This is an extraordinary place to receive specialized veterinary care for your pets. Cardiology vet, Dr. Sarah Miller, and her team have been wonderful caring for my beautiful cat, Birch, and his brother, Goblin, who have congestive heart failure. Birch’s condition is now progressing and his prognosis is grim, yet I count on everyone at Blue Pearl to give him the best care possible. Yes, the fees for this specialized treatment are high, and I wish they had not discontinued the senior discount which would have made his ongoing care a lot easier on us, with the tests, medical visits and compounding medicine (this reminds me I must write an excellent review for Compounding Central Pharmacy in Los Alamitos who have also been outstanding and to the Cat Clinic in Costa Mesa for referring us). Thank you to everyone for knowing how much my cats mean to me and doing what you can to prolong their lives and give them quality care.

I have to say I felt a lot of anxiety before taking my dog in for surgery. The first time in decades of pet ownership. Everyone at this facility has been amazing – from Dr. Gassel to the receptionists at the front desk. His assistant, Grace, showed compassion and patience with both me and the dog. On a follow-up visit for a dressing change, Amy had us in and out within 15 minutes and was friendly and caring. Yes, the whole experience has been expensive, but I can also say it’s the finest veterinary care I have ever seen.

Adding stars because everyone was very professional and reassuring with the care they will provide for my dog... then the potential bill came, way overpriced. The surgery my dog needed was going to be $11,000(or more) marked down to $7,000(or more) because of a promotion they were offering. Went back to an ER in Grand Terrace and they did it for just under $5,000 total. Some more perspective, this placed charged us $900 for a basic ultrasound, the ER charged us $90.

I waited months to write this to avoid posting out of anger, but the experience was truly traumatic. I’m giving two stars because some staff showed genuine care—but many aspects of Blue Pearl’s operations were unacceptable. Key issues: The lack of specialists on-site from Friday–to Monday is a major flaw. Even on-call, they were hard to reach. My dog was in critical condition, and I had to beg for a specialist, only to barely see her. Disorganized billing: Random staff brought itemized care plans riddled with errors—wrong timeframes, incorrect charges, and treatments listed that were never performed. Emergency center delays: Waiting 2+ hours in the ER isn’t acceptable, even with triage. If you’re understaffed, fix it—you charge enough to hire more help. My dog had complications after a routine dental procedure from another hospital. After a month of worsening symptoms and visits to multiple facilities and doctors, Blue Pearl was our last stop. Despite her severe condition—unable to eat or breathe properly—I struggled to get an appointment with the specialist, and rechecks were a nightmare to schedule. We saw one specialist and five rotating doctors, often late at night or on weekends. I had to repeat her full history every time. Notes didn’t seem accurate or thorough—one doctor even tried prescribing pills to my dog and I had to reiterate that she couldn’t swallow solids. Every visit meant repeat blood work and x-rays—$500–$700 each time—even though we came in almost every other day. By the end, she was on 14–16 liquid meds daily. Managing this at home was grueling, and the only alternative was paying $3,000 a night for hospital boarding. Tragically, she suffered complications and had to be euthanized in Dec. 2024. Even that process was botched—the IV wasn’t placed correctly, and they had to take her away to redo it. It was a painful, emotionally raw moment made worse by poor execution. Then in March 2025, I was mistakenly charged for another pet's visit—three months after my dog had passed. Completely unacceptable. In short: poor coordination, understaffing, inconsistent care, and billing errors—paired with outrageous costs. Do better.
