Have been going here for 3 years and then all of a sudden we weren’t patients anymore here all because I got my dogs vaccinated at a clinic because I couldn’t afford their prices. Clearly they don’t care about animals like they say they do. I also had an appointment today there for my cat and one dog who is pooping blood and they still wouldn’t see her even knowing the issues that my dog was having. Not impressed at all with how they dealt with this. So if you are thinking of bringing your animals here just be careful cause they really don’t care.

Welcome to Cardigan Veterinary Clinic

Cardigan Veterinary Clinic, located at 200 US-4, Canaan, NH 03741, USA, is a deeply rooted pet hospital serving the Canaan community and its surrounding areas. This clinic positions itself as a comprehensive veterinary practice, offering a wide array of medical, surgical, and dental services for both small companion animals and, uniquely, provides some services for larger animals. The clinic’s reputation is built on decades of service, with long-term clients expressing profound trust and gratitude for the care provided to their pets. However, recent feedback also indicates that potential clients should be aware of specific policies related to pricing and patient eligibility.

Environment: A Dedicated Space for Diverse Animal Care

As a veterinary facility that caters to both domestic animals like dogs and cats, and offers services for larger animals, Cardigan Veterinary Clinic likely maintains a practical and functional environment. While detailed descriptions of the interior are not extensively available, the nature of their services implies dedicated examination rooms for smaller pets, and possibly larger areas or specific equipment to accommodate equine dentistry or other large animal needs, which are often provided ambulatorily or at specific large animal facilities. The clinic's ability to "take her in 2 hours" during a screaming emergency, as recounted by one grateful client, suggests an organized and responsive system equipped to handle urgent situations.

The facility is designed to provide "Quality Medical, Surgical & Dental Care," which necessitates appropriate diagnostic equipment and surgical suites. The positive testimonials about the staff's helpfulness, niceness, and knowledge also imply a welcoming atmosphere where clients feel informed and supported. The fact that a loyal client would "definitely drive the hour just to go back" even after moving away underscores a powerful positive experience within the clinic's environment.

Services: From Routine Wellness to Emergency Interventions

Cardigan Veterinary Clinic offers a broad spectrum of veterinary services, addressing both preventive and reactive care for pets. Their comprehensive approach aims to support animals through all stages of life. Key services include:

  • General Practice Veterinary Medicine: This forms the core of their services, covering routine health maintenance.
    • Physical Exams: Comprehensive annual check-ups are emphasized for monitoring overall health.
    • Vaccinations: Essential immunizations to protect pets from common diseases.
    • Parasite Prevention: Programs for the control and prevention of internal and external parasites.
    • Wellness Care/Checkups: Proactive health management to keep pets healthy and detect issues early.
  • Diagnostic Services:
    • In-House Laboratory: For quick and efficient diagnostic testing, including blood work and urinalysis, enabling prompt diagnosis and treatment.
    • Radiology (X-rays): Digital imaging for detailed views of bones and internal organs, crucial for diagnosing injuries and illnesses.
    • Ultrasound: Advanced imaging for soft tissue and organ evaluation.
  • Surgical Services:
    • General Surgery: Including routine procedures like spaying and neutering.
    • Dental Surgery: Comprehensive dental care to address oral health issues.
    • Other Surgical Procedures: As a full-service clinic, they likely handle various other common surgical needs.
  • Emergency & Urgent Care:
    • The clinic is equipped and staffed to handle "Emergencies... anytime our clinic is open." They advise clients to call ahead if possible, but are prepared to see urgent cases immediately. The review where a dog with a dislocated hip/back was seen promptly despite being refused elsewhere highlights their commitment to emergency situations.
  • Specialized Animal Care:
    • Equine Dentistry: A notable offering, indicating their capability to provide specialized services for horses.
    • Care for Various Species: While focusing on dogs and cats, they also offer care for other domesticated animals, including rabbits, pocket pets, reptiles, birds, and small farm animals, with "select veterinarians only" for exotic species. This broad scope sets them apart.
  • Pharmacy Services: They likely have an in-house pharmacy for dispensing necessary medications and an online option for client convenience.
Features: Compassion, Expertise, and Important Considerations

Cardigan Veterinary Clinic is characterized by several important features:

