Well, I went to this place for the first time to get a free exam and before they seen my dog the lady was trying to charge me north of $600.00 and I'm like huh, For what? And she started rattling off a bunch of miscellaneous crap one being an anal expression! Now my PUPPY is 2 months old what the he'll does she need that for at that age I thought that was rather sick she was just trying to drum up all these charges because she thought she had a Victim I'm a man of color at the Torrance location so you can imagine how I was being treated, Long story longer my pup had some sort of skin issue that I was concerned about I've only had her for a couple of weeks and wanted to get her checked out to make sure there were no parasitic infestation occurring so initially she told me they had to take a skin sample and send it out to a lab and when I expressed i wanted to find out the day of she said they can look under a microscope after telling me it needed to be sent out (Just to add a charge on my bill) This place was never concerned about my baby they just cared about how much they can squeeze out of me (Dr. Andersen) is the culprit I'm speaking of, I can see the disdain in her face and the nasty attitude she had towards me all because I wasn't going for BS and going along with her program I just came for my free exam and a Vaccination anyhow after 4 hours of a nightmare i was finally able to get the he'll out of there I've since canceled my future appointments because I will never ever return to that location! But I must admit the receptionists were nice and polite also Dr. Silverman was very professional and explained everything thoroughly she was a real sweetheart, we had a nice chat i changed locations to another one in LA closer to me, and my puppy MASSCARA is doing great 馃憤 To be continued! i left out some parts to the story.

Welcome to Banfield Pet Hospital

Banfield Pet Hospital, located at 3855 Sepulveda Blvd, Torrance, CA 90505, USA, is part of a large national network of veterinary clinics operating under the "Pet Hospital" category. As a prominent chain, Banfield aims to provide standardized and accessible veterinary care to pet owners. Their business model often centers around their Optimum Wellness Plans (OWPs), which are designed to offer preventive care services on a subscription basis, aiming to make routine veterinary care more affordable and predictable for pet owners.

The environment at a Banfield Pet Hospital typically features a professional and standardized setup, consistent across its numerous locations. One can expect a modern and clean facility with a reception area, multiple examination rooms, and often dedicated areas for diagnostics, surgery, and hospitalization. The design is generally functional, aiming to streamline the flow of patients and staff. The location on Sepulveda Blvd in Torrance provides easy access for local residents, being a well-trafficked thoroughfare.

Banfield Pet Hospitals offer a wide range of veterinary services, typical of a comprehensive "Pet Hospital." These services generally include:

  • Preventive Care: This is a cornerstone of Banfield's offerings, often packaged within their Optimum Wellness Plans. It includes routine physical examinations, vaccinations against common diseases (such as rabies, distemper, parvovirus), and parasite control (e.g., flea, tick, and heartworm prevention). The emphasis is on proactive healthcare to prevent illnesses.
  • Diagnostic Services: Common diagnostics available usually include in-house laboratory testing for blood work (CBC, chemistry panels), urinalysis, and fecal examinations. Basic imaging like X-rays is also typically offered to diagnose various conditions, from skeletal issues to organ abnormalities.
  • Dental Care: Professional dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing, are provided to maintain oral hygiene and prevent periodontal disease. Tooth extractions may also be performed when necessary.
  • Surgical Procedures: Banfield clinics commonly perform routine surgeries such as spaying and neutering. Depending on the specific clinic's capabilities and staffing, they may also offer some soft tissue surgeries. Complex or specialized surgeries would generally be referred to a specialty veterinary surgeon.
  • General Medicine: Addressing common pet illnesses, allergies, skin conditions, and minor injuries falls under their general medicine services. They aim to provide initial diagnostics and treatment plans for a wide array of non-emergency medical issues.
  • Microchipping: A common service for pet identification and recovery in case a pet gets lost.
  • Nutritional Counseling: Advice on appropriate diets for pets based on their age, breed, and health status.

A key feature of Banfield Pet Hospitals is their emphasis on the Optimum Wellness Plans (OWPs). These plans are designed to provide a structured approach to preventive care, often including unlimited office visits, annual physical exams, vaccinations, and discounts on other services, all for a monthly fee. This model aims to encourage regular veterinary visits and early detection of health issues, promoting long-term pet health and potentially reducing unexpected healthcare costs for owners.

