This is the worst hospital ever! I have had a pet plan for 8 years. Both times my pets have been super sick I have been turned away to go the emergency pet hospital while they were still open. My dog is in distress they didn’t answer the phone so we drove over and were turned away. This is not a hospital. It is a vaccine clinic with no regard for its clients or caring for its pets. Front desk staff was rude & 0 empathy after I told them by dog just threw up blood. One time they even sent home my schnauzer with a catheter still in his vein. I should have switched then! I worked at veterinarian hospitals in my youth. They never turned away a sick animal. Especially one that was just seen less than 2 weeks ago for a dental.

Welcome to Banfield Pet Hospital

Banfield Pet Hospital, located at 21019 U.S. Hwy 281 N, San Antonio, TX 78258, serves the local community as a part of the Pet Hospital category. With contact phone numbers (210) 481-9506 and +1 210-481-9506, they aim to provide accessible veterinary care for pet owners in the area.

As a Pet Hospital, Banfield typically offers a range of services to address the health needs of pets. These often include routine wellness examinations, vaccinations, dental care, nutritional counseling, parasite prevention, and treatment for various medical conditions and minor injuries. Banfield is also known for offering pet wellness plans, which are designed to help manage the costs of routine preventative care through bundled services and regular payments. These plans can be tailored to different life stages and species of pets.

The environment of a Banfield Pet Hospital is generally intended to be a comfortable and clean space for both pets and their owners. You can typically expect waiting areas, private examination rooms, and potentially on-site facilities for basic diagnostic tests and dispensing medications. The aim is to create a professional and reassuring atmosphere for veterinary visits.

A key feature of Banfield Pet Hospitals, as part of a larger network, is their standardized approach to veterinary care and the potential for consistent medical records across different locations, should a pet owner relocate. They often emphasize preventative medicine and aim to build long-term relationships with pet owners to ensure the ongoing health of their animal companions. Many Banfield locations also leverage technology for appointment scheduling and communication.

However, it's important to consider all available feedback when evaluating a veterinary service provider. Recent customer reviews for this specific Banfield Pet Hospital at 21019 U.S. Hwy 281 N in San Antonio, TX, present a mixed picture of the services provided. One customer expressed significant dissatisfaction, stating they had been a pet plan holder for eight years and reported being turned away during times their pets were severely ill, being directed to an emergency pet hospital instead, even while Banfield was still open. This reviewer described an instance where their dog was vomiting blood and they were allegedly met with rude and unempathetic front desk staff. They also recounted a previous incident where their pet was sent home with a catheter still in place. This customer strongly criticized the clinic, suggesting it operates more as a vaccine clinic with a lack of concern for sick animals and their clients.

In contrast, another long-term customer (over 10 years) shared a more positive experience, highlighting the caring and friendly nature of the staff during both happy and difficult times. This reviewer specifically praised Dr. Saucedo for her attentiveness and care. However, they also noted that the practice can be very busy, sometimes necessitating seeking urgent care elsewhere due to appointment availability.

These contrasting reviews indicate that while some pet owners have experienced positive and caring service at this Banfield Pet Hospital, others have encountered significant issues, particularly concerning access to care during acute illnesses and the responsiveness of the front desk staff in emergency situations. The positive review suggests that the quality of care may vary depending on the specific veterinarian and perhaps the circumstances of the visit.

Regarding promotional information, Banfield Pet Hospital typically promotes its Optimum Wellness Plans. These plans are designed to provide a proactive approach to pet healthcare by bundling essential services such as routine examinations, vaccinations, parasite prevention, and dental care into a manageable monthly or annual fee. The specifics of these plans, including coverage and cost, can vary based on the pet's species, age, and the level of plan chosen. Pet owners interested in these plans should contact the Banfield location directly to understand the different options available and determine if they align with their pet's needs and their budget. It is advisable to inquire about any current special offers or enrollment incentives that may be available.

In conclusion, Banfield Pet Hospital at 21019 U.S. Hwy 281 N, San Antonio, TX, offers a range of veterinary services and wellness plans as part of a national network. While one long-term customer review highlights positive experiences with caring staff and a specific veterinarian, another recent review expresses serious concerns about being turned away during pet emergencies and experiencing rude front desk service. Prospective clients should consider these differing perspectives and may wish to inquire specifically about the clinic's policies regarding emergency care, appointment availability, and front desk communication when deciding on a veterinary care provider for their pets. Contacting the hospital directly for detailed information about their services, wellness plans, and any current promotions is recommended to make an informed decision.

I've been taking my Golden Retrievers to Banfield for over 10 years. Found staff to generally be caring and friendly during good times and the sad. Dr. Saucedo is incredibly sweet and takes time to listen and care for my dogs the best she can. Unfortunately the practice is very busy and sometimes I have needed to go elsewhere when unable to get an acute appointment.

I had originally made an appointment for my dog 2 weeks in advance. Then the day of, they closed the whole clinic. I wasn't called to be informed of this, nor was I called afterwards to reschedule. I ended up calling them, and they didn't even apologize for having wasted my time nor did they give an explanation. I rescheduled and once again, the day of they cancelled. They promised to call me back to reschedule but then never did. This placed is disorganized.

I want to give a higher rating, I really do. Our pets have been well taken care of here, for the most part. But they desperately need more front desk help. The last few visits we've had, I've waited in line (both to check in and pick up my pets) for a ridiculously long time. And when I've tried calling, I either get put on hold for forever or no one answers. It's enough to make me consider cancelling our wellness plans when our year is up. I need a place that is well staffed and values the time of their patient's humans. The other complaint is that it's almost impossible to get same day visits when needed. It might be time to start shopping for another vet...
