Welcome to Caldwell Integrative Veterinary Medicine

Welcome to Caldwell Integrative Veterinary Medicine, a pet hospital located at 56 Gooding Ave in Bristol, Rhode Island. This veterinary practice offers a unique approach to animal health by integrating both conventional and holistic medical practices. Dr. Caldwell and her staff aim to provide comprehensive and personalized care for your beloved pets, considering a variety of treatment options to address their individual needs. The clinic's philosophy centers on a balanced approach to wellness, potentially incorporating therapies such as acupuncture alongside traditional veterinary medicine.

One positive aspect highlighted in the customer reviews is the perceived expertise of Dr. Caldwell in addressing complex health issues. One pet owner recounts a successful experience where Dr. Caldwell and her staff were able to diagnose and resolve severe allergic reactions in their daughter's dog, a purebred lab who had lost a significant amount of fur due to food allergies. Through a process of elimination, Dr. Caldwell identified the allergens, leading to the dog's recovery and the regrowth of its coat. This anecdote suggests a thorough and effective diagnostic approach, particularly in challenging cases where other practices may have struggled.

The staff at Caldwell Integrative Veterinary Medicine, particularly Jackie, are also commended for their kindness and helpfulness. This positive feedback indicates a supportive and compassionate environment for pet owners, which can be especially important when dealing with the stress of a pet's illness. A friendly and helpful staff can contribute significantly to a positive experience at a veterinary clinic, regardless of the medical outcomes.

However, it is crucial to address a detailed and concerning review that presents a contrasting perspective on the care provided at Caldwell Integrative Veterinary Medicine. This review outlines the experience of a pet owner who sought a holistic approach for their Boxer diagnosed with a mast cell tumor. The timeline of events is critical: on April 14, 2025, the dog had a routine visit that included acupuncture and a scheduled rabies vaccination, despite a recent decrease in appetite. In the days following this visit, the dog's health unexpectedly declined, necessitating multiple urgent visits. Attempts to diagnose fluid around the lungs were unsuccessful, and the dog was placed on medication. Tragically, the dog's condition did not improve, leading to euthanasia on April 26, 2025.

The pet owner, while acknowledging the kindness of the staff member Jackie, expressed a significant concern regarding the lack of guidance on alternative options, such as vaccine exemptions, given the dog's existing health issues (mast cell tumor and recent low appetite). This raises a critical point about the importance of personalized care and the need for veterinarians to thoroughly discuss potential risks and alternatives, especially for pets with pre-existing conditions. The reviewer's encouragement for pet owners to advocate for personalized care based on their animal's individual health needs is a vital takeaway from this experience.

Furthermore, an update to this review on May 16th details serious allegations regarding the handling of the deceased dog's medical records. The pet owner claims a five-day delay in receiving the records and alleges that the records were falsely modified. Additionally, the reviewer states that their requests for the dog's x-rays have been ignored by Dr. Caldwell. These are grave accusations that raise significant concerns about professional accountability and the integrity of medical record-keeping at Caldwell Integrative Veterinary Medicine.

Given the stark contrast between the positive anecdote regarding allergy treatment and the deeply concerning account of the Boxer's experience and the subsequent allegations about medical records, it is challenging to provide a uniformly positive or negative assessment. Caldwell Integrative Veterinary Medicine appears to offer a unique blend of holistic and conventional approaches, with Dr. Caldwell demonstrating the ability to effectively address complex conditions like severe allergies. The staff is also noted for their kindness and helpfulness.

However, the detailed account of the Boxer's case raises serious questions about the thoroughness of pre-vaccination assessment in a pet with a known health condition and recent appetite changes, the discussion of potential risks and alternatives like vaccine exemptions, and the communication and diagnostic efforts during the subsequent health decline. The later allegations regarding the handling of medical records and the alleged lack of response to requests for x-rays are particularly troubling and, if accurate, represent significant breaches of professional conduct and accountability.

As there is no information provided regarding specific promotions or discounts at Caldwell Integrative Veterinary Medicine, local users would need to contact the clinic directly to inquire about any such offers.

In conclusion, Caldwell Integrative Veterinary Medicine in Bristol, RI, offers an integrative approach to veterinary care, combining holistic and conventional treatments. While one customer review praises Dr. Caldwell's ability to resolve severe allergies and commends the staff's kindness, another detailed review presents serious concerns regarding the care provided to a dog with a mast cell tumor, specifically regarding the decision to vaccinate despite potential risks, the communication during the subsequent health decline, and alarming allegations about the handling of medical records. Potential clients should carefully consider these contrasting experiences and are encouraged to have thorough discussions with Dr. Caldwell and her team about the specific needs and health conditions of their pets, as well as to ensure clear communication and transparency regarding treatment plans and medical records. Given the serious nature of the allegations in the updated review, local users may wish to seek further clarification or consider these concerns when making decisions about their pet's veterinary care.

I turned to Dr. Caldwell’s office for a holistic approach to my Boxer’s health after his mast cell tumor diagnosis in 2023. On April 14, 2025, he had a routine visit that included acupuncture and a scheduled rabies vaccination. Despite his recent low appetite, the vaccination proceeded without further discussion of possible risks for his condition. In the days following, his health declined unexpectedly, leading to multiple urgent visits. Attempts to test fluid surrounding his lungs were unsuccessful, and he was placed on medication. Unfortunately, his condition did not improve, and we had to make the difficult decision to euthanize him on April 26, 2025. While I appreciate the staff—especially Jackie, who was always kind and helpful—I wish I had been given more guidance regarding alternatives, such as vaccine exemptions for pets with existing health concerns. This experience has been difficult, and I encourage pet owners to advocate for personalized care based on their animal’s individual health needs. Update 5/16: I had to wait 5 days for my deceased dog’s medical records after this tragedy. The records were falsely modified. The Dr. is also ignoring my requests to provide me his x-rays. This is unacceptable and raises serious concerns on professional accountability.

My dog has been in Dr. Caldwell’s care for about 5 years now, and we are delighted! Dr. Caldwell and the entire staff are top-notch and I would recommend them to any pet owner—100%.

I'm so thankful to have found Dr. Caldwell. My GSD had the worse allergies, other places I've been to would never listen and would try to push medicine and push big company dry foods. Dr. Caldwell listened! Her whole team is fantastic and have great customer service. My GSD allergies have been clearing up since Dr. Caldwell took the time to create a recipe of cooked meals and her patience when giving him his annual shots. I can't thank this office enough for all the stress that has been saved.

Dr Caldwell is always so accommodating for our adult dog Bear. Since we adopted him recently as an adult with lots of skin issues, Dr Caldwell and her team has been able to help us navigate his difficulties with ease, regardless of his lack of history (with him but also in general) and, special circumstances. We are forever grateful for her continued loving approach and concern for Bear to his unique patterns. We are so happy to have finally found a team who is more interested in addressing the root of his issues as opposed to simply treating his symptoms. We will never go anywhere else. If you are not happy with the lack of information you are receiving from your conventional vet, don't walk but run to Dr Caldwell and her team. You too will also be thrilled.
