Love this animal hospital! I’ve been to many and this is the most honest to-date. All the girls that work here are amazing and although my French bulldogs do not like going to the vet, my boys do not give the vet or the vet techs a hard time. They are fair with prices and don’t push for unnecessary testing, office visits, etc. If I have a problem that can be solved over the phone, they do rather than saying they need to be seen. Which is great since both dogs get anxious in the car. Overall cannot say enough about this animal hospital!

Chariho Animal Hospital provides a robust array of veterinary services, focusing on essential care and preventative measures without unnecessary interventions. While specific, exhaustive lists of services are often found on a hospital's direct website, based on common veterinary practices and client feedback, their offerings likely include:
- Wellness and Preventive Care: This is the cornerstone of pet health, encompassing routine physical examinations, age-appropriate vaccinations, and effective parasite prevention and control. These proactive measures are crucial for detecting potential health issues early and maintaining a pet's long-term health.
- Diagnostic Services: To accurately diagnose and treat conditions, Chariho Animal Hospital would typically offer in-house laboratory testing for blood work, urinalysis, and fecal analysis. Advanced imaging techniques such as X-rays are also standard to provide comprehensive internal views of a pet's health.
- Surgical Procedures: A range of surgical services, from routine spaying and neutering to various soft tissue surgeries, would be performed with a focus on patient safety, pain management, and careful monitoring throughout the process.
- Dental Care: Oral health is integral to overall pet wellness. Services likely include dental cleanings, extractions when necessary, and guidance on at-home dental hygiene to prevent periodontal disease.
- Internal Medicine: For pets with complex or chronic conditions, the hospital would provide services to diagnose and manage a wide spectrum of internal diseases affecting various organ systems.
- Nutritional Counseling: Guiding pet owners on appropriate diets and feeding practices tailored to their pet's age, breed, and health status.
- Behavioral Consultations: Offering advice and resources for managing common behavioral challenges to improve the pet-owner bond and pet well-being.
- Emergency and Urgent Care Referrals/Stabilization: While not explicitly stated as a 24/7 emergency center, their ability to address concerns over the phone indicates a strong client support system, and they would likely stabilize emergent cases before referring to specialized emergency hospitals if needed.
Chariho Animal Hospital's distinguishing features, as highlighted by client testimonials, revolve around their integrity, client-focused approach, and genuine care for animals:
- Honesty and Transparency: A recurring theme in reviews is the hospital's honesty. Clients appreciate that Chariho "don’t push for unnecessary testing, office visits, etc." This commitment to providing only necessary care, rather than maximizing revenue, fosters significant trust with pet owners. This stands out in an industry where pet owners can sometimes feel pressured into costly procedures.
- Fair Pricing: Coupled with their honesty, clients consistently praise their "fair with prices." This affordability, without compromising on quality of care, makes excellent veterinary services accessible to more pet owners.
- Client-Centered Communication: The ability to solve problems "over the phone" when possible, rather than insisting on an in-person visit, is a highly valued feature, especially for pets that experience anxiety during car rides or at the clinic. This demonstrates a deep understanding of pet and owner needs and a willingness to provide flexible solutions. It also saves clients time and money, further building loyalty.
- Compassionate and Skilled Staff: The repeated mentions of "all the girls that work here are amazing," and how pets "do not give the vet or the vet techs a hard time," indicate a staff that is not only proficient in their medical duties but also possesses exceptional animal handling skills and a caring demeanor. This creates a positive experience for even the most nervous animals.
- Focus on Preventative Care: The overall sentiment suggests a practice dedicated to "keeping our pets healthy," emphasizing preventative measures and practical advice to avoid more serious issues down the line.

Jul 26, 2024 · Nichole DenerleyGreat folks- friendly and helpful. Our dogs and cat are treated so well and enjoy their visits! Thanks for keeping our pets healthy!!!
Nov 09, 2023 · Myra EWe recently moved to the Richmond area and had to establish a new Vet. Our first visit in Feb. was normal updated records and shots. However, a few weeks ago our beloved 18yrs cat Orsar became very ill. Losing such a big part of family is never easy. Dr. Matera and the Staff's compassion was unparalleled. Animals have always been family members and we have been to many Vets. They were special
Jul 22, 2024 · Mary Jo WymanVery clean and nurses & doctors are very experienced and knowledgeable in their field. Your pet family will be taken care of with care! If your pet (family member) is not feeling well this is the place to be!!
Jun 21, 2024 · bondo64 pBrought my four year old cat to his teeth cleaning appointment , I got a call later on in the day to what I assumed was them saying my cat was ready to go home but was informed that they had pulled ALL of my cats teeth besides 3 of them without even calling me. I was obviously upset about it but I was told that cats can live without their teeth and it was cheaper this way. Dr mataya claims all of her clients trust her and she’s never had a problem. If you like your animals teeth in their head where they belong I’d highly recommend not coming here.