  • Exceptional Compassion and Patient Care: Reviews consistently praise the staff and veterinarians for their kindness, understanding, and willingness to go above and beyond, especially in stressful situations like severe injuries or end-of-life decisions. The anecdote of providing steroids and pain medication for a dislocated hip at a remarkably low cost, coupled with the dog's rapid recovery, showcases their effective and compassionate approach.
  • Knowledgeable and Informative Staff: Clients appreciate that the vets are "very helpful, nice, and knowledgeable," taking the time to "tell me everything" and explain the prognosis and treatment options thoroughly. This emphasis on client education builds trust and empowers pet owners to make informed decisions.
  • Responsiveness in Emergencies: The clinic's willingness to see urgent cases quickly, even when other vets refused, is a significant feature, demonstrating their dedication to animal welfare in critical moments.
  • Affordability (with caveats): One review highlights an instance of surprisingly affordable emergency care ($100 for exam and meds for a serious injury), which is a huge relief for pet owners. However, another review directly contradicts this, citing affordability as a reason for seeking vaccinations elsewhere and subsequently being dropped as a patient. This indicates that while some services might be competitively priced, their overall pricing structure or internal policies regarding external services might be a point of contention for some clients.
  • Long-Term Client Relationships: The clinic fosters long-standing relationships, with clients bringing their animals for "decades." This loyalty is a testament to the consistent quality of care and the bond built with the veterinary team, particularly with practitioners like "Dr. Gregorio."
  • Financial Flexibility (CareCredit): Cardigan Veterinary Clinic accepts CareCredit, a program that allows pet owners to pay for veterinary services in monthly installments, often with interest-free periods. This can be a crucial feature for managing unexpected veterinary expenses, demonstrating some commitment to financial accessibility for clients.

The conflicting reviews regarding client "dismissal" due to vaccinations at an external clinic highlight a critical point for potential clients: while the clinic offers excellent medical care, there appears to be a policy regarding receiving full veterinary services from them, which might impact their acceptance of external records for certain procedures. This indicates a strong preference for complete, in-house patient management, which may be a point of concern for some pet owners seeking to manage costs through external providers for routine services.

Promotional Information and Accessibility

Cardigan Veterinary Clinic primarily promotes itself through the quality of its care and the strong testimonials from its loyal client base. While specific, broad "promotions" in the retail sense are not highlighted, their willingness to accommodate emergencies, their range of services, and their acceptance of CareCredit act as ongoing benefits for pet owners. The clinic aims to provide "the best quality of veterinary care possible and to help your family make the right decisions for your pets at every phase of their life," which is their overarching value proposition.

Cardigan Veterinary Clinic can be reached at (603) 632-7500 or via mobile at +1 603-632-7500. Their address is 200 US-4, Canaan, NH 03741, USA. They are open six days a week, with appointments being computerized for efficient scheduling. While they accept emergencies, calling ahead is advised. For non-emergency situations, appointments are necessary to ensure each pet receives thorough attention. Their willingness to "squeeze" in urgent but non-life-threatening cases between scheduled appointments further demonstrates their commitment to patient access.

In conclusion, Cardigan Veterinary Clinic is a well-established and compassionate pet hospital in Canaan, NH, recognized for its comprehensive veterinary services, expertise in diverse animal care, and exceptional responsiveness in emergencies. While the clinic cultivates deep trust and long-term relationships with many clients, prospective pet owners should be aware of potential policies regarding external service providers to ensure a smooth and consistent care experience for their beloved animals.

I love this vet. I had an emergency with my dog. Her hips or back dislocated which I guess happens with dogs who have long back like a dachshund. She was pretty much screaming with every movement. I tried a vet close to us but the refused to take her even as she was screaming. So I called here and they took her in 2 hours. I pulled out $1000 from my savings not know how much it was cost. They were very helpful, nice, and knowledgeable. They told me everything and after examining her gave me steroids and pain medication. Those two prescriptions and the exam only cost me $100. Very grateful to them for helping my baby out and she healed within a couple weeks. Back to her wiggle butt self. I moved away but will definitely drive the hour just to go back when I need to

The "Doctor" refused to treat my sick kitten because we had him fixed at another facility. And he told us not to bring back any of our other animals!! Very unprofessional! Vets do take an oath don"t they??

If I could give this place a zero I would. I went with my cat and the front desk and vet techs were great however Dr. Hutchinson was terrible. My cat had a large tumor on her face however he handled her so aggressively. She was the sweetest cat ever and never aggressive and he slammed her down on the table. There was blood on the table. After he did the exam he gave me no options other than just put her down. He maybe said five words about treatments options and it was "I'd put her down today"

Love this place. Dr Hutchins put my 16.5 year old girl down. He explained everything so clearly to my granddaughter about the cancer. The day he helped her cross rainbow Bridge, he came out to the truck and did it in my granddaughters lap. She loved Miss Stacey so much ,and he just talked to my granddaughter and kept her so calm. We love you all. Thank you for all your help and caring ways.