However, an objective introduction must also address customer experiences and perceptions, which can vary widely. While the concept of accessible care and wellness plans is appealing, some customer reviews for the Torrance location highlight specific concerns.

One review describes a negative experience during a first-time "free exam" visit for a 2-month-old puppy. The customer expressed frustration over an attempt to charge a significant amount (north of $600.00) for what they perceived as unnecessary procedures, including an "anal expression" for a puppy of that age, and a convoluted process for skin sample analysis. This indicates a potential concern about upselling or recommending services that customers feel are not immediately necessary or justified, particularly for new clients or young pets. The review also pointed to perceived unprofessionalism and a negative attitude from a specific veterinarian (Dr. Andersen), contrasting it with a positive interaction with another veterinarian (Dr. Silverman) and the receptionists. This suggests that while the overall corporate structure aims for standardization, individual experiences can be heavily influenced by specific staff members and their communication styles.

Another review detailed a serious concern regarding diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes. The customer repeatedly brought their cat for weeks without a conclusive diagnosis, ultimately spending a significant amount of money before seeking care elsewhere. The cat was subsequently diagnosed with sinus cancer by another veterinarian, leading to tragic outcomes and financial distress for the owner. This review raises concerns about the thoroughness of diagnostic processes and the effectiveness of treatment plans in complex cases, prompting pet owners to consider seeking second opinions if a condition persists or remains undiagnosed.

These reviews, while representing individual experiences, offer valuable insights into potential challenges. They suggest that while Banfield provides a broad range of services, clients may need to be proactive in questioning recommended treatments and costs, and potentially seek second opinions for complex or persistent health issues. The positive mention of receptionists and Dr. Silverman in one review also indicates that positive interactions and competent care can certainly be found within the facility.

Promotional information for Banfield Pet Hospital typically emphasizes their comprehensive care, the value of their Optimum Wellness Plans, and their commitment to preventive medicine. They often highlight convenience, their extensive network, and the expertise of their veterinary teams. Online presence, loyalty programs, and community engagement are also common promotional strategies for a large chain like Banfield. However, for local users, understanding the nuances of individual clinic experiences, as highlighted by reviews, becomes crucial for making an informed decision about their pet's care. Prospective clients are encouraged to utilize the provided contact information: phone (310) 316-0245 or mobile phone +1 310-316-0245, to discuss services, pricing, and specific concerns before committing to care at this "Pet Hospital" location.

Did not give me the correct information on my pet. Took her there several times for weeks and never got a result that would help my pet. Took my cat to another vet. After spending so much money my pet was diagnosed with Sinus cancer. Now I unfortunately have to sedate her and I am out of funds.

I took in my puppy for his neuter today and asked them to do x-rays as well due to him limping got 3 different quotes each one was different leading to a lot of confusion. I dropped him off at 730 and then had to call the vet to tell them that I cannot have the same medicine that was given last time due to a reaction of diarrhea after this I was on hold for 5 minutes and she told me to pick him up at 430. When I got there I waited in line for 10 minutes and then was placed into a room for 30 minutes waiting for the dr to talk about the medication and x-rays after this another person came in to give me the medication then after this another person came and bought me my puppy and said bye have a good rest of your day. At this point I did not receive a copy of blood work, copy of x-rays, or a given day of when to come back for a follow up appointment. When told I could leave I didn鈥檛 even pay yet, I then waited in the lobby at the desk for another 10 minutes with my puppy and his giant cone. Finally someone came to the desk and helped a lady next to me and then I said I needed to pay and she said someone else will help you and walked away. Terrible service and so inconsiderate given the situation with my puppy out of anesthesia and with a giant cone on his head. Will not be going back to this location.

Big Corp. Bullshit... all about money and quantity. The ONLY quality this place has is Diane (front desk/Admin). She even had more empathy than the entire clinal staff when my cattle dog passed away. I booked an 'in office' appointment for today, WITH the Vet... and did NOT see, nor even speak with said Dr. regarding my feline's annual exam.. and you charged me 90 friggin dollars just for that 'office visit'... I'll be waiting for that refund. NEVER AGAIN!
