Welcome to Claws & Paws Animal Care

Welcome to the introduction of Claws & Paws Animal Care, a veterinary care platform categorized as a Pet Hospital, located at 4313 Anderson Hwy, Powhatan, VA 23139, USA. Serving the local community and their cherished pets, Claws & Paws Animal Care offers a range of services and potentially related goods to ensure the health and well-being of your furry, scaly, or feathered family members. You can reach them at (804) 598-8030 or their mobile number +1 804-598-8030.

Based on available information, including direct descriptions and customer reviews, we aim to provide an objective overview of what you can expect from Claws & Paws Animal Care. As a local user seeking reliable veterinary services, understanding the environment, services offered, key features, and any relevant promotional aspects is crucial in making an informed decision about your pet's healthcare.

While specific details about the clinic's environment are not explicitly provided in the given information, it's reasonable to infer that as a professional Pet Hospital, Claws & Paws Animal Care strives to maintain a clean, comfortable, and safe environment for both pets and their owners. A well-maintained clinic typically includes examination rooms, treatment areas, and potentially surgical suites, all equipped to provide necessary medical care. The comfort of waiting areas and the overall ambiance contribute significantly to the experience of visiting a veterinary hospital.

The services offered at Claws & Paws Animal Care are likely to be comprehensive, covering a wide spectrum of veterinary needs. These typically include routine check-ups and wellness examinations, vaccinations, parasite prevention (such as flea, tick, and heartworm prevention), dental care, diagnostic services (including laboratory tests, X-rays, and potentially ultrasound), and treatment for illnesses and injuries. Depending on their facilities and expertise, they may also offer surgical services, ranging from routine procedures like spaying and neutering to more complex surgeries. Additionally, some pet hospitals provide specialized services such as dermatology, cardiology, or ophthalmology referrals or on-site consultations.

One customer review highlights the passion of one of the veterinarians, Dr. Kim, for animals, suggesting a caring and dedicated approach to veterinary medicine. The review also mentions that the staff, particularly the vet techs, are friendly and helpful, which can contribute positively to the overall experience for both pet owners and their animals. A supportive and compassionate team is a significant feature of any reputable veterinary practice.

However, the same review also raises some concerns regarding the clinic's pricing structure. The customer mentions a $25 fee just to schedule an appointment and a further $55 for a mandatory examination, resulting in an initial cost of $75 simply to have their pet seen by the doctor. This user expressed dissatisfaction with being charged an examination fee for what they perceived as a brief visual check of their dog's ears, especially since they believed they knew the issue (a recurring ear infection) and expected a more direct treatment approach based on past experience. This point underscores the importance for pet owners to understand the clinic's consultation and examination fee policies upfront.

The review also notes that while the vet techs were friendly and helpful, the front receptionists could improve their friendliness and helpfulness. Efficient and courteous front desk staff play a crucial role in managing appointments, handling inquiries, and creating a positive first and last impression of the clinic.

Despite the concerns raised, the customer indicated a willingness to return only if Claws & Paws Animal Care was the sole provider of a specific treatment their pet required, emphasizing that it is not their regular veterinary clinic. This suggests that while the quality of specific treatments might be a perceived strength, other aspects like cost transparency and customer service at the reception could be areas for improvement.

Based on this information, potential features of Claws & Paws Animal Care could include:

  • Passionate and knowledgeable veterinarians, as indicated by the positive feedback regarding Dr. Kim.
  • Friendly and helpful veterinary technicians who provide good support during the pet's visit.
  • Availability of specific treatments that may not be widely offered elsewhere in the area.
  • A physical location in Powhatan, Virginia, providing accessible veterinary care for local residents.

However, it is also important for prospective clients to be aware of potential considerations:

  • Relatively high initial consultation costs, including a scheduling fee and a mandatory examination fee.
  • Potential for unexpected examination fees even for seemingly straightforward issues or repeat conditions.
  • Possible inconsistencies in the level of customer service provided by different staff members, particularly at the front reception.

Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided text. Typically, pet hospitals might offer introductory discounts for new clients, seasonal promotions on specific services (like dental cleaning during February for Pet Dental Health Month), or package deals for routine care such as vaccinations and wellness exams. It would be advisable to contact Claws & Paws Animal Care directly to inquire about any current promotions or special offers they might have for new or existing clients.

In conclusion, Claws & Paws Animal Care in Powhatan, Virginia, appears to be a Pet Hospital providing veterinary services with at least one passionate veterinarian and helpful vet technicians. However, potential clients should be aware of their fee structure for appointments and mandatory examinations, as highlighted in a customer review. While they may offer specific treatments that are valuable to some pet owners, it is recommended to discuss all costs and procedures upfront to ensure transparency and avoid unexpected expenses. For local users seeking veterinary care, considering these aspects alongside the potential benefits of their services and the reported positive interactions with some of their staff will be important in making an informed decision.

CONS: GREED - it cost $25 just to schedule an appointment. Then, it cost $55 for a REQUIRED examination - and then it cost whatever other procedures or medications are needed. It’s crazy that just to be SEEN by the doctor is cost $75! Today, my dog had an ear infection (I told them that was all she had - we’ve been here before for this specific treatment and only needed the same treatment and thats it). I was then informed “the exam was required”. When I asked what the exam included, the manager (who was “sent” to talk to me) said “to look into her ears”. So, it cost me $75 for the vet to lift my dogs ears and look at them! THATS ALL SHE DID! Of course, a swab was done and gave the vet the “actual” answer needed - so I have no issue with paying for the swab because it provided actual answers. I’ll also add that the front receptionists could definitely be more friendly and helpful. PROS: The vet techs have been friendly and helpful — 100% WOULD NOT go here if they weren’t the only vet that had this specific treatment, they are not my regular vet.

We're new to this bet but the entire staff has been wonderful and really seem to be animal lovers. Thankful that we switched from the other vet.

I don't know what I would do if I didn't have these amazing people in my life! About 8 years ago or so, we were going to a different vet. A cat that we had broke her leg. This was on a Monday. I called our vet at the time and they didn't have anything open until Thursday as a walk in! I had a friend of mine tell me about Claws and Paws. I called them and they asked me how soon could I get her there? Right there, they won me and my business! It was the BEST decision I could have made! We were fortunate to have known Dr. Fore who was a great man and is deeply missed! We also have been fortunate to know Dr. Morgan who is an amazing soul! She is sweet and genuinely cares about the animals and the owners too! All the staff there from Mike to Michelle to Karen to all the assistants, they are all AMAZING people there! They have always made us and our pets feel like we are their number one priority! I would highly recommend Claws and Paws to anyone! And I have!
