presence of a clinic cat in the waiting room, providing a comforting interaction for pet owners.
However, another reviewer recounts a deeply negative experience, stating they would "NEVER WILL FORGET THIS TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE" and do not recommend the veterinary practice at all. This review alleges that an unspecified action by the hospital caused damage to their dog that lasted over two years. While the specifics of the initial issue are vague, the strong negative sentiment and the duration of the alleged impact are significant.
A third reviewer provides a detailed account of a negative incident during a visit in March 2022. According to this review, their dog was taken in for a shot, and a patch of matted hair on the dog's right hip was shaved without prior consultation. The reviewer expressed upset over this lack of communication and requested compensation. They claim the hospital showed no concern or compassion, did not admit liability, and displayed unprofessional behavior, allegedly asking the reviewer to leave. This individual also filed a complaint with the state and reports that after ten months, the shaved hair had not fully recovered, attributing this to potential damage to the hair follicles from the injection site. This reviewer explicitly states they do not recommend Companion Animal Hospital and were considering legal action and media attention.
In a subsequent comment responding to Companion Animal Hospital's apparent response to their initial review, the same individual expresses dissatisfaction with the state board's handling of their complaint, alleging bias towards tax-paying businesses. They also mention having been a customer for over a year with positive experiences initially but describe the alleged shaving incident as a "major screw up" that was mishandled by the clinic, leading to them being labeled a "bad fit." This indicates a breakdown in the client-veterinarian relationship following the reported incident.
Given these contrasting reviews, it is challenging to provide a definitive picture of the environment and overall service quality at Companion Animal Hospital. The positive review suggests a well-run clinic with caring and professional staff, at least in some instances. The mention of a clinic cat implies a potentially more relaxed and comforting waiting area for some pet owners.
The services offered at Companion Animal Hospital likely include a range of standard veterinary care, such as:
- Routine wellness examinations and vaccinations (as implied by the "shot" mentioned in one review).
- Diagnosis and treatment of illnesses.
- Prescription medication dispensing (as indicated by the customer regularly picking up medicine).
- Surgical procedures (while not explicitly detailed, most pet hospitals offer some level of surgical services).
- Dental care (often a standard offering in pet hospitals, though not directly mentioned).
- Potentially, specialized care depending on the expertise of the veterinarians on staff.
The features of Companion Animal Hospital, based on the mixed reviews, present a complex picture. On the positive side, the consistent professionalism and clear communication of at least one veterinarian (Dr. Tucker) are highlighted, along with the helpfulness of the front desk staff and the welcoming presence of a clinic cat. These aspects suggest a clinic that values patient care and client service, at least in some interactions.
However, the negative reviews raise significant concerns about communication, accountability, and the handling of perceived errors. The allegations of unprofessional behavior, lack of compassion, and potential long-term harm to a pet are serious and should be considered by potential clients. The disagreement regarding the shaved hair and the subsequent handling of the complaint indicate potential issues in their customer service and conflict resolution processes.
Currently, there is no promotional information available in the provided text. There are no mentions of discounts for new clients, special offers on services, or any other marketing initiatives. Therefore, it is not possible to comment on any promotional aspects of Companion Animal Hospital based solely on this information.
In conclusion, Companion Animal Hospital in Madison, WI, appears to be a veterinary practice with a mix of customer experiences. While some pet owners have reported excellent care, professional staff, and a welcoming environment, others have detailed deeply concerning negative incidents involving perceived errors in treatment, lack of communication, and unsatisfactory customer service. Local users considering Companion Animal Hospital should weigh these contrasting experiences and potentially seek further information or clarification before making a decision regarding their pet's care. The positive aspects mentioned by one reviewer, such as Dr. Tucker's professionalism and the helpful front desk, should be balanced against the serious allegations and negative experiences described by others. Without further information or a broader range of reviews, it is difficult to provide a fully comprehensive and unequivocally positive or negative assessment.

Feb 28, 2025 · Mary HanI NEVER WILL FORGET THIS TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE I Had With This Veterinary , I Do Not Recommend Them At All. The damage lasted over two years what they did to my dog. Over 5,000 views on Google. I took my Dog in for a shot back in March 2022. Right hip hair was matted. Without consulting with me first that was pointed out in a email later, she went ahead and shaved the hair down tight to the skin size of a quarter. I was upset about this and requested some compensation for there treatment. They showed no concern or compassion. They failed to openly admit they were liable and could careless. Here Bad Attitude only showed she was so unprofessional and she asked me to leave. I did file a complaint with the state. The hair shaved area has not fully recovered now after 10 months. I been told now, because of the shot injection , the Hair Follicles were Damaged. I am now considering a law suite against them. I do not recommend them to other clients. I’m also considering having the local television station do a report on it. SEE MY PHOTOS ON THE BOTTOM. AFTER TEN MONTHS THE HAIR HAS NOT GROWN BACK. THIS IS WHAT THEY DID TO MY DOG. I now have a New Veterinary and very satisfied with there service. (My comment on Companions comments) below. The State board obviously overlooked my complaint since they will always favor a business that pays state taxes. I have been going there for over a year and all was fine, a good fit. But now, they did a major screw up and they know it. When I called them out on it they manipulated there way out and now referred to me as a bad fit. "So Ridicules". Let the judge decide when we go to court.
Feb 17, 2025 · Russ LonielloI've been going to them with all my cats since I moved to Madison. The staff have all been phenomenal and you can tell they love animals. They were very patient when my first cat needed surgery and I had a million questions and worries and have been so fantastic. I continue to go to them despite having moved to the East side. Thanks for all you do or did for Montezuma, Mochaccino, and Samuel!
Mar 11, 2024 · Mara RynesThis is a great veterinary clinic! Dr. Pagel is an expert on cats, both large and small. He is very thorough and I can tell that he and his staff care deeply about the overall physical, social, and emotional well-being of cats. I don't have a dog, but I imagine that they provide the same level of high quality care to any animal. I trust this clinic completely and have gone to them with my first cat, Olivia, and now my two male cats who are brothers. Also, I really like the fact that they take in stray cats or cats that need homes and rehome them. That's one reason I chose them. I know Dr. Pagel takes care of special needs' cats privately. These people are truly compassionate veterinarians and vet technicians. I give them the highest recommendation!
Mar 25, 2025 · Laura KarlOffice and exam rooms were clean, desk staff were friendly, tech and vet both were incredibly caring and gentle with a scared cat, and entire atmosphere was welcoming and as calming as possible. Most vets seem to cater primarily to dogs, and don't speak Cat very well - everyone I interacted with very clearly spoke Cat fluently, and it made the experience much less stressful than usual. Pricier than other vets, but I'll absolutely be going back.
