We’ve been coming to Banfield for many years (close to 20 years). We have three dogs. We have the wellness plan with Banfield because it is affordable. We have always had friendly service. Today we came in for a cytopoint shot for our dog who had an itchy foot. We got to the location 5 minutes before our appointment and were not seen until 30 minutes after we were scheduled. We were told that the doctor got behind. We understand the previous visits could have gone long. However, taking this long to see a vet tech is always taken 30 minutes to be seen. We were assigned to a room and when we got in there, the table had not been cleaned from the prior client. The table was covered in dog hair and prints from the previous dog. when the vet tech came in, she informed us that we were also getting a 6 month comprehensive examination part of our wellness program. We had not been informed about this when we were checked in as we had only scheduled for a cytopoint shot with the vet tech. So now what should’ve been a 15 minute appointment for just a shot with the Vet tech has turned into a full physical with the vet, in addition to the shot. We have now been here well over an hour. One of the big problems with Banfield is checkout. It can take 10 to 15 minutes just to check out. We are considering going to another vet because of the time that it takes for each visit. On another note, our dogs had their annual wellness visit six months ago and they told us today that this is a six month check. If that’s the case, why haven’t we received any notification for our other two dogs for a 6 month wellness check?

Banfield Pet Hospital Introduce

Welcome to Banfield Pet Hospital, a well-established veterinary care provider located at 1040 University Ave Ste B105 in San Diego, CA 92103, USA. Operating under the platform category of Pet Hospital, Banfield has been serving pet owners for many years, as indicated by a long-term customer of nearly two decades. With a focus on accessibility and comprehensive care, Banfield Pet Hospital offers a range of services aimed at promoting the health and well-being of your animal companions.

While the provided reviews offer insights into customer experiences, they do not provide explicit details about the physical environment of the Banfield Pet Hospital in San Diego. However, based on the nature of a pet hospital, it can be inferred that the facility includes examination rooms for consultations and treatments, potential surgical suites for various procedures, and areas for diagnostic testing. Cleanliness and a comfortable atmosphere for pets are typically priorities in such environments. One customer review, however, noted an instance where an examination table was not cleaned prior to their use, indicating a potential lapse in their standard hygiene protocols. It is reasonable to expect that Banfield Pet Hospital strives to maintain a professional and sanitary setting for the health and safety of all visiting animals.

Banfield Pet Hospital offers a variety of services to cater to the diverse healthcare needs of pets. A prominent feature highlighted in the reviews is their wellness plan. This plan is described as affordable and includes valuable services such as dental cleanings for cats and comprehensive visits for both dogs and cats. These comprehensive visits encompass essential aspects of preventative care, including blood work, stool samples, weight checks, and vaccinations. The availability of wellness plans suggests a focus on proactive healthcare and budgeting for routine veterinary needs. In addition to these planned services, Banfield Pet Hospital provides care for specific health concerns, as evidenced by a visit for a Cytopoint shot for an itchy foot. It can be inferred that they offer treatments for various ailments and conditions affecting pets.

A significant feature of Banfield Pet Hospital, according to the customer reviews, is the availability of wellness plans that offer a structured approach to pet healthcare. The inclusion of dental cleanings in cat wellness plans and comprehensive visits in both dog and cat plans demonstrates a commitment to addressing key areas of pet health. The "comprehensive visits" are further detailed to include blood work, stool samples, weight monitoring, and vaccinations, indicating a thorough approach to routine check-ups. These plans are perceived as affordable by at least one long-term customer, making preventative care more accessible.

Another noted feature is the staff's friendliness and communication skills. Customers have described the staff as friendly and communicative, and the veterinarians are reported to be willing to answer concerns and questions. This aspect of customer service contributes to a positive overall experience, fostering trust and open communication between pet owners and the veterinary team. Furthermore, scheduling appointments is described as easy, suggesting an efficient administrative process.

