They said they haven’t taken new clients in the last 5 years. It should definitely be posted on their site so people know. Mind blowing and disappointing that there is a vet clinic in such a small town that doesn’t allow new clients.

While this might be disappointing for those seeking new veterinary care, it is a reflection of their established client base and potentially a dedication to providing thorough care to their existing patients. Despite this, the clinic continues to be a highly respected entity within the local community, praised for its knowledgeable staff and reasonable pricing by long-term clients.
Columbiana Veterinary Associates, Inc. boasts a history spanning over five decades, having moved to its current, presumably more suitable, location at 41233 Metz Rd after ten years at its initial site. The internal environment is supported by a significant and experienced team. The clinic employs seven veterinarians, four registered veterinary technicians, and over fifteen support staff members. The atmosphere is consistently described by existing clients as kind and professional, reflecting the dedication of the entire team to creating a supportive and effective space for animal healing and wellness. The clinic's commitment to client education also suggests an environment conducive to open communication and learning, fostering a collaborative approach to pet health.
Columbiana Veterinary Associates offers an extensive range of veterinary services, demonstrating their capability as a full-fledged Pet Hospital. Their mission emphasizes providing "the highest quality medical care to our patients and education to our clients in an efficient and caring manner." The services provided cater to both companion animals (dogs and cats) and a variety of exotic animals, with specialized care for each. Key services include:

They prioritize patient safety by using the safest anesthetic drugs available, including those used in human medicine, and meticulously monitor patients during surgery and recovery. They also offer laser surgery, a modern technique with benefits for certain procedures.
- Dental Care: As part of their comprehensive offerings, they provide dental services to maintain the oral health of pets, which is crucial for overall well-being.
- Emergency Services: For established clients, the clinic provides limited after-hours emergency services for small animals and 24/7 emergency services for large animals, highlighting their commitment to critical care for their existing patient base.

Dr. Ralph Urmson's planned retirement in June 2025 after 57 years further underscores this legacy.

While the clinic's policy of not accepting new clients for the past five years is a significant piece of information that potential users should be aware of, the positive feedback from existing clients serves as the primary "promotional" material. The heartfelt "I love all the people at Columbiana Veterinary Associates" encapsulates the strong loyalty and satisfaction of their current clientele. This enduring trust is built on the foundation of consistent "kind and knowledgeable" service and "reasonable pricing."
The clinic's strong emphasis on preventative care and client education, facilitated by tools like their smartphone app and online health articles, demonstrates a proactive approach to pet well-being. Their recent recognition with the Better Business Bureau's 2025 Torch Award for Marketplace Trust further solidifies their reputation for ethical business practices and integrity, a powerful endorsement in itself. This award, given to businesses exemplifying trust and ethics, underscores their commitment to their clients and the community. Even without actively seeking new clients, the quality of care provided by Columbiana Veterinary Associates, under the leadership of Dr. Urmson and his team, continues to speak for itself, solidifying their status as a deeply valued Pet Hospital for those they serve.

Jan 23, 2025 · Courtney PhillipsI love all the people at Columbiana Veterinary Associates. They're kind and knowledgeable, with reasonable pricing. I especially trust their long time experience with cats.
Nov 02, 2024 · Linda MolnarCalled them because my English Springer Spaniel became aggressive over the last several days, culminating with him bighting my wife and injuring her so severely that she had to rush to the emergency room. The woman that answered the phone told me the dog needed to be quarantined. I asked her exactly what that entailed and she said let me put you on hold. When she came back on the line she said "I have some questions", "First are you a client here?" I said no I'm not currently a client there. She then said "We are not taking new clients at this time, thank you, bye". Didn't even take 10 seconds to explain what is expected during a quarantine. If you ARE a client here, this is the type of attitude that they have towards members of the community and the animals that live in it.
Jun 17, 2023 · Rob AtkinsonEveryone there is great. They treated my dogs with gentleness. They dont push the meds like most vets. The techs are friendly and great with my dogs. The vets are so informative with whatever problem we have. I highly recommend Columbiana Veterinarian.
