I just want to start off by thanking everyone at BluePearl, from the receptionists to the vet techs to the doctors, who were all incredibly kind and extremely helpful from the get-go. My partner and I's orange cat experienced a series of back-to-back urinary obstructions that just seemingly came out nowhere (no prior health conditions either). While we initially brought our baby to a local vet for consult, we were ultimately told he would need to be seen at the nearest hospital which happened to be BluePearl. For context, our cat experienced his first urinary obstruction around mid-January and he was in and out of the hospital until the beginning of February. It was an excruciatingly stressful three weeks of wondering if he would be able to make it. Throughout all of this, there is one person that I cannot thank enough and that is Dr. Patricia Joyce. We had two different doctors during our initial visits, but Dr. Joyce eventually became our main point-of-contact regarding our little baby's health and we trusted her wholeheartedly with every consultation and suggestion on the way. I could tell that she loved what she did, she loved every pet that came into that facility, and our cat was no different. Dr. Joyce was extremely helpful and empathetic with what we were going through and helped us navigate every decision we had to make at the time. Even during times where we all felt hopeless and wondered if euthanasia would be best for our cat, Dr Joyce empathized with us, while also doing her best to figure out what was causing his urinary obstructions and figuring out how she could best treat him and overcome this. After numerous scans and tests, we were able to decide that a cystotomy surgery was necessary to help our little baby move forward and begin his healing process, and Dr Joyce went above and beyond to help us coordinate a surgery appointment ASAP with a different hospital. Even then, when we were in the care of a different facility, Dr Joyce reached out to us and we were able to keep her updated every step of the way. After a long two months from when this all started, along with 40 days of antibiotics, I am extremely glad to say that our cat is alive and thriving! (which is something I couldn't even dream was possible during the entire fiasco). The day I am writing this is actually the day we brought our cat back to BluePearl for his follow-up checkup after he finished his antibiotics, so we are still very much navigating through his healing journey. Again, Dr Joyce took great care of him, evaluating his condition, and discussing further recovery care with us. We are so so so grateful for everything that she and BluePearl have done for us and fingers crossed to a smooth recovery for our little catto! And huge shoutout to the receptionists and vet techs who saw us hanging around in the waiting room for hours on end in the beginning, while we waited for our cat to be seen and waiting for the consultations! Even though it was such a stressful time for us, you all still managed to help keep everything a little light-hearted when bringing us to the consult rooms and discharging.

I was advise to go to another vet hospital for emergency but I glad that I ended up in BluePearl. My beloved cat become sick so suddenly that she was require visit to the hospital. It was my first encounter with such facility that I didn’t know what to do, how it goes, what to expect. Front desk ladies were kind, soft spoken and supportive. Even though I wasn’t a patient I needed those kind of communication not to break down in tears. Dr Williams saw my cat right away and was updated me about her treatment periodically, tests was done fast, options for my cat possible treatment and outcome discussed in soft and tender matter. Unfortunately my cat’s health condition deteriorate fast that I have to put her to sleep. Thanks to Dr Williams and Blue Pearl that I could be present with my beloved cat at her last moment, also for post mortal care package. I also like waiting area, its cozy, roomy, with private room to speak with doctors. I also appreciate that facility has private room for families who are saying final goodbye to their beloved pats. I am so appreciable to Dr Williams, his assistance, front desk ladies for provided treatment to my beloved cat, for assistance to my baby cat to cross the rainbow bridge and my support owner

