We’ve been going to Bowling Green for about 8-9 years now with multiple animals. I’m super ticked off!! My current pup seen for 4. She’s been on allergy meds for severe allergies basically the whole time. Her annual isn’t due until 4/10 which we have an appt 4/11 but I don’t have enough meds for my dog until then and they refuse to write a script for enough until the appt. Now I’m going to have to double up and titrate this medication which is expensive- meanwhile my dog’s clawing her face off & is now bloody and swollen due to all the pollen this week and her being out of meds since last weekend. What is happening?? I’ve called several times over the last week AND asked to speak with a Dr. Human medicine is not this complicated- pet medicine shouldn’t be either. I’m not asking for a months script- just enough to get us to our appt!

The term "Pet Hospital" in this context signifies a versatile practice equipped for both routine outpatient care and more extensive hospital care, including diagnostics, surgeries, and continuous monitoring.
Bowling Green Veterinary Clinic emphasizes a truly caring attitude and a friendly, knowledgeable staff, striving to keep pets healthy and safe. While specific architectural details or unique design elements of the building are not widely publicized, the focus of the clinic's environment appears to be on creating a comfortable and reliable space for pet owners. The long-standing history of the clinic, serving the community since 1949, suggests a deep-rooted commitment and a familiar presence for local families. The clinic's stated mission to provide the best quality veterinary medical and surgical care, coupled with their commitment to treating all animals as if they were their own, indicates an environment built on compassion and trust. The hospital is set up for both complete outpatient and hospital care, implying facilities capable of handling various levels of medical needs.
Bowling Green Veterinary Clinic offers an extensive range of veterinary services, addressing the health needs of a diverse patient base, from beloved household pets to larger farm animals. Their services include:
Pet Wellness Services: This is a core component, encompassing regular wellness exams, which are crucial for detecting health issues early, as pets age significantly faster than humans. They recommend annual examinations and provide life-stage wellness programs tailored for puppies, kittens, adult pets, and senior pets.
Vaccinations: Essential vaccinations are provided to protect pets from preventable diseases, with vaccine protocols customized to each pet's lifestyle and risk factors.
Puppy and Kitten Examinations and Vaccinations: Specialized care for young animals, including physical examinations and their first sets of vaccinations, with follow-up exams until they are fully protected.
Spay and Neuter Services: Routine surgical procedures vital for population control and preventing certain health and behavioral problems in dogs and cats.
Microchipping: Permanent Identification for Your Pet: A crucial service for pet safety, offering a reliable way to reunite lost pets with their owners.
Surgical Care: The hospital is well-equipped to perform a wide variety of minor and major surgical procedures, ranging from routine spays and neuters to more complicated emergency, orthopedic, and soft tissue surgeries. They emphasize thorough pre-surgical physical exams and surgical monitoring.
Diagnostic Services:
Radiology and Ultrasounds: Utilizing X-rays to evaluate and diagnose problems within a pet's organ systems (heart, lungs, abdomen) and orthopedic issues with bones and spine. Ultrasounds provide non-invasive imaging of internal structures.
Laboratory Testing: Equipped with a sophisticated diagnostic laboratory to perform regular exams, routine blood testing, and specialized diagnostic tests to identify health issues that pets cannot communicate verbally.
Pet Dental Care: Recognizing the importance of oral health, they offer comprehensive dental care to prevent dental disease and tooth loss, which can impact a pet's overall health.
Pharmacy and Pet Products: An on-site pharmacy provides convenient access to an extensive inventory of veterinary pharmaceutical items, supplies, and medications, including specialty foods and flea & tick preventatives.
Large Animal Services: Beyond companion animals, the clinic provides general health outlines specific for herds, vaccinations, deworming, castrations, blood tests, and antibiotic treatment on the farm or at the clinic, catering to the agricultural community.
Pocket Pets: Veterinarians are available to assist with information and care for "pocket pets" such as ferrets, rabbits, and guinea pigs, including nutritional and husbandry advice.
