Welcome to Banfield Pet Hospital
Welcome to Banfield Pet Hospital, located at 123 Samoset St in Plymouth, Massachusetts. As part of a nationwide network of Pet Hospitals, Banfield aims to provide comprehensive veterinary care for your beloved pets. While specific details about the Plymouth location's environment are not extensively described in the provided information, Banfield Pet Hospitals generally strive to offer a clean and welcoming atmosphere for both pets and their owners. You can typically expect designated waiting areas, examination rooms equipped for pet care, and potentially on-site facilities for diagnostics and treatments.
Banfield Pet Hospital offers a range of veterinary services designed to address various aspects of your pet's health and well-being. Based on the available information and general knowledge of Banfield's services, these typically include:
Preventative Care: This is a cornerstone of Banfield's approach, often emphasized through their wellness plans. Preventative care includes routine check-ups, vaccinations tailored to your pet's needs (as highlighted in one positive review where a 6-month-old Yorkie received a check-up and vaccinations), parasite control (for fleas, ticks, and heartworms), and nutritional counseling.
Wellness Plans: Banfield is widely known for its various wellness plans, which are designed to make routine veterinary care more affordable through monthly payments. These plans often cover services like annual check-ups, core vaccinations, deworming, and certain diagnostic tests. However, one of the provided reviews expresses significant disappointment with the "wellness plus plan," indicating potential issues with coverage or perceived pressure for additional, out-of-pocket expenses when a pet becomes ill.
Diagnostic Services: To diagnose illnesses and injuries, Banfield Pet Hospitals typically offer a range of diagnostic capabilities, which may include laboratory services (blood tests, urinalysis, fecal exams) and imaging technologies (such as X-rays). One negative review mentions the clinic's inclination to run tests when a pet is sick, which the customer felt were presented as "needed" and costly, even with a wellness plan.
Medical Treatment: Banfield's veterinarians provide medical treatment for a variety of illnesses and injuries affecting pets. This includes prescribing medications, administering therapies, and offering supportive care. However, one customer reported being "continuously pushed to urgent care" for a puppy with diarrhea, despite having a wellness plan, raising concerns about the in-house treatment options or the interpretation of plan coverage.
Surgical Services: While not explicitly mentioned in the reviews, Banfield Pet Hospitals generally offer common surgical procedures such as spaying and neutering. More complex surgical cases might be referred to specialists.
Other Services: Depending on the location, Banfield may also offer services like dental care, microchipping, and nutritional counseling.
A key feature of Banfield Pet Hospital is its wellness plan program, intended to provide a proactive and budget-friendly approach to pet care. The positive review mentions reasonable billing for a check-up and vaccinations, suggesting that routine services outside of urgent situations can be satisfactory. However, the negative feedback regarding the wellness plan raises concerns about its effectiveness and cost-effectiveness when a pet requires treatment for illness. The customer felt that the plan did not adequately cover the necessary diagnostics and care, leading to unexpected out-of-pocket expenses and a feeling of not being taken seriously.
Another potential feature, common in larger veterinary networks, could be standardized protocols and access to a broader knowledge base. However, the negative review about understaffing leading to appointment cancellations ("We had an appointment and were told we would be canceled because of understaffing. When asked why us it was told because we were booked last.") suggests that operational challenges can impact service delivery and client experience.
The positive review highlights the friendly and helpful staff who were able to answer questions and provided care at a reasonable cost for a routine check-up and vaccinations. This indicates that positive experiences can occur, particularly for straightforward preventative care.
Conversely, the negative review points to significant issues with service when a pet is sick, particularly for clients enrolled in the wellness plan. The feeling of being pushed towards more expensive urgent care options and the perceived emphasis on running additional tests raise concerns about the value and transparency of the wellness plan in such situations. The cancellation of an appointment due to understaffing, especially for a client with a pre-paid wellness plan, further detracts from the overall service experience.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information provided for the Banfield Pet Hospital in Plymouth, MA. For local users in Plymouth, Massachusetts, Banfield Pet Hospital at 123 Samoset St offers a convenient location for veterinary care. While one customer reported a positive experience with routine preventative care and reasonable costs, another expressed significant dissatisfaction with the service and the value of the wellness plan when their puppy was sick. Potential clients should carefully consider their pet's healthcare needs and discuss the specifics of the wellness plans and the clinic's approach to handling illnesses with the Banfield team. It is advisable to ask detailed questions about what is covered under the wellness plans and the potential out-of-pocket costs for various scenarios.
In conclusion, Banfield Pet Hospital in Plymouth, MA, provides a range of veterinary services, with a strong emphasis on preventative care through their wellness plans. While some clients have reported positive experiences with routine care and friendly staff, others have expressed concerns about service quality, the value of the wellness plans when pets are sick, and operational issues like understaffing leading to appointment cancellations. Local pet owners should weigh these factors and consider contacting the hospital directly for more information and to discuss their individual needs before making a decision about their pet's care.

May 15, 2025 · Debbie buckmanDisappointed with the service provided. We pay for the wellness plus plan and needed our puppy to be seen because she was having diarrhea. We explained our situation was continuously pushed to urgent care which is all out of pocket. We had an appointment and were told we would be canceled because of understaffing. When asked why us it was told because we were booked last. Well why are we left out when we pay for a wellness plan. I feel as though we weren’t taken seriously but pushed in a way that would cost us more by going to urgent care. I also feel as though the services provided in the plan when your dog gets sick would normally be covered but banfield instantly wants to run tests that are “needed”just so you can spend more. This plan is supposed to be a way to help people with there dogs expense not create additional problems. We just wanted to know what was causing the bowel movements. Nothing too complicated. Don’t recommend this plan, extremely disappointed.
May 23, 2025 · Ian BlanchardAmazing experience! Thank you Dr. Robert’s and Olivia❤️ My 17 yr. Old cat hadn’t eaten or drank in 3 days. I called around for euthanasia. I was blessed to find Banfield. They gave me a beautiful space; candles, landscape portraits, and a calming background sound that relaxed my cat and me. I was able to hold my cat on my lap on top of a perfect sized pillow. The procedure was relaxing and the empathy of all the staff was heart warming. My vet was too booked up. Thank you for offering a very reasonable price and making me feel welcome❤️
Jan 12, 2025 · Lisa ZoebischToday was disappointing. I walked in the door and was told my appointment was earlier than it was so I had to reschedule. I showed them they were wrong and they told me because I was 6 minutes late instead of 5 I still had to reschedule "because it's a 10 minute appointment". Why, when we sit there for 15 minutes to be seen anyway? Absolutely ridiculous. I will be calling my insurance to dispute charges if this appointment is ran through.
Apr 17, 2025 · Shannon Murphy-BrierHighly do not recommend. Our dog was on the plan and went in 5+ times over a few months for the same issue. They had every suggestion about food/ allergies/ environment, over and over again. Perscribed everything. (And gave us expired medication). They put him on every drug in the book but did not discuss other possibilities, suggest or do a simple rudimentary test that is actually the **first thing listed in the wellness plan** to identify the issue and he went through months of suffering & many visits. It could have all been avoided if they cared to do their job at all. Naively we trusted the vets for too long. When we eventually brought him for a second opinion it took them less than 30 seconds to identify the issue and resolve it.
