Star, our 14 year old cat had her annual wellness exam ( including dental cleaning ) on 04-25-25. She has been seen at Banfield of Wilmington NC since she was rescued at 4 1/2 weeks old. All of the staff from scheduling her appointment to check in & through the process was excellent. Although this has always been a very busy pet hospital…this team was adept, kind, very skilled & knowledgeable. They have a difficult job with sick & injured animals, so I am grateful for their services. She had a great 48 hour recovery, wasn’t hiding or complaining! Thank you so very much!

I have a very nervous pit mix Willow and vet assistant Leah was absolutely INCREDIBLE with her, she was so gentle and kind, she held her and gave her kisses through all of her shots. I cannot express how phenomenal she was. Vet Hansen was amazing as well, she explained everything in detail and answered every question we had, made us feel at ease and was very gentle with all of Willow's shots. Willow left a very happy girl and was excited to have made some new friends at Banfield. Thank you guys." They also offer nutritional counseling and behavioral evaluations to support overall pet health.

This includes in-house laboratory diagnostics for quick results on blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams, as well as digital radiography (X-rays) for examining internal body systems and dental digital X-rays to assess oral health below the gumline.
**Surgical Procedures:** The hospital performs standard surgical services, including routine spaying and neutering, which are crucial for population control and preventing certain health issues. They also offer general soft tissue surgery, emphasizing patient safety with careful anesthesia monitoring and pain management.
**Dental Care:** Good oral hygiene is vital for a pet's overall health. Banfield provides professional dental cleanings and can perform dental extractions and other oral surgical procedures to address periodontal disease and other dental issues.

**End-of-Life Services:** Understanding the emotional difficulty of saying goodbye, Banfield offers compassionate end-of-life care, including euthanasia services, to ensure a peaceful passing for pets.
**Additional Services:** These may include medical grooming, and for diverse clientele, foreign language and ASL interpretation services are available to ensure clear communication.
Several features make Banfield Pet Hospital a distinct choice for pet owners in Wilmington:
**Optimum Wellness Plans® (OWPs):** One of Banfield's signature offerings, OWPs are affordable, customizable packages of preventive pet care services. These plans typically include unlimited office visits, comprehensive annual exams, routinely recommended vaccinations, diagnostic testing (like blood work and fecal exams), and often discounts on other services not covered by the plan. They are designed to help pet owners proactively manage their pet's health and budget their veterinary expenses with monthly or annual payments. This proactive approach aims to catch potential health issues early, leading to better outcomes and often lower overall costs.
**Convenience and Accessibility:** With its strategic location, extended hours (including weekends), and often walk-in friendly policies (though appointments are recommended), Banfield aims to make veterinary care as convenient as possible for busy pet owners. The integration within a larger retail environment like PetSmart further enhances this convenience.
**Nationwide Network:** As part of a larger national network of Banfield Pet Hospitals, pets enrolled in an OWP can often receive care at any Banfield location across the country, which is a significant advantage for pet owners who travel or relocate.
**Dedicated and Caring Staff:** The recurring theme in customer reviews is the compassionate and skilled nature of the veterinary assistants and veterinarians. Their ability to handle nervous animals with gentleness and to communicate effectively with pet owners creates a reassuring experience.
**Virtual Petcare Options:** With an OWP, clients often have access to virtual services like Virtual Visits with their local Banfield team and 24/7 Vet Chat™ with a real veterinary professional, offering immediate advice and peace of mind from home.
Banfield Pet Hospital frequently promotes its **Optimum Wellness Plans®** as the primary way for pet owners to save on preventive care, often touting savings of over 30% compared to paying for services individually. They offer various OWP packages tailored for puppies, kittens, adult dogs, and adult cats, designed to meet different life stages and health needs.
Specific, real-time promotions beyond the OWPs might vary and are best confirmed by contacting the hospital directly. However, they may offer discounts on initial office visits for new clients or seasonal promotions on specific services. The Banfield website and mobile app are also valuable resources for accessing pet medical records, appointment information, and virtual services, as well as staying updated on any current offers.

Feb 12, 2025 · Lily SchappellAfter having more than one unpleasant encounter with Banfield I’ve decided to find another vet. My dog had undergone a hernia repair surgery and despite wearing his cone, he developed an infection - which isn’t the issue as things happen. I called and was told to come in at 4pm, so I arrive and was not brought back until 4:30pm (again not an issue, I understand the busy schedule) where I essentially was told I’m going to have to come back the next day because they are closing at 5pm and cannot look well enough into his infected incision. I was never once seen by the vet, only the vet tech who had no answers to any of the questions I asked other than, “I don’t know”. I was told there was dead tissue and a hole around his incision, yet I’m supposed to wait and come back the next day because you’re closing? I’m frustrated with the lack of answers/explanations from this institution and feel as if they care more about generating revenue and their closing hours. Unless your puppy just needs shots, I wouldn’t go here.
May 09, 2025 · Alyssa BoucherWhen I first joined the Banfield family, Dr. Evans was my babies doctor. The love and care she showed was beyond belief. When she left I was devastated because I would have to put the care of my babies into someone else's hands but Dr. Alford with her incredible team at Banfield Wilmington surpassed my expectations. Having someone that cares for my babies in the same way that I do and actually listens to me when I have concerns or questions, means the world to me. The incredible team at Banfield Wilmington loves what they do and it shows with the care they give to everyone.
