Vets are nice, caring, and want the best for your pet. 25%off if you are on Medicare/Disability. Easy to get to. Adoption services, as well as a low cost clinic. Donations are accepted with great thanks. They do great follow up. A little hard to get in as they are very busy. A great choice for lower priced, quality pet care. Aftercare services are also available. Would love to see lots of donations toward up graded equipment, and training for staff so they can continue up to date care . Clean place, with very helpful staff.

Welcome to Brackett West Veterinary Clinic
Brackett West Veterinary Clinic, situated at 115 Bishop St, Portland, ME 04103, USA, functions as a vital "Pet Hospital" within the greater Portland community. While it is important to note that as of July 31, 2025, all patient care will be consolidated to their main location, Brackett Street Veterinary Clinic at 192 Brackett St, this clinic has historically served as a crucial resource for pet owners seeking affordable, compassionate, and quality veterinary care. You can reach them by phone at (207) 747-5733 or via mobile at +1 207-747-5733.
Brackett West has particularly distinguished itself by its commitment to making veterinary services accessible, especially to those with financial constraints, while maintaining a high standard of care. This focus on affordability and compassion has made it a valued part of the local pet care landscape.
The environment at Brackett West Veterinary Clinic is consistently described as clean and staffed by very helpful people. Customer reviews highlight a welcoming and positive atmosphere, emphasizing the kind, compassionate, and knowledgeable nature of the entire team, from the vets to the support staff. For pets, this translates to a less stressful experience, as evidenced by a review praising their perfect kindness to a "kittycat."
Being a low-cost clinic, the environment balances efficiency with care. While they are noted as being "very busy," this indicates high demand for their services, likely due to their affordable pricing and quality care. Despite the busyness, the staff's dedication to patient well-being and client communication shines through. The overall impression is one of a clinic that is well-maintained and run by a team genuinely committed to the health and comfort of both the animals and their owners.
As a "Pet Hospital," Brackett West Veterinary Clinic has offered a range of essential veterinary services, primarily focusing on preventative and wellness care, aligning with its mission as a low-cost clinic. While comprehensive surgical and advanced diagnostic services might be more centralized at their main Brackett Street location, their historical offerings would typically include:
-
Wellness & Preventative Care: This is a core focus, including:
- Routine Physical Examinations: Essential for monitoring overall pet health and detecting issues early.
- Vaccinations: Providing crucial immunizations to protect pets from common and serious diseases.
- Parasite Control: Advice and treatments for preventing and managing fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites.
- Nutritional Counseling: Guidance on appropriate diets for pets of all ages and health conditions.
-
Low-Cost Clinic Services: Their dedicated status as a low-cost clinic suggests a streamlined approach to common procedures, potentially including:
- Spaying and Neutering Services: Often offered at a more affordable rate to promote population control and improve pet health.
- Microchipping: A vital service for pet identification, increasing the chances of reunion for lost pets.
- Adoption Services: The mention of adoption services indicates their involvement in animal welfare beyond direct medical care, potentially collaborating with local shelters or offering adoption support.
- Follow-up Care: Clients explicitly highlight that they "do great follow up," which is a crucial aspect of patient care, ensuring pets recover well and any ongoing conditions are monitored effectively.
- Aftercare Services: The availability of "aftercare services" suggests they provide support and resources for pets requiring ongoing care post-treatment or for end-of-life situations, emphasizing their compassionate approach.
It is important to remember that as of July 31, 2025, these services will be fully transitioned to the Brackett Street Veterinary Clinic, which offers a broader spectrum of surgical and dental procedures in addition to wellness care.
Brackett West Veterinary Clinic's defining features and strengths have centered around its commitment to accessible and compassionate care:
-
Affordable and Low-Cost Care: This is arguably their most significant feature. They are explicitly mentioned as a "low cost clinic" and are a "great choice for lower priced, quality pet care." This makes essential veterinary services accessible to a wider segment of the community, which is crucial for overall pet health. They aim to balance quality with affordability, which is a rare and valuable combination in veterinary medicine.
-
Discounts for Vulnerable Populations: A standout feature is their generous 25% discount for individuals on Medicare or Disability. This directly addresses the financial barriers many pet owners face, reflecting a strong social conscience and dedication to animal welfare across all economic strata.
-
Kind, Compassionate, and Knowledgeable Staff: Repeatedly praised in reviews, the vets and staff are described as "nice, caring, and want the best for your pet." This empathetic approach is vital, especially for anxious pets or distressed owners, fostering a trusting relationship.
-
Excellent Follow-Up and Aftercare: The commitment to "great follow up" and "aftercare services" demonstrates a holistic approach to patient management, ensuring pets receive continued support beyond their initial visit or procedure.
-
Community Involvement: Their acceptance of donations and involvement in "Adoption services" highlights a broader commitment to animal welfare beyond just their direct patients, suggesting a community-minded practice.
-
Ease of Access: The clinic is noted as "Easy to get to," which is a practical benefit for clients, reducing travel stress for both pets and owners.
While one review mentioned a desire for "upgraded equipment, and training for staff," this comment is offset by the overwhelming positive feedback on staff quality and care, suggesting that the clinic successfully provides quality care even within its "low-cost" framework. The "Keep getting my order wrong" comment points to a potential administrative or pharmacy-related issue that the clinic might have addressed.
For Brackett West Veterinary Clinic, the primary "promotional" aspect has been its commitment to providing affordable, quality pet care, especially through its low-cost model and the specific 25% discount for Medicare/Disability recipients. This makes it a highly attractive option for a significant portion of the community.
While specific, short-term promotional offers aren't detailed in the provided information, their inherent value proposition lies in cost-effectiveness and compassionate service. Their acceptance of donations also implies a community-supported model, where grateful clients can contribute to the clinic's ability to continue offering its services.
It's crucial for local users to be aware of the upcoming consolidation. As of July 31, 2025, all patient care previously provided at 115 Bishop St will transition to the main Brackett Street Veterinary Clinic at 192 Brackett St, Portland, ME 04102. This means that moving forward, pet owners who previously visited Brackett West will need to direct their inquiries and visits to the main Brackett Street location. This consolidation aims to bring all services under one roof, potentially enhancing efficiency and the range of specialized care available to clients.
For the most up-to-date information on services, hours, and any ongoing initiatives or promotions, clients should contact the main Brackett Street Veterinary Clinic directly via their phone number (207) 772-3385, or visit their website if available. The legacy of compassionate, affordable care established at Brackett West will undoubtedly carry over to the consolidated location, continuing to serve the Portland community.

Jan 27, 2025 · Jennifer LedouxStaff was very nice. The Veterinarian I spoke with was also helpful with information. Prices were dair and service was welcoming and prompt! I highly recommend to anyone looking for great service
Aug 11, 2020 · Stephanie HutzAfter years of coming here, I am very disappointed as of late. My dog sees a specialty vet for diabetes and gets lots of bloodwork and exams there. All the information is shared with Brackett W. From Brackett, we only need the usual vaccines and heartworm tests. However, despite my request today to have only bordatella and distemper taken care of, Brackett did an exam without telling me and insisted on charging me for it. This is a bait and switch, and smacks of profit-making over good veterinary medicine. I will be looking for another everyday vet.
