Broadway took amazing care of our very, very sick pup. They were attentive, thorough, and coordinated full-time care at an emergency vet when needed. Afterward, they followed up with us to check on him and make sure he made a full recovery. We will definitely be back!

Broadway Veterinary Hospital Introduce
Broadway Veterinary Hospital, located at 823 Broad St, Durham, NC 27705, USA, stands as a highly regarded "Pet Hospital" within the heart of Durham. Established in December 2013 in the Central Park district of downtown Durham, the hospital recently moved to its new location on Broad Street in March 2024, just blocks from Duke University's east campus. This full-service animal hospital is dedicated to providing excellent veterinary care to pets and exceptional service to their owners. Their mission extends to creating a work environment where every team member is respected and contributes meaningfully. As an AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) accredited facility and Fear Free certified, Broadway Veterinary Hospital is committed to delivering the highest standards of veterinary medicine in a low-stress, compassionate environment. Dr. Amber Meade is a key veterinarian leading the dedicated support staff in their commitment to pet health.
The environment at Broadway Veterinary Hospital is specifically designed to be welcoming, comfortable, and low-stress for pets and their owners, aligning with their Fear Free certification. The hospital actively works to minimize anxiety during vet visits. This includes techniques such as giving pets their space upon arrival, addressing owners first to allow pets to acclimatize, and using low-restraint handling techniques during examinations. They also utilize friendly pheromones in exam rooms to counteract stress signals from previous patients, replacing them with synthetic "happy" pheromones. Client testimonials often highlight the remarkable difference this approach makes, with pets that previously experienced high anxiety now showing significant improvement and even enjoying their interactions with the staff. The facility, including its new location, is meticulously cleaned to remove stress-inducing scents. The physical space is complemented by a team that is described as calm, efficient, and exceptionally caring, fostering an atmosphere where both pets and their owners feel at ease and well-supported. Some clients even liken the environment to a comfortable living room rather than a sterile vet clinic, indicating a genuinely inviting atmosphere.
Broadway Veterinary Hospital offers a comprehensive array of services, covering the full spectrum of pet healthcare needs. As a full-service animal hospital, their offerings include robust preventative care, such as bi-annual wellness exams, routine bloodwork, and necessary vaccinations, all aimed at ensuring pets live longer, healthier lives. They provide extensive diagnostic services, including in-house laboratory capabilities, digital X-rays, ultrasounds, and EKGs, for accurate and timely identification of health issues. Surgical services are a core part of their practice, with expertise in general surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and orthopedic procedures. For post-surgical care and pain management, they offer cold laser therapy. Dental care is also a significant focus, with professional cleanings and dental X-rays to maintain oral health. Beyond medical treatments, they provide microchipping, health certificates for travel, and have specific new puppy and kitten packages to ensure a healthy start. While they do not offer routine boarding for healthy dogs, they provide medical boarding for pets with specific conditions and hospitalization for sick pets. In cases of critically ill pets needing overnight observation, they coordinate full-time care with local 24-hour specialty veterinary hospitals. The hospital also offers acupuncture for both dogs and cats. Their comprehensive approach ensures that pets receive integrated and continuous care from routine wellness to complex medical interventions.
The features of Broadway Veterinary Hospital are consistently praised by clients, emphasizing both medical excellence and exceptional customer service. A standout feature is their attentive and thorough care, particularly for "very, very sick pup," which includes coordinating specialized full-time care at emergency vets when necessary. This demonstrates a commitment to ensuring pets receive comprehensive care, even beyond their immediate facility. Their proactive follow-up calls after appointments to check on pets' recovery are a highly appreciated feature, reflecting a genuine dedication to patient well-being and strong client communication. The staff's warm greetings and ability to make anxious pets more comfortable, even leading to a "remarkable difference" in their behavior, are testament to their Fear Free approach and compassionate handling. The hospital's AAHA accreditation signifies adherence to the highest standards of veterinary excellence in areas such as facility, equipment, and patient care. Dr. Amber Meade's leadership, combined with a dedicated support staff, ensures a consistent level of quality. The ability to handle semi-emergencies promptly and provide clear cost-benefit analyses for treatment options are also highlighted as positive attributes, fostering trust and transparency with pet owners. The long-standing presence (since 2013) and positive reputation within the Durham community, including being voted "Best in Durham" by Durham Magazine and "Neighborhood favorite" by Nextdoor, further underscore their strong features and commitment to the community.
Broadway Veterinary Hospital actively promotes its services and commitment to client satisfaction through various channels. They offer specific promotions designed to make pet care more accessible and rewarding. For instance, they have a "Refer a Friend" program where both the referring client and the new client receive a $50 credit after the new client's first visit, incentivizing community growth through word-of-mouth. They also run seasonal or limited-time promotions, such as savings on heartworm, flea, and tick medications, aiming to encourage year-round parasite protection. The hospital emphasizes the convenience of their services, including online appointment scheduling. They highlight their "Care Companion Plans," which are wellness plans offering predictable monthly payment options, unlimited office calls and examinations, annual preventive and diagnostic testing, and discounts on other services. These plans are available for various life stages of dogs and cats and cover essential preventive care, including vaccinations and parasite prevention. They also offer specific packages for spay and neuter surgeries. Furthermore, Broadway Veterinary Hospital supports local animal welfare by offering a free first exam for pets adopted from Animal Protection Society (APS) within one week of adoption. For the most up-to-date information on their current promotions and services, interested individuals are encouraged to visit their website or contact them directly at (919) 973-0292 or +1 919-973-0292. Their business hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, providing ample opportunity for inquiries and appointments.

Mar 26, 2025 · Megan CofferBroadway Vet goes above & beyond. They do follow-up calls to ask how my dog is doing after appointments, they greet her warmly, and provide thorough care. She had some major anxiety about going to the vet at the beginning. Now, there is a remarkable difference, even if she doesn't love it. She's still in good spirits and enjoys the staff!
Oct 04, 2024 · Emily KrumbergerAbsolutely horrible experience. On our first visit (I have 3 dogs), Dr Meade showed zero interest in talking to me about my dogs' history. Nor did she spend any time trying to warm up to my dogs before attempting the exam. They claim to be a fear-free practice, however, did nothing to alleviate my dogs' anxiety. The vet techs could not successfully draw blood. Dr Meade was in the room and completely ignored that they procedure wasn't going well. Instead of helping them, Dr Meade eventually just left the room. I finally just stopped the exam and left as my dogs were terrified and I was extremely stressed out by the experience. If this is the way they treated my dogs in front of me, I can't imagine the treatment if I were to have let them take the dogs in the back for the blood draw as they originally wanted to do.