Pet Nutrition: Offering advice and personalized plans, including pet food recommendations, to maintain optimal pet health.
End of Life Pet Care: Providing compassionate guidance and support for pet owners facing difficult decisions, including discussions about euthanasia and coping with pet loss.
One of the most consistently praised features of Bowling Green Veterinary Clinic, according to customer reviews, is the outstanding care provided to young animals and the comforting atmosphere. A client enthusiastically described their experience with a puppy, stating, "Every staff member we dealt with was awesome. They made us and our puppy feel at ease the whole appointment. They took their time with us and answered all our questions." This indicates a patient-centered approach, focusing on comfort and clear communication, which is crucial for building trust with new pet owners and their animals.
The pricing is also highlighted as "very good," making comprehensive veterinary care accessible. This combination of compassionate care and reasonable cost has led at least one family to declare they have "found our forever vet clinic!"
However, it is important to acknowledge a significant concern raised by a long-term client regarding prescription refills and communication. The review highlights a situation where a dog with severe allergies was denied an emergency refill of medication to bridge the gap until an annual appointment, despite multiple calls and requests to speak with a doctor. This suggests potential challenges in the clinic's prescription refill policy or communication protocols, which can be frustrating and even distressing for pet owners, especially when dealing with chronic conditions. The client's sentiment that "Human medicine is not this complicated – pet medicine shouldn’t be either" points to a need for more flexibility or clear communication in such critical situations.
Bowling Green Veterinary Clinic primarily promotes its comprehensive range of services and its long-standing commitment to the community. Their website invites potential clients to learn more about their services and how they can be "an integral part of your pet health care," emphasizing the importance of selecting a reliable veterinarian. They highlight their dedication to treating all animals as if they were their own, fostering a sense of being "glad to have you as part of our family."
For accessibility, the clinic provides its phone number (573) 324-3145 and an email address (bgvetclinic3@gmail.com) for inquiries and appointments. They also offer a contact form on their website for convenient communication. The clinic's office hours are:
- Monday: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM
- Tuesday: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM
- Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM
- Thursday: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM
- Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM
- Saturday: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (with 1-4 PM designated for Urgent Care)
- Sunday: Closed
The availability of Saturday urgent care is a significant benefit for clients with immediate concerns. They also partner with CareCredit to offer financing options, making veterinary care more financially manageable for pet owners.
In conclusion, Bowling Green Veterinary Clinic at 1230 S Business Highway 61 in Bowling Green, MO, is a well-established "Pet Hospital" that provides comprehensive and compassionate veterinary services for both small and large animals. Its strengths lie in its wide range of services, its long history in the community, and the friendly, accommodating nature of its staff, particularly noted for making new pets feel at ease and offering good value. Apr 04, 2025 · Kayla BehnenThey were so great with our puppy! Every staff member we dealt with was awesome. They made us and our puppy feel at ease the whole appointment. They took their time with us and answered all our questions. Pricing was very good also. We found our forever vet clinic!
Apr 08, 2025 · Leah Middleton SchlueterI love this place! The vets and staff are friendly, helpful and love my animals. One of the reasons I chose bowling Green is bc they have their own emergency services and deal with large animals plus I really like the vets here. They have top of the line services and they get me in just about when needed, they have never turned me down for appointments. I might have to wait but I'm willing especially if there's a problem with my pet. Thank you bowling Green for being the best!
Feb 14, 2025 · Julie OlleCannot thank this staff and the vets enough for helping us take care of our Eddie. As soon as you walk into the clinic, you can immediately tell how much you all love your jobs. Not only were we helped the day of our call… But thorough explanation of options were given to us. Lastly, our vet went above and beyond to further explain how to reduce stress for our Eddie. Not only is our cat feeling better but he’s acting more affectionate than he ever has! Thank you all for helping us better understand the behavior and needs of our animals! God bless!
