Chittenden Veterinary Clinic has taken wonderful care for my cat over the years. All of the staff are kind, respectful, and knowledgeable. In my experience, it can be hard to find a veterinary clinic that is down to earth and really gets to know your pet and the client themselves; Chittenden Vet Clinic excels at these things. I’m happy that I get to support a local small business as well.

I took my dog here regularly and absolutely loved Dr. Cunningham and the vet techs! However, there was one dr who was doing his shots for him. My dog was two, and based on his chart this vet shared that in her experience, dogs similar to mine get put down for behavioral euthanasia. I started crying because my dog was only two and while he was anxious and scared he was not aggressive in anyway. She explained how as they get older it can lead to that. I was absolutely distraught that she decided to give this advice, especially because she was not our regular vet and didn’t know my dog, and generalized him based on his chart. I had also been working with a trainer for my dogs reactivity and using medication to manage his anxiety. I have been deciding to do this review for two years. I tried ignoring it, considering she didn’t actually know my dog but honestly, it was so unprofessional and planted to a seed that has caused so much anxiety about my dog’s future. It was extremely unnecessary, and overall unprofessional. Please note my experience with every other doctor and vet tech was incredible. I wish I knew her name, but I honestly can’t even remember because again she was just supposed to give him his shots and leave. This has stuck with me which is why I’m leaving this review. Please see Dr, Cunningham as she was extremely caring EDIT: as I can’t directly reply to the owner. I appreciate the apology, but I want to clarify that the issue was not about scheduling—it was about the inappropriate and unsolicited “warning” from a third-party vet. She was just supposed to give him his vaccines, not inform me dogs like him get put down for behavioral euthanasia. Rather than placing the responsibility on clients to call ahead, the clinic should ensure that any temporary or third-party veterinarians uphold the same standards of care and professionalism as their permanent staff.

Predatory, illegal business practices. Before scheduling an appointment to have my cat neutered I asked the scheduler what the total cost would be. I was told an $80 exam was required before scheduling the $130 surgery. I asked to make sure there were no other costs. She told me the only other cost would be for medication. Satisfied, I scheduled the exam and prepaid the $80 exam fee as required for new clients. Then on the day of my appointment in the exam room Dr. Cunningham and a staff member handed me a sheet of paper with an itemized list of procedures they recommended for my cat before being neutered totaling $256. There was a test, a vaccine, and one other item. I explained that I couldn't afford that right then. Dr. Cunningham told me that's fine we can do the exam today, you can take this home with you, and once you get them done we can schedule the surgery. I told her that I specifically asked before scheduling the appointment what the total cost would be. She defended herself, "You didn't talk to either of us on the phone. All of our prices are on our website." She told me if I wanted to leave right then she would refund the $80 prepaid fee, so I left. I imagine most people after taking time off work, prepaying $80 for the exam, and having a cat in heat just quietly sigh to themselves and sign away another $250 when that sheet of paper is dropped in front of them, so it's a big win for Dr. Cunningham even if now and then a person walks out on her. But it's illegal under Ohio law to "[use] a statement ... which would create in the mind of a reasonable consumer, a false impression as to the grade, quality, ... price, value, ... or any other material aspect of the offered goods or services in such a manner that, upon subsequent disclosure or discovery of the facts, the consumer may be induced to purchase goods or services other than those offered." I will be filing a Consumer Complaint with the Ohio Attorney General and suggest anyone else with similar experiences do the same. It just takes 5 minutes to file a complaint online.

I've been taking my cats here for a little over 2 years now and have always had a great experience. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and communicative, and you can tell they care about all pets.

Dr Underwood and the people that work at Chittenden are amazing providers. My dog Odin can be a little difficult to deal with and Dr U doesn’t even bat an eye. lol she tells him enough and keeps it moving! And he deals with it! And my dog Binkie had a pretty severe infection in his here and she found it and treated it. If you are looking for a vet-come here. Each and every staff member loves their patients and animals period!
