Dr. R is kind of an eccentric guy, but very caring about animals - especially cats. He's open to discussing different approaches to your animal's needs and went above and beyond for our elderly, sick cat more than once. I would recommend this practice to anyone looking for compassionate veterinary care.

Welcome to Brookeside Veterinary Hospital

For pet owners in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the surrounding areas, this introduction provides an objective overview of Brookeside Veterinary Hospital, located at 3010 Warren Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48105, USA. They can be reached at (734) 761-7523 or their mobile number, +1 734-761-7523.

The following information is based solely on the reviews provided by individuals who have sought veterinary care at this facility. It is crucial for local users to consider these experiences when making decisions about their pet's healthcare.

Two customer reviews offer contrasting perspectives on Brookeside Veterinary Hospital. One reviewer speaks positively about "Dr. R," describing him as "kind of an eccentric guy, but very caring about animals - especially cats." This pet owner felt that Dr. R was open to discussing different approaches to their animal's needs and went above and beyond for their elderly, sick cat on multiple occasions. Based on this experience, the reviewer would recommend the practice to anyone seeking compassionate veterinary care.

However, the second review details a significantly negative experience that occurred last spring. This pet owner, who brought in an old dog in a carrier due to her inability to walk far and suffering from concerning symptoms (nasal discharge, falling over), described a series of unprofessional and insensitive interactions with the staff. Upon arrival, the front desk staff member allegedly walked away without acknowledging the appointment initially. Subsequently, this staff member reportedly made light of the dog being in a carrier, using the term "purse dog" in a jeering manner, despite the owner explaining the dog's mobility issues. The reviewer was then led through empty rooms to an exam room and asked to complete paperwork, followed by a wait despite the apparent emptiness of the facility.

Later, a man, presumably a member of the veterinary staff, opened the door and asked nastily, "Why are you here?" When the pet owner explained their concern about their dog's medical condition, the staff member allegedly responded with a baffling question about why they couldn't ask their friends about it. Although this individual then briefly acted in a more professional manner, the overall impression left on the reviewer was that their concerns about their sick, elderly dog were treated as a joke. The reviewer also indicated that no vet seemed willing to euthanize the suffering dog, nor could they provide adequate comfort care, and that a suggested treatment was something the reviewer regretted agreeing to.

Given these two reviews, it is challenging to form a comprehensive picture of the environment, services, and features of Brookeside Veterinary Hospital. One review praises the compassion of a specific doctor, while the other recounts unprofessional and insensitive behavior from other staff members and a lack of adequate care for a severely ill animal.

Based on these reviews, potential local users might infer the following about Brookeside Veterinary Hospital:

  • At least one veterinarian, "Dr. R," is perceived as caring and open to discussing treatment options, particularly for cats and elderly, sick animals.
  • Some members of the support staff may exhibit unprofessional and insensitive behavior towards pet owners and their animals.
  • There may be issues with initial reception and communication upon arrival.
  • The assessment and treatment of severely ill or elderly animals might not always meet the owner's expectations for comfort and care.

There is limited information about the physical environment of the hospital in these reviews. The second reviewer mentioned navigating through empty rooms, suggesting it might have been quiet or understaffed at the time of their visit. There is no specific mention of cleanliness or the overall atmosphere.

Regarding services, we can infer that they offer examinations and consultations, and at least one doctor is willing to discuss different treatment approaches. However, the second review raises concerns about the effectiveness and compassion of the care provided in a specific case involving an elderly and very sick dog. The first review mentions care for an elderly, sick cat, implying they handle geriatric pet care.

There is no promotional information available in these reviews. The contrasting experiences make it difficult to identify consistent features of the practice as a whole.

For local users in Ann Arbor, MI, Brookeside Veterinary Hospital presents a mixed picture based on these two recent reviews. While one pet owner found compassionate care from "Dr. R," another experienced unprofessional behavior from staff and dissatisfaction with the handling of their elderly, sick dog. Potential clients may want to consider these differing experiences and perhaps seek more recent reviews or contact the hospital directly to inquire about their current environment, staff, and services to determine if it aligns with their needs.

In conclusion, Brookeside Veterinary Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI, has received both positive feedback regarding the compassion of at least one of their veterinarians and very negative feedback concerning the professionalism of some staff members and the quality of care provided in a specific instance involving a severely ill, elderly dog. Local pet owners should weigh these perspectives when considering this Pet Hospital for their animal care needs.

This happened last spring. I made an appointment and when I walked in the lady at the counter saw me and made a b line for a back room. I asked if I was in the right place. I told her I had an appointment and she was like sure and grabbed a clip board and took me to a room with a scale. She didn’t really check to see if I had an appt. It was odd. Not necessarily rude. I had the dog in a tote bag carrier because she was very old and couldn’t walk very far. The woman started jeering me saying “purse dog” “purse dog” in a funny voice. I tried to explain to her that the dog can’t walk that far. She walked me through a series of empty rooms to get to the exam room and told me to fill out some paper work. I waited a while and she came in again and told me I’d have to wait. This wasn’t a problem for me but seemed strange because the place looked empty and was very quiet. After a while a man cracked open the door and “Why are you here?” His tone was nasty. “I have a concern about my dog” I said. “Why can’t you ask your friends about it?” I was dumbfounded but replied “Because it is a medical concern.” He then decided to enter and behaved like he was there in professional capacity for a few minutes at least. Basically, it was older dog that couldn’t walk any distance and had green slime that kept draining out of her nose. She was constantly falling over and I wanted to get her as comfortable as possible and basically these people made a big joke out of it. No vet really wanted to put her sleep and they didn’t or couldn’t provide any thing to keep her comfortable. He suggested sometthings that I shouldn’t have agreed to.

First time coming to this clinic and it was a positive experience. Relatively easy to find, located in the country down a dirt road. It's worth noting that despite the road being dirt it is smoother and better maintained than most city streets. The setting is relaxing and pleasant, both outside and in the clinic. The clinic is spacious, clean, professional without feeling like a dispassionate, cold, hospital. The staff and Doctor were both welcoming, efficient & knowledgeable. It was an effortless experience and most importantly a positive surgical outcome for a furry friend! Thank You to everyone at Brookside 😻

Tranquil country setting. Clean & professional without being clinical and austere. Very efficient! They worked remotely with the pet's owner and got my furry friend in the same day for surgery. Left with a happier, healthier elderly feline and very clear outpatient instructions for me to follow. It was a positive experience. I also learned they are one of the clinics that works with Katsnips.org spay & neuter nonprofit. If anyone is trying to decide what clinic to choose when applying for a katsnips voucher, I recommend Brookside!
