Very disappointed with Dr Audrey. Saddened to realize after almost 30 years with her and telling many people how wonderful she was, that when I had to put my baby down suddenly after his last visit with her, that she still has not even acknowledge that he is gone. It's been 8 days

Key Features and Strengths

Black Rocks Animal Hospital's reputation is built on several distinctive features and strengths, often highlighted by long-term clients:

  • Dr. Audrey Karamourtopoulos's Expertise and Dedication: Dr. Audrey, a 1987 graduate of Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine and owner, is consistently praised as an exceptional veterinarian. Having practiced for over 35 years in MA and NH, including opening Fremont Animal Hospital for 28 years, she is described as "passionate and dedicated," handling "challenges of difficult internal medicine cases" and being a "very skilled surgeon." Her long-standing commitment to individual animals and families is a significant asset.
  • Deep-Seated Compassion and Empathy: The team, especially Dr. Audrey, is recognized for genuinely caring about their work and the animals. They "truly care about what they are doing" and demonstrate a profound empathy, "feeling with the owners" during difficult decisions, including end-of-life care. This empathetic approach fosters strong bonds with clients and provides comfort during distressing times.
  • Commitment to Patient Comfort: The clinic actively strives to make animals comfortable, even during stressful procedures. Their willingness to "take the time to build bonds" and make procedures like "nail trims less scary" showcases a patient and gentle handling philosophy.
  • Continuous Improvement: The team "take every opportunity to learn how to do better," indicating a commitment to ongoing education and adopting best practices in veterinary medicine.
  • Long-Term Client Relationships: The most compelling strength is the generational loyalty of clients, with one reviewer stating their "childhood pets went here for their whole lives, and went on to pass here," and now they bring their own animals. This level of trust and continuity speaks volumes about the consistent quality and care provided over decades.
  • Community Involvement: Dr. Audrey's involvement in helping establish rescue organizations and providing extensive medical care for rescue animals further highlights the hospital's dedication to animal welfare beyond just their clinic patients.

While the vast majority of feedback is highly positive, it's important to acknowledge the concern from one client regarding the perceived lack of acknowledgment after a pet's passing. This specific feedback, though isolated in the provided text, suggests that even highly compassionate practices can sometimes fall short in individual post-loss communications, which is a sensitive area for pet owners.

The depth of this praise, spanning decades and generations of pets, is a testament to the hospital's consistent excellence and unwavering commitment to care, even in the most painful moments of a pet's life. The fact that an former employee still chooses to bring their own animals there further solidifies this message of unparalleled care.
  • Conversely, one review expresses profound disappointment, stating, "Very disappointed with Dr Audrey. Saddened to realize after almost 30 years with her and telling many people how wonderful she was, that when I had to put my baby down suddenly after his last visit with her, that she still has not even acknowledge that he is gone. It's been 8 days." This feedback, while critical, serves as an important piece of promotional information by highlighting the deeply personal nature of veterinary care and the immense grief associated with pet loss. The team at Black Rocks Animal Hospital is very helpful, knowledgeable, and truly care about what they are doing. They prioritize the care of the animals and do everything they can to make each animal feel comfortable. They take the time to build bonds with them, and make even small procedures like nail trims less scary. They take every opportunity to learn how to do better. There is no better clinic and no better doctor to care for your animals than Doctor Audrey. She goes above and beyond every time and does all she can. When things are out of her control, and choices have to be made, the whole team feels with the owners and does what they can to make them and their pets as comfortable as possible. All of my childhood pets went here for their whole lives, and went on to pass here in the care of Doctor Audrey and her team. I now bring my own animals, and as someone that has known this place for most of my life, and went on to work there, even after departing I still take my animals there because there truly is no better care.
