The staff was very helpful and very kind. Dr. Holbrook is very knowledgeable and compassionate. We were only there for one visit to get a second opinion on our hurting fur baby. Everyone was very professional and gave us several options for treatment and informational papers to help us make an informed decision. I would recommend Dr. Holbrook and her staff for your fur baby’s care.

Significant Concerns Regarding Euthanasia and Pet Care (as per negative review): It is vital to present all available customer feedback for a balanced perspective. A highly critical review details an extremely traumatic euthanasia experience. This client reported that a vet technician "missed the vein" leading to "splattering blood," insufficient initial sedation causing the dog to be "sputtering and coughing," and the vet reportedly "froze" during this critical moment. The client also stated that they had to direct the vet to get more medication and that their dog was made to die on a cold metal table instead of in their arms, despite their wishes. This experience caused "extreme trauma" and led the client to strongly advise against using the clinic, calling it "the worst" and expressing a profound sense of unforgiveness. This specific, severe negative review highlights a concerning breakdown in procedure, communication, and compassionate care during a profoundly sensitive moment for a pet owner.

They would emphasize their knowledgeable and compassionate team, their advanced diagnostic and surgical capabilities, and their commitment to a fear-free, cat-friendly environment. Online scheduling and an online pharmacy add to their convenience for clients.
For pet owners in Springfield, IL, considering Capitol Illini Veterinary Services, it is important to weigh the varied customer experiences. While the clinic appears to excel in many areas of general and specialized veterinary medicine, offering advanced diagnostics and a professional approach to treatment, the severe negative feedback concerning a specific euthanasia experience cannot be overlooked. For routine care, diagnostics, and general medical/surgical needs, many clients have had positive experiences, praising the knowledge, compassion, and professionalism of the staff. However, for sensitive procedures like euthanasia, potential clients might consider directly discussing their expectations and the clinic's protocols to ensure a comfortable and respectful process for their beloved pets. As with any significant service, a direct consultation to clarify concerns and gather specific information pertinent to one's pet's needs is advisable to ensure a positive and trusting relationship with their chosen veterinary care provider.

Apr 04, 2025 · Jacqueline SelinfreundIt has taken me a few years to finally be able to write this, as it is extremely difficult to even think about: My dog was taken here to be put down in her old age. The vet tech missed the vein in her arm and she was splattering blood everywhere. They did not give her enough of the initial medicine to make her sleep, so she was sputtering and coughing. In this moment, the vet froze and I had to yell at her to go get more - it was like I was the vet running the room (as a college student with no medical background or training). Finally they were able to get her to sleep to do the final medicine to end her suffering (which was heightened by their terrible work) and they made us put her on the table so she died on a blanket on a cold metal table instead of in my arms. This experience has caused me extreme trauma and I think about it daily. It was the worst possible way I could have imagined her death. This place is the worst and if you love your pet, I would NEVER go here. There are many other better places in the Springfield area. I can’t even drive by here anymore it makes me so sick. It was a life changing experience to say the least. I will never forgive the staff here for what they put me and my precious baby through.
Feb 03, 2025 · Maddie SchurmanEver since I've taken my cat here to get her vaccines about 5 months ago she continues to throw up no matter the type of food we give her. She has never had any issues with throwing up before and could down any kind of food even a tiny bit of human food when my eyes were off my plate but now anything she digests to cheap through the expensive brands it comes right back up. I'm tired of finding piles of puke all over the house. Not to mention they refused to chip my cat when my entire appointment was based solely on only getting her fixed and chipped!!
Apr 27, 2025 · AmyDr.Holbrook was wonderful. She took lots of time to go over everything with us concerning our Great Pyrenees. She was super gentle with him. Everyone there was just very nice. It made our first visit there very comfortable.
Nov 25, 2024 · Cris HardwickThe best vet clinic I’ve been to. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. My pups love their doctor! I took my first two pups there until they passed. My two current pups go now! I will always highly recommend Capitol Illini!!
