The staff has shown so much heart, treating our girl with the same love and gentleness we would. They’ve given us as much time with her as her condition allows, and that has meant everything to us. Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts, for being there for Boba and for us. Your care, kindness, and expertise are deeply appreciated during this difficult time. Thank you so much for saving our sweet girl!

The environment is described as fully-equipped, implying modern medical technology and infrastructure. Given the critical nature of emergency and specialty care, the hospital likely maintains a highly organized, sterile, and efficient setting. Customer reviews consistently highlight the staff's "kindness," "patience," "compassion," and "reverence," even during emotionally challenging times. This indicates a deeply empathetic atmosphere where pet owners feel supported and their beloved animals are treated with dignity and love, regardless of the severity of their condition or the outcome. The dedication of the staff, including specific mentions of Natalie, Dr. Blair, Dr. Simmerson, and Dr. Noeller, suggests a team-oriented approach where every member contributes to a supportive and caring environment. This compassionate approach extends to handling difficult situations, such as a pet's passing, where the clinic provides thoughtful and respectful services like cremation, emphasizing their commitment to honoring the pet's life.
Carolina Veterinary Specialists Winston-Salem provides an extensive array of services, distinguishing itself through its focus on advanced specialty care and continuous emergency availability:
- 24/7 Emergency Veterinary Care: This is a core service, ensuring that pets receive critical medical attention around the clock, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Their emergency veterinarians are specially trained in emergency medicine and triage, capable of handling immediate and life-threatening situations.
- Advanced Specialty Veterinary Services: The clinic hosts a team of highly qualified, board-certified veterinary specialists across various disciplines. These referral-based services are typically available during weekday hours (Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm). Specialties offered at this location include:
- Surgery: For complex surgical needs.
- Neurology: Addressing conditions of the brain, spinal cord, and nervous system.
- Internal Medicine: For complex medical conditions not requiring surgery.
- Comprehensive Referral Care: They work in conjunction with primary care veterinarians, providing advanced diagnostic and treatment options for challenging medical conditions that may extend beyond the scope of a general practice.
- In-House Lab & Diagnostics: The facility is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools, including an in-house laboratory for rapid test results, and imaging capabilities (e.g., X-rays, possibly CT scans).
- Critical Care: Beyond emergency stabilization, they provide ongoing critical care and hospitalization for pets needing intensive monitoring and treatment.
- Patient-Centric Communication: As noted in reviews, the team is committed to keeping owners "fully informed, supported, and involved every step of the way," which is crucial for managing complex medical cases.
- Compassionate End-of-Life Care: Beyond medical treatment, the clinic provides supportive services during difficult times, including respectful handling of pet cremation, as highlighted by a customer's positive experience with the quality of memorial items.
Several features make Carolina Veterinary Specialists Winston-Salem stand out:
- 24/7 Emergency and Critical Care: The constant availability of emergency services is a major differentiator, providing immediate support when a pet's regular vet is unavailable. This continuity of care is vital for critical cases.
- Board-Certified Specialists: The presence of multiple board-certified specialists (like Dr. Blair, Dr. Simmerson, Dr. Noeller mentioned in reviews) ensures a high level of expertise for a wide range of complex medical conditions, offering advanced diagnostic and treatment options that go beyond general practice. Each specialist has undergone at least three additional years of training beyond veterinary school and passed extensive examinations to achieve board certification.
- Exceptional Compassion and Communication: This is perhaps the most consistently praised feature. Customers repeatedly highlight the "kindness," "patience," and "compassion" of the doctors and staff (e.g., Natalie, Mandy). The team's ability to communicate clearly, keep owners informed, and even engage in personal conversation during stressful times (like Mandy talking about fishing with a distraught owner) demonstrates a profound level of empathy and dedication to both the pet and the owner. This empathetic approach helps make "an overwhelming time a little easier to bear." They prioritize understanding the unique needs of each pet and owner.
- Effectiveness in Challenging Cases: The successful removal of a deeply embedded fish hook and the saving of "sweet Boba" from a severe condition illustrate their capability in handling acute and complex emergencies with speed and precision.
- Respectful Handling of Pet Loss: The meticulous and dignified cremation service, including the quality of the memorial items (wooden box, leather paw print case, velvet and satin dust covers), shows an extraordinary level of care and reverence for beloved pets even after their passing. This goes "above and beyond" expectations, providing solace to grieving owners.
- Collaborative Approach: They work as an extension of primary care veterinarians, suggesting a collaborative model where specialized care complements ongoing general veterinary services. This ensures that pets receive the most appropriate and comprehensive care.
- Fully-Equipped Facility: The hospital boasts advanced diagnostic tools and in-house lab and pharmacy capabilities, enabling efficient and thorough medical assessments and treatments.
