In the summer of 2022, I brought my dog Leo for his annual dental cleaning. He had perfect health and was vibrant. After the cleaning, Leo came home with a raspy cough. I was told that this was because of the tube they had to place in his throat/ trachea for breathing while they did the procedure. After a few weeks, the cough continued to get worse. They took X-Rays and told me he had a “ Collapsed trachea”. They never took responsibility for what happened. He never had the cough prior to to the cleaning. He was never the same after that. This was a direct result of the medical malpractice during the dental procedure. My dog passed away from this condition March of last year. Had I not brought him for a cleaning at Banfield, Leo would have never developed the condition, and would still be alive today. I will never forget this heartbreaking experience.

Banfield Pet Hospital Introduce

Banfield Pet Hospital in Plainville, CT, located at 275 New Britain Ave Suite B1, serves as a local option for pet owners seeking veterinary services. As a “Pet Hospital” category platform, Banfield aims to provide a range of healthcare options for cats and dogs, from routine check-ups to more specific medical procedures.

Environment and Facilities

While specific details about the interior aesthetics of the Plainville location are not extensively publicized, Banfield Pet Hospitals generally strive to maintain a clean and functional environment designed to accommodate pets and their owners. The clinics are typically equipped with examination rooms, a reception area, and often, areas for surgical procedures, diagnostic imaging, and laboratory work. The overall design prioritizes efficiency in handling patient flow and providing a sterile environment for medical procedures. The goal is to create a welcoming atmosphere that can help alleviate some of the stress pets and their owners may experience during veterinary visits. Accessibility for pet carriers and individuals with varying mobility is usually considered in the design of these facilities.

Services Offered

Banfield Pet Hospital offers a comprehensive suite of veterinary services, focusing on preventive care as a cornerstone of pet health. These services typically include:

  • Preventive Care: This is a major emphasis for Banfield. They offer Optimum Wellness Plans® (OWP) which are year-long packages of unlimited office visits, routine vaccinations, early disease screenings, and discounts on other Banfield services. These plans are designed to make regular veterinary care more accessible and affordable, promoting proactive health management rather than reactive treatment.

  • Routine Examinations and Vaccinations: Regular wellness exams are crucial for early detection of potential health issues. Banfield provides thorough physical examinations, along with administering necessary vaccinations to protect pets from common diseases.

  • Dental Care: Dental health is a significant aspect of a pet's overall well-being. Services include dental cleanings, extractions, and assessments for periodontal disease. These procedures often require anesthesia, and the hospital aims to provide a safe environment for such interventions.

  • Diagnostic Services: To aid in accurate diagnoses, Banfield typically provides in-house laboratory services for blood work, urinalysis, and fecal tests. They also offer imaging services such as X-rays, which are essential for diagnosing conditions ranging from bone fractures to internal organ issues.

  • Surgical Procedures: Common surgical procedures, including spaying and neutering, soft tissue surgeries, and minor orthopedic procedures, are generally available. All surgeries are performed with appropriate anesthesia monitoring and pain management protocols.

  • Parasite Control: Advice and treatments for flea, tick, heartworm, and other internal and external parasites are routinely offered to protect pets from these common health threats.

  • Nutritional Counseling: Veterinarians and veterinary technicians can provide guidance on appropriate diets for pets of all ages and health conditions, addressing concerns such as weight management, allergies, and specific dietary needs.

  • Microchipping: For pet identification and reunification purposes, microchipping services are available, offering peace of mind to pet owners in case a pet goes missing.

Features and Approach

One of Banfield's distinguishing features is its emphasis on the Optimum Wellness Plans®. This membership-based model aims to encourage consistent, proactive veterinary care throughout a pet's life. The rationale behind these plans is that regular preventive care can lead to better long-term health outcomes and potentially reduce the incidence of serious illnesses. The continuity of care under these plans also allows Banfield veterinarians to develop a more thorough understanding of a pet’s health history. Banfield also leverages technology, often utilizing electronic medical records to ensure consistent care across their widespread network of hospitals. Their national presence means that pet owners traveling with their pets may be able to access their pet’s records and receive care at other Banfield locations.

Promotional Information

Banfield Pet Hospital frequently promotes its Optimum Wellness Plans® as the primary way to manage pet healthcare costs and ensure consistent care. They often highlight the benefits of unlimited office visits, preventive screenings, and discounts on other services. New clients might find introductory offers for wellness plans or initial examinations. Banfield also emphasizes their commitment to pet well-being and the importance of preventive medicine in extending the healthy lives of pets. Information about specific promotions or new services can typically be found on their official website or by contacting the Plainville location directly at (860) 747-0011 or +1 860-747-0011.

Customer Experiences and Considerations

While Banfield aims to provide standardized and quality care, customer experiences can vary, as is often the case with any large service provider. Online reviews for the Plainville location, like many veterinary practices, reflect a range of experiences. Some pet owners report positive interactions, appreciating the convenience, the wellness plans, and the care provided by the veterinary staff. They may highlight the professional demeanor of the veterinarians and technicians, and the perceived benefits of the preventive care model.

However, it is important for prospective clients to be aware of other perspectives. For example, some feedback points to concerns about the quality of specific procedures or perceived lapses in communication. One customer described a deeply distressing experience where their dog developed a "Collapsed trachea" following a dental cleaning, which they attributed to the procedure itself, ultimately leading to the dog's passing. This individual expressed strong dissatisfaction, feeling that the hospital did not take responsibility for the outcome and that their dog's health significantly declined after the visit. Another review highlighted repeated issues with specific requests not being met, such as anal gland expression for their dog, leading to discomfort for the pet and frustration for the owner. This reviewer even suggested an alternative veterinary office in a different town, implying a preference for the care received elsewhere. These examples underscore the importance of individual pet owner experiences and the need for clear communication and adherence to specific client requests. Prospective clients are encouraged to consider these varied experiences, perhaps by visiting the facility, asking questions, and discussing their specific concerns with the staff, to determine if Banfield Pet Hospital aligns with their expectations for their pet's care.

I don’t normally write reviews but I’m mad right now. My first request regarding every appointment for my dogs is having their anal glands expressed. It’s obvious they didn’t adhere to my request because my dog is miserable, scooting nonstop and whining in discomfort. This is the 2nd time this has happened. Take your dogs to Glastonbury instead. Dr. Benedict actually cares about her patients & makes sure everything is done to benefit their wellbeing. The extra miles are worth it. Never again with this office.

Today was one of the saddest and hardest days of life, I had to put my dog down of 14 years. The staff and doctor were incredible kind and compassionate. They did not rush the process or me and they were so gentle with my baby girl, Daisy!❤️ Thank you for your kindness

I notice my cat having issues urinating. I take him to banfield for check up and have test run on him. $250.00 later they tell me he’s fine and urine has no issues. Not even a week later my cat is at the ER and now have a $3000+ bill for urine problems. Branfield didn’t give me medicine since they said he was “ ok”. I don’t think they did any test and just charged me for them, considering the vet at the hospital said clearly there was build up. I’ll never use this banfield vet ever again and am now in the process of trying to get that money back. But we all know how that goes!
