Dr. Dana is wonderful. As for the entire staff, they are special people!! You can tell they all love animals!! My dog had 2 surgeries, and did all of her follow ups here, with our family veterinarian, then was diagnosed with tracheal cancer. Through all of this, the staff here were empathetic, compassionate and knowledgeable. When I lost Olivia-Rose, I recieved a hand written note , that all staff had signed!! I can't say enough about their kindness!! 5 stars!!

This facility functions as a comprehensive "Pet Hospital" dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate veterinary care for a diverse range of companion animals. The practice is highly regarded within the local community for its empathetic approach and the strong bonds it forms with both pets and their owners.

Environment and Atmosphere

The environment at Buzzards Bay Veterinary Associates is consistently described as warm, welcoming, and professional. Client testimonials frequently highlight the genuine care and love the entire staff shows towards animals, which contributes significantly to a comforting atmosphere for pets and their worried owners. A key aspect of their environment is the palpable sense of empathy and compassion, particularly during difficult times for pet families. The physical space is presumably well-maintained and equipped to handle various veterinary procedures, from routine check-ups to surgical interventions. The dedication to creating a supportive setting helps alleviate the stress often associated with veterinary visits, making it a more positive experience for the animals and their human companions.

Comprehensive Veterinary Services

Buzzards Bay Veterinary Associates offers a broad spectrum of veterinary services, demonstrating their commitment to the lifelong health and well-being of their patients. Their services cater to a variety of small animals, including dogs, cats, ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, chinchillas, and rabbits, indicating a wider range of expertise beyond just traditional cats and dogs. Key services typically provided by a full-service "Pet Hospital" of this caliber would include:

  • Preventative and Wellness Care: This is a cornerstone of their practice, encompassing routine physical examinations, age-appropriate vaccinations, parasite prevention and control, and nutritional counseling. They emphasize individualized care tailored to each pet's needs, focusing on the human-animal bond.
  • Diagnostic Services: To accurately diagnose and monitor health conditions, the hospital would be equipped with in-house laboratory capabilities (for blood tests, urinalysis, fecal exams) and imaging technologies such as digital X-rays.
  • Surgical Procedures: As evidenced by a client review mentioning a dog having "2 surgeries," Buzzards Bay Veterinary Associates performs various surgical interventions, including soft tissue surgeries and potentially some orthopedic procedures. These would be supported by pre-surgical blood work, anesthesia monitoring, and comprehensive pain management.
  • Dental Care: Maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial for overall health, and a comprehensive hospital like this would offer dental examinations, cleanings, and extractions as needed.
  • Internal Medicine: Diagnosis and management of various internal diseases and chronic conditions, such as endocrine disorders, digestive issues, and respiratory problems.
  • Geriatric and Senior Pet Care: Tailored health plans for aging pets, focusing on managing age-related conditions and maintaining quality of life.
  • Microchipping: A standard service for pet identification and recovery.
  • Follow-up Care: As highlighted in a testimonial, they provide thorough follow-up care for surgical procedures and ongoing medical conditions, ensuring proper healing and management.
  • Pain Management: A compassionate approach to managing both acute and chronic pain in animals.
  • Euthanasia and Bereavement Support: In the profoundly difficult event of losing a beloved pet, the clinic provides empathetic support, including humane euthanasia services and gestures like the hand-written condolence note mentioned by a client, demonstrating their deep understanding of the human-animal bond.
  • International Health Certificates: Dr. Dana Anholzer, one of the veterinarians at Buzzards Bay Veterinary Associates, is nationally accredited for issuing International Health Certificates, which is a valuable service for pet owners who travel internationally with their animals.

  • Focus on the Human-Animal Bond: The practice puts a significant emphasis on the bond between pets and their owners, providing individualized care that considers not only the animal's physical health but also the emotional well-being of the family.
  • Comprehensive Care for Multiple Species: Their ability to treat not only dogs and cats but also a range of exotic small mammals (ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, chinchillas, and rabbits) makes them a versatile resource for pet owners in the region.