While one review mentions an initial concern about the availability of specific tools for a unique emergency, the swift and positive outcome, coupled with the overwhelming kindness, quickly resolved this and solidified trust, demonstrating their problem-solving abilities and dedication to patient outcome.
Carolina Veterinary Specialists Winston-Salem primarily promotes its services through its core offerings: comprehensive emergency care and advanced specialty services. While explicit, time-limited promotional deals are not specified, the hospital's features act as its strongest marketing points:
- Always Open: Their 24/7 emergency service is a constant "promotion" of availability and readiness for urgent situations, providing peace of mind for pet owners.
- Specialized Expertise: The emphasis on board-certified specialists highlights their capacity for advanced care, attracting referrals from general veterinarians and direct inquiries from owners seeking expert opinions for complex conditions.
- Compassionate Care: The consistent positive feedback on staff kindness and empathy serves as powerful word-of-mouth promotion, drawing clients who prioritize compassionate treatment for their pets during vulnerable times.
- New Patients Welcome: They explicitly state that "New Patients Always Welcome," indicating their readiness to accept new cases, whether for emergency or specialty referrals.
- Online Pharmacy & Shopping: For added convenience, Carolina Veterinary Specialists offers an online store. Customers can register at checkout to take advantage of free shipping, use coupons, and check with the office about their order. They also offer "AutoShip" for recurring purchases, providing free shipping and competitive pricing with instant rebates. This feature enhances accessibility for medication and product needs.
For pet owners, it's important to note that specialty appointments typically require a referral from a primary care veterinarian. For emergency situations, no referral is needed, and immediate contact is encouraged. Potential clients should contact the clinic directly at (336) 896-0902 for specific inquiries about services, pricing, and to understand the referral process for specialty consultations. Their commitment to providing "first-rate veterinary care, because your pet deserves the best," is evident in their operations and the heartfelt testimonials from grateful clients.

Apr 22, 2025 · Melinda MillsMy dad’s dog swallowed a huge fish hook today and he rushed her to this emergency vet after his vet couldn’t get it out. He was a little upset at first that they asked him if he had any tools to cut the hook…just thinking that an emergency vet should have that! But thank god he takes his tools everywhere. They got the hook out pretty fast considering how bad it was (it had gone through the inside of her throat) and they were so incredibly kind! They were kind, fast acting, and so informative. I believe he will take her back here if there are complications and not his own vet. Dr. Blair and Mandy are 10/5 stars. Mandy even went out of her way to talk to my dad about fishing just to be conversational. Love them. 💙 I want to edit my review and say again how much these people care and do a great job. I hate I had to come back just 4 months later, but our other dog unexpectedly passed away and she passed on the way to the vet. We had them cremate her and for just over $300 we did not expect how nice it would be. I went to pick her ashes up today and couldn’t believe the quality of the wooden box, the leather case her plaster paw print was in, and there are metal name plates on both. Everything came in velvet and satin dust covers. It just felt like they honored her and we are so appreciative. On top of that they were just as kind as before and so…reverent of the loss we were experiencing. Thank you!
Mar 06, 2025 · Caitlynn BarthI took my baby there on may 3. We waited almost 6 hours to be seen. He was treated and sent home. On may 6 I called cause he was getting worse and my vet couldn't see him till Monday the 12. I called them to see long the wait was the lady said 2 and half hours. I explained to her that we were there Saturday and I was bringing him back. Could I go ahead and sign him up the lady said no and hung up the phone I wasn't even finished talking so I decided to take my pet to someone else.I highly recommend taking your pet to Truss vet in Greensboro. They took excellent care of my baby and gave him a E collar which he should've had Saturday when I was at Carolina Specialist. The people at Carolina Specialist have no compassion whatsoever. In my opinion they don't care about the Animal just the money.
May 07, 2025 · connie wilkinsOn March 22, my nephew‘s dog went into labor and we thought she was gonna have to have a C-section so we rushed her to Carolina vet specialist because our regular vet was closed. When we got there after waiting about 30 minutes our dog ended up having the puppies right in the lobby! Samantha one of the technicians there was really pleasant and professional towards us and our dog. She kept reassuring us if we needed anything to call back to the office. Well our dog had the second puppy on the way home! So we did have a few questions for her, and she answered our questions without seeming bothered or irritated that we were calling back. Samantha was very helpful throughout all this because it was a very stressful event, but she made it less stressful with her expertise, genuineness, and professionalism. Keep of the great work Samantha!
Apr 07, 2025 · Rainbow PureLast week we had to make the very tough decision to put our big love bug Koda to sleep. CVS was extremely compassionate and allowed us as much time with him as we needed. Never rushed the process and explained everything to us. He went down hill rather quickly and unexpectedly at only about 6/7 years old. He was very calm and welcoming of their care and presence and they made sure he crossed the rainbow bridge with dignity and respect. Thank you for your care and excellence during this time of loss for our family.