My story is important because it's about an ordinary cat 9-1/2 year-old domestic short hair, male, neutered, who sustained an ordinary injury (tongue laceration in a fight with another cat) and whose owner (me) was charged $4,073.57 by BP-Park Slope. PLEASE SEE THE PHOTOS OF THE BP BILL. BP did very little to nothing to help my cat over a 24-hour period in which my cat was admitted to BP from early afternoon on Thu., Nov. 14th, to early afternoon of Friday, Nov. 15th, when he was discharged w/o any help and with instructions for me to take him elsewhere. Since no one believes random reviews on the Internet, I'm attaching (redacted for privacy) my BP bill in the net amount of $4,073.57. Let’s start, it’s Thu. afternoon, Nov. 14th. After taking my cat to his regular vet in Park Slope, the vet said that she couldn't help because the cat required emergent treatment. At the time, the cat's tongue was swollen and protruding out of his mouth. He was drooling, not eating/drinking. At the vet's recommendation (and she offered me a few), I chose BP-Park Slope which was within the walking distance. 15 minutes later, I brought my cat to BP. The vet on duty insisted that the cat absolutely needed a CT scan, a $$$ procedure. I repeatedly said no. She convinced me instead to have my cat undergo a jaw x-ray, with a warning that the feline jaw x-rays are often inaccurate. I insisted on speaking with the interpreting radiologist, but was told no. Instead, I received by email a copy of the radiologist's report. The radiologist (who interpreted the films remotely) noted that the "left and right" X-ray markings had not been placed when the films were taken, making his/her interpretation more difficult. The radiologist found nothing wrong on the films, but recommended a more thorough x-ray, or, once again, a CT scan. Moving on to Fri. late morning/early afternoon when I returned to BP. The vet on duty (a different vet this time) now said to me that a CT scan couldn't be performed on that particular Fri. because there was no radiology tech on duty. I asked for the placement of an esophageal tube (called E-tube), as the cat had been getting IV fluids but no food at BP. The same vet responded that BP (again, on that particular Fri.) could not place an esophageal tube and that, in any event, a CT was needed BEFORE an E-tube could be placed. The upshot: take your cat to another ER vet and leave us alone. The net price for the cat's 24-hour stay at BP was $4,073.57. Bottom line: I was overcharged by $2,000 by BP. At the subsequent vet ER (VERG in Park Slope), the vet on duty manually examined my cat's mouth. She quickly found out my cat had only a superficial laceration of his tongue with associated swelling,. She said w/o hesitation that a CT scan was not needed. On the same Fri. afternoon, my cat was admitted to VERG. There, an E-tube was placed and he boarded at VERG from Fri., Nov. 15th through Sat., Nov. 23rd when he was discharged home on liquid antibiotic twice daily and Magic Mouthwash twice daily. I've been changing his "kitty collar" twice daily morning and night to ensure that his stoma heals well. The takeaway from this review: FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR PET, STAY AWAY FROM BLUE PEARL. If you don't believe numerous other negative reviews, if you don't believe in God, or in anything else, nonetheless I beg you to heed my warning to keep your pet away from Blue Pearl. BP's response to my negative review -- that "we're good to every pet" -- misses the crucial point. In the specific case of my cat, his jaw was not manually examined and he received no E-tube. After wasting $4,245.32 on BP, I had to spend $6,700 at VERG to get my cat back to health. For the past 8 weeks, I've been trying w/o success to get a $2,000 (50%) refund from BP. My complaint was referred to the Managing Director (a licensed vet). Crickets.

After having a bad experience at another nearby emergency vet, we went to Blue Pearl and I'm so glad we did. The staff is very kind and professional and our vet Dr. Souza-Morris, was excellent, very thorough and communicated everything well. My dog had sudden breathing difficulties and we were in a panic. The waiting room was welcoming and she was able to see the vet right away here. The vet found she has pneumonia and gave her oxygen and an IV. She was able to be seen right away and got X-rays and diagnostics so we got the antibiotic she needed to get better. The payment process was simple and while it's not cheap, it was more affordable than the other emergency vet we had been to (VERG). They were quick to send the records as well. I am relieved to have found a good emergency vet in Brooklyn.

I’ve visited BluePearl three times over the years and have always received fantastic care. This week, I brought in my dog with severe gastrointestinal issues and experienced compassionate, thorough treatment. While the front desk can be a bit disorganized, the staff is so kind that it didn’t bother me. Dr. Joyce was especially impressive—she took the time to explain everything clearly and made me feel comfortable. Highly recommend BluePearl!