However, the reviews also highlight some areas where Banfield Pet Hospital could improve. A recurring concern is the significant waiting times experienced during appointments. One customer reported waiting 30 minutes past their scheduled appointment time to see a vet tech, attributing it to the doctor running behind. This issue of prolonged waiting times appears to be a consistent problem, potentially extending the duration of what should be a relatively short visit. Additionally, the checkout process is mentioned as being slow, sometimes taking an additional 10 to 15 minutes.

Another point of feedback relates to the coordination of wellness checks. One customer whose dogs had their annual wellness visit six months prior was informed during a recent visit that it was time for a six-month check. This raised questions about why they hadn't received notifications for their other two dogs for a similar six-month wellness check, indicating potential inconsistencies in their communication or scheduling for follow-up appointments within the wellness plans.

One customer also mentioned a preference for being present in the room during the vet visit, noting that their previous vet (VCA) allowed this. While Banfield's staff informed them that they could request this in the future, it was initially presented as a difference in policy. Allowing owners to be present can help reduce stress for pets who may become anxious when separated from their owners.

Currently, the provided information does not include any specific promotional offers or discounts from Banfield Pet Hospital. In conclusion, Banfield Pet Hospital in San Diego offers a range of veterinary services, with a notable emphasis on their affordable wellness plans that include preventative care such as dental cleanings and comprehensive check-ups. The staff is generally perceived as friendly and communicative, and scheduling is convenient. However, potential drawbacks include significant waiting times for appointments and during checkout, as well as potential inconsistencies in the communication and scheduling of follow-up wellness checks. Local pet owners seeking a long-established pet hospital with wellness plan options should consider Banfield Pet Hospital, but also be aware of the reported issues with appointment delays and checkout efficiency. Pros: wellness plans that include dental cleanings for my cats and comprehensive visits (for blood work, stool samples, weight, & vaccines). Staff are friendly & communicative. Vets are willing to answer concerns and questions. Scheduling is easy. Con: my only minor con is that the VCA allowed me to be in the room during the vet visit. The staff here let me know I could request that in the future. I think my girls get stressed when they don’t see me.

We have been bringing our Chiweenie to this Hillcrest location for years, and keep coming back because of the exceptional care we receive. Every single employee treats both my dog and me with the utmost respect. This is an honest vet who genuinely cares about your pet and does NOT nickel and dime you. When our primary vet left the practice, we started seeing Dr. Q, and I couldn’t be happier. He is compassionate, kind, and incredibly knowledgeable. Dr. Q takes the time to make sure you feel heard and answers all of your questions thoroughly. My dog has MAJOR anxiety and this entire office is more than accommodating to ensure my pup is as relaxed as possible. I highly recommend this location for anyone looking for trustworthy and caring veterinary care! P.S - LOOK INTO THE BANFIELD WELLNESS PLANS!! 100% worth every single penny. We love the Banfield Hillcrest team! :)

I cant say enough about how friendly and kind all these people are. My cat Frank had to be taken in as an emergency last week and I called the location near me and they couldn’t take me. Called another same. This location, although much farther than my local will be the one I go to hein here on out. Frank had massive liver/kidney failure, and unfortunately I was told he had to be put down. Found him off the street 10yr ago and he had been a best friend since. Dr. Varney, Rianna, Jazmin, Margerida, Ariana, and Dez were so wonderful and caring for Frank, and myself that I can’t thank them enough. I’m grateful I was able to be there to his last moment of a kiskass life. You’re missed Frank The Tank. My dog Maggie has a new doctor and a great place for checkups. Thank you everyone and for the thoughtfulness of that sweet card you all sent.

$400 for a test that I didn’t get results from for weeks, antibiotics that were ineffective, and FLEAS. I was told the original vet was out of town and so I would need to bring my cat back (and pay again) so another vet could analyze the results of the original test. On top of that, my indoor cat came back with fleas. My place is infested with fleas now and my cat is still sick. Most of the people were nice, but that just doesn’t mean a lot if they aren’t planning and caring for the animals properly.
