Monday I brought my magic in as an emergency due to signs of distress from his normal behavior. Dr. Pelesz saw us and I’m thankful she did. She asked questions, what had happened, what I was seeing and provided solutions to what she was seeing. After blood work and opting for the ultrasound we got the answers that we unfortunately were not looking for. But Dr. Pelesz was compassionate; relatable even on a personal level and laid out all the options which could or could not work. She never gave false expectations and kept it realistic which I needed and I applaud her for that. She was there with me every step of the way ultimately to me putting magic down to take away his pain. Thank you for everything. Here’s my magic and the great 12 years of life he had.

Community Animal Care is categorized as a "Pet Hospital," which signifies its capacity to provide a full spectrum of medical and surgical services for companion animals. The hospital emphasizes its commitment to delivering "the highest standard of veterinary services" and believes that pets deserve exceptional care in return for the love, laughter, and friendship they provide. As a privately-owned, local animal hospital, they strive to ensure every furry friend receives "thorough, thoughtful care," aiming to go "above and beyond" in the veterinary field. Established in 1961 by Dr. Kessinger and Dr. Sanford, the practice has a long-standing legacy of serving generations of community pets, now continued by veterinarians like Dr. Melissa Pelesz.

The environment at Community Animal Care is consistently described as professional, friendly, and welcoming. Clients report that the rooms are clean upon entry, and staff efficiently clean up after visits. The overall atmosphere is geared towards making pet owners feel "more prepared and confident" after their visits. The staff, including veterinarians and technicians, are highlighted for their kindness, professionalism, and genuine care for animals. This focus on a positive and supportive environment is particularly crucial during stressful situations, such as emergency visits or end-of-life care. The team's dedication to making clients and their pets feel like a part of their "caring community of animal lovers" underscores their commitment to a warm and empathetic setting, prioritizing client comfort and peace of mind.

The services offered at Community Animal Care are comprehensive, covering a wide range of veterinary needs for cats and dogs throughout their lives. These services include:

  • Wellness Exams: Emphasizing preventive care, regular wellness visits are considered critical. They include vaccinations, routine deworming, and heartworm prevention, with frequency recommendations tailored to the pet's health, lifestyle, age, and breed.

  • Illness Exams: When a pet shows signs of illness, veterinarians review medical history, conduct thorough exams, and determine the appropriate treatment path.

  • Emergency Pet Care: For urgent situations, the clinic aims to provide effective and expedient care to pets in need of immediate veterinary assistance.

  • Pet Surgery: When surgery is recommended as part of a treatment plan, the hospital provides procedures with caring, expert hands, understanding the natural anxiety pet parents may feel.

  • Pet Dentistry: Recognizing the importance of oral health, they offer dental services to address issues like bad breath, abnormal chewing, bleeding or swelling in the mouth, and discolored teeth.

  • Hospitalization: Following surgery or illness exams, overnight hospitalization may be recommended to monitor a pet's condition and ensure they are on the road to recovery.

  • End of Life Care: Providing compassionate support during the difficult time of losing a pet, ensuring owners are informed and comforted while administering quality, empathetic end-of-life care.

A key feature of Community Animal Care, frequently highlighted by client testimonials, is the profound compassion and relatability of its veterinary team, particularly Dr. Pelesz. One moving review describes her empathetic approach during a difficult emergency situation, where she "asked questions, what had happened, what I was seeing and provided solutions," and "never gave false expectations and kept it realistic which I needed." The client's gratitude for Dr. Pelesz being "there with me every step of the way ultimately to me putting magic down to take away his pain" profoundly illustrates the depth of care and support offered during the most challenging moments of pet ownership. This personal connection and realistic communication are invaluable to clients. Furthermore, the staff are consistently described as "very friendly, professional, thorough and knowledgeable," and the clinic's commitment to continuous communication and follow-up (e.g., being "accessible and patient in answering questions as well as following up with me directly" after surgery) is highly appreciated. This dedication to transparent communication and active client involvement in treatment decisions distinguishes their approach.

In terms of promotional information, Community Animal Care emphasizes its mission to provide top-notch, full-service veterinary care while keeping pet owners informed. They promote their long-standing presence in the community since 1961, building trust through generations of service. For instance, there's often a "New Client Special Offer" that includes a discount, such as $40 off a first exam, to welcome new pet parents. Other seasonal promotions may include discounts on dental cleanings (e.g., 10% off during Dental Health Awareness Months, with free tooth brushing and a goody bag), discounted heartworm testing and prevention, specials on feline wellness exams and vaccinations, or offers for fecal testing and microchipping. They also run senior health awareness promotions with packages tailored for older pets. These ongoing promotions are often advertised on their social media (e.g., Facebook) and aim to make essential pet healthcare more accessible and affordable for the community. The clinic also partners with Vets First Choice for an online pharmacy, promoting convenience for medication and food purchases. Their website and direct phone lines (845) 471-7459 or +1 845-471-7459 are key channels for clients to learn more and engage with their services.

We brought our rescue pitt here. Staff were very friendly, professional, thorough and knowledgeable. The room was clean upon entry and I noticed they cleaned up shortly after we left. We also left feeling more prepared and confident. Highly recommend.

All of the doctors there are awesome, caring and knowledgeable. Dr Rosi has been great with my dogs . I love she follows up, takes her time and explain and just all around nice person. When she couldn’t find an answer, she referred us to a specialist. I admire her for always put her fur patients first.

I had to bring my dog here for an emergency visit which unfortunately ended in making the very hard choice of putting my baby down but the staff and the vet that I saw were so so nice and comforting. They weren’t judgmental they didn’t try and get us for tons of money to run tests they truly just cared about my babies well being and that’s all… I would highly recommend this place to anyone with a pet (not only for emergency visits but for anything) I wish I could remember then name of the vet that we saw but so much was going through my head so I forgot her name but I just would like to thank her and her assistant for being so so kind during this very hard time 🩷 below is a picture of my beautiful baby Maci that crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday thank you again to everyone here for making this horrible time as comfortable as possible

My Aunt had me bring her dog to them. Never in my life have I seen people so compassionate and patient. My Aunts dog was very scared and Dr. Redden and Jeremy took their time to make him feel comfortable. They knew that he needed kindness and not a strong hand. From now on Toby will be only going to see the fantastic team at Community. The staff as a whole is very welcoming and kind .
