Birkdale Animal Hospital

I first met Dr Mark in 2022. At that time, my sweet old Yorkie, Muffin, was having many health issues that other vets couldn't figure out. It felt like they were bandaiding the issue rather than finding the actual problem. We had been to at least 3 different vets before coming to Birkdale Animal Hospital. Within the first meeting, Dr Mark determined she had IBD which was most likely caused by allergies that were throwing her entire system off. With internal medicine testing, it confirmed his suspicion. With just a change of diet, she was back to her crazy, spunky self. For a little over a year, she did great! We took her hiking, car riding, seeing family, and more! She was loving life and living her best. As she got older, her struggles increased. What was IBD, food allergies, chronic pancreatitis, collapsing trachea, and luxating patella also turned in seizures (epilepsy), low-grade heart murmur, and kidney disease. Dr Mark and his team were amazing (and still are!)! They answered all of my questions, read and responded to all of my emails, got us in as soon as they could (sometimes the day of!), and were patient and compassionate the entire time. Muffin felt loved and safe there and as a pet parent, that's all that mattered to me. Unfortunately I did have to let my sweet Muffin rest. Her kidney's failed. But I am eternally grateful for every person at Birkdale Animal Hospital for all that they did to give Muffin the best life and me the most time that I could with her. A massive thank you to the receptionists who answered all of my calls, managed to fit me in to the schedule even when I didn't think it was possible, and forwarding my thousands of emails to Dr Mark. A huge thank you to all of the Vet Techs who took exceptional care of my beautiful girl. She never trusted me to give her fluids, but she did you, and that is a super power. And thank you to Dr Sarah, Dr Upchurch, and Dr Strong for seeing my Muffin - we didn't see each other often but I do appreciate the help and guidance you provided. Dr Regina, thank you for supporting us along the way and being there Friday before the snow storm to help give Muffin the rest she had been asking for all week. Your care and compassion truly helped my partner and I through the process. I know Muffin was comfortable the entire time - especially when she started to snore. Lastly, Dr Mark, thank you for giving me the best nearly 4 years with my Muffin. You responded to every email I had (which was many!), did an incredible job on her eye surgery (seriously - if your pet needs any surgery - he is your go-to! Just hear his story about the Dalmatian spots!), and referred me to the best neurologist in the city to help when she had seizures. This review is only a small bit of what you did to make Muffin's life the best it could ever have been. I think I would break the google review platform if I listed everything. This review is long, but I truly hope it emphasizes how amazing everyone is at Birkdale Animal Hospital. They are the absolute best and I know if you give them the chance, it won't take long for you to see it too.

My dog, booger and I love Birkdale Animal Hospital! The staff is super pleasant and so willing to assist. Whether you call them or go in person. It’s a very efficient office. They treat booger like royalty! And especially appreciate the quick turnaround time and follow up. The Veterinarians, who work there, specially, Dr. Strong - are patient, very informative & eager to take care of your pet. I would most definitely recommend this veterinarian office!

So glad I was reccomended this clinic and beyond grateful for Dr. Regina! My cat Karma was having diahrrea and vomit on a wednesday. By thursday night she was already looking better but then friday morning I noticed her very lethargic and with heavy breathing. Thinking she was getting dehydrated I decided to take her to the vet. After a few calls to diffrent doctors I made the choice on VCA. (which I came to regret) The doctor there told me Karma's heart was failing and her lungs sounded like they had fluid in them. She said I needed to take her to ER to get some x rays done and get her on oxygen but warned me I might be looking at a $2000-$3500 bill or more if she needed a cardiologist - and even then they couldn't guarantee Karma would get better. At this point I was already a mess but then they suggested that if I didn't have the funds to cover that, the other option was to put her down. When I tell you the emotional damage this caused me! I asked about doing the x-rays there at VCA instead, expecting it to be cheaper. I was told it would cost me $800 to get them done there plus I think she said other $400 to keep Karma there until they had time to deal with her... I ended up refusing everyhting and left to get a second opinion. By sombody's reccomendation, I took Karma to Birkdale Animal Hospital. They only charged me $250 for the x ray, kept her in observation for $0 and diagnosted her with pneumonia. We were sent home with antibiotics and only a $417 total bill. Karma is now fully recovered and doing well. Dr. Regina saved my baby. She was so compassionate and understanding and did her best to look at diffrent options to help us out. I'd like to give a very special thanks to her and the whole BAH team!

I have taken all my dogs to Birkdale for over 18 years and will not trust my fur babies to anyone else! Everyone is wonderful! When your babies are sick, love that they always follow up to check to see how they doing! Highly Recommend Birkdale!!

Just the absolute best staff…from the front desk, to the technicians, to the doctors. Everyone goes above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. We get the best care, I wouldn’t go anywhere else.
