After hours on a Friday night my dog choked on a toy and stopped breathing. My husband gave her the heimlich, got her breathing a little, but the toy was still stuck in her esophagus and she was still clearly in distress, barely breathing, coughing up bloody foam. We called here because they are our vet, we take our dogs and cat to them for all of the routine appointments, and they are supposed to offer after hours emergency care for their patients. They don’t. When I called, while my dog was dying in front of me, I got an answering service from New York State, which directed me to take my dying dog to either Madison or Cedar Rapids. I begged to talk to our vet, but was told repeatedly that wouldn’t happen. That is what their “after hours emergency care” entails. Anyone that takes their pet here should know that if something horrible happens after their normal business hours that this vet doesn’t care, and they know full well they misrepresent the services they offer. They also have another location on Asbury Rd., Vanderloo & White, both are operated by the same people. There’s no way I could continue to take my pets here. A wonderful woman, the on call vet, at Veterinary Associates-Galena ended up answering her phone that Friday night. She helped save our dog’s life. Even though we live in Dubuque we will now be taking our dogs and cat to Veterinary Associates in Galena.

Central Animal Hospital Introduce
Welcome to the introduction of Central Animal Hospital, located at 1865 Central Ave, Dubuque, IA 52001, USA. They can be reached at phone number (563) 557-1515 or mobile phone +1 563-557-1515. Operating as a Pet Hospital, Central Animal Hospital is also mentioned to have another location on Asbury Rd., known as Vanderloo & White, both reportedly under the same management. Based on the available customer reviews, experiences with this clinic appear to be varied, with both positive and significantly negative feedback regarding their services, particularly concerning after-hours emergency care.
As a Pet Hospital with two locations (Central Ave and Asbury Rd./Vanderloo & White), the environment across these facilities likely aims to be professional and equipped for animal care. Standard veterinary hospitals typically include examination rooms, and depending on the services offered, may also have surgical suites, diagnostic imaging equipment, and areas for patient recovery. One positive review mentions follow-up appointments, suggesting they have facilities for ongoing care. However, no specific details about the clinic's ambiance or the setup of either location are provided in the reviews.
The services offered at Central Animal Hospital seem to include routine veterinary care, as one reviewer mentions taking their dogs and cat there for all routine appointments. This suggests they provide services such as wellness exams, vaccinations, and general health maintenance. Additionally, the clinic is "supposed to offer after hours emergency care for their patients," according to one review, although the experience described by that reviewer contradicts this. On a more positive note, another review mentions "urgent vet care" received over Labor Day weekend, as well as subsequent follow-up appointments, indicating they do offer treatment for acute issues and ongoing management of pet health. It's important for potential clients to clarify the full range of services provided and the availability of emergency care.
Several features emerge from the customer reviews. One positive feature is that Dr. White is mentioned by name and praised for providing excellent urgent care. The fact that a pet required and received two follow-up appointments suggests they offer continuity of care. However, a significant negative feature highlighted is the alleged misrepresentation of after-hours emergency services. One reviewer recounts a critical situation where they were directed to facilities far away instead of receiving local emergency support from Central Animal Hospital, despite being regular clients. This raises concerns about the reliability of their stated emergency care policy. The existence of two locations under the same management is also a notable feature for local users to be aware of.
The customer reviews present a mixed picture of Central Animal Hospital. One pet owner had a dire experience when their dog was choking after hours. They reported that the after-hours emergency care, which they believed was offered, turned out to be an answering service directing them to vets in other cities. This reviewer felt that the hospital misrepresented its emergency services and stated they would no longer take their pets there. Conversely, another reviewer needed urgent care over Labor Day weekend and praised Dr. White for the excellent care their dog received, also expressing satisfaction with subsequent follow-up visits and recommending the clinic to other animal lovers. These contrasting experiences indicate that while some aspects of the care, particularly during regular hours or with specific veterinarians like Dr. White, may be satisfactory, there are serious concerns regarding the reliability of after-hours emergency services as perceived by at least one client.
Currently, no specific promotional information is available for Central Animal Hospital in the provided text. Pet Hospitals sometimes offer promotions for routine services or for new clients. To learn if Central Animal Hospital is currently running any such promotions at either of their locations, local users would need to contact them directly at (563) 557-1515. They would be able to provide the most up-to-date information on any special offers or packages they might have.
In summary, Central Animal Hospital in Dubuque, IA, with an additional location (Vanderloo & White), offers routine veterinary care and has been praised for urgent care provided by Dr. White. However, a significant concern has been raised regarding the after-hours emergency services, which one client described as misrepresented and unhelpful in a critical situation. Potential clients should be aware of these contrasting experiences. For routine care and with Dr. White, some pet owners have been pleased. However, those relying on the availability of local after-hours emergency care from this clinic may need to seek clarification or consider alternative options based on the negative experience reported.
For local users in Dubuque, IA, considering Central Animal Hospital for their pet care needs, it's advisable to note the mixed feedback. While routine and urgent care provided by Dr. White have been positively reviewed, there are serious concerns about the reliability of their after-hours emergency services as described by one pet owner. If after-hours emergency care is a priority for you, it would be prudent to discuss this specifically with the clinic to understand their current protocols and ensure they meet your expectations. For regular appointments and care with Dr. White, some clients have had positive experiences.
Choosing a Pet Hospital involves considering various factors, including the quality of routine care and the availability of emergency services. The reviews for Central Animal Hospital present a dichotomy. The positive feedback regarding Dr. White and follow-up care suggests competent daytime services. However, the severe criticism of the after-hours emergency response warrants careful consideration, especially for pet owners who value immediate local support in critical situations. We encourage potential clients to inquire directly about their emergency protocols to make an informed decision.
If you are a pet owner in Dubuque, IA, looking for a Pet Hospital, Central Animal Hospital and their Vanderloo & White location are options to consider. However, given the significant negative feedback regarding after-hours emergency care, it is crucial to weigh this alongside the positive comments about Dr. White's urgent care and routine services. Contacting the clinic directly to discuss your specific needs and their emergency protocols is highly recommended before entrusting them with your pet's care.

Nov 07, 2023 · Jamie BirchNeeded some urgent vet care over Labor Day weekend and Dr White took excellent care of the dog. The dog has since had two more follow-up appointments and we were very pleased with both of these visits too. Will absolutely recommended to all animal lovers!
