I went to Banfield for three consecutive days trying to figure out what was wrong with my cat. After an x-ray and determining her abdomen was swollen they referred me to Blue Pearl whose care my baby is still under. I just want to say that the care at Banfield was wonderful. The staff is great and Nicholas at the front desk is totally awesome and I cannot say enough about him. Thank you, Banfield for treating my baby with such love and care!!!!!

Environment and Atmosphere:

The environment at Banfield Pet Hospital locations generally aims for a professional, clean, and welcoming atmosphere. Reviews for this specific location indicate a positive experience, with clients describing the staff as "great" and individual team members like "Nicholas at the front desk" as "totally awesome." This suggests a friendly and helpful front-line team, which is crucial for setting a positive tone for a veterinary visit. The commitment to treating pets with "such love and care" points to an empathetic approach from the staff, even when dealing with complex or stressful situations for pets and their owners. While the overall Banfield model emphasizes efficiency and standardized care, the individual staff members at this Pittsburgh location appear to deliver it with warmth and compassion. However, one review highlighted a potential issue with inconsistent operating hours or communication regarding them, noting difficulty reaching the clinic when advertised as open, which could lead to frustration for some pet owners.

Services Offered:

Banfield Pet Hospital operates as a full-service veterinary facility that places a strong emphasis on preventative care. Their services are designed to support the well-being of pets through various stages of life. Common services offered at Banfield locations, including this one, typically include:

  • Routine Wellness Exams: Regular check-ups are central to their philosophy, focusing on early detection and prevention of health issues.
  • Vaccinations: Providing all necessary core and lifestyle-dependent vaccinations for dogs and cats to protect against common diseases.
  • Preventative Care: This includes parasite control (flea, tick, and heartworm prevention), nutritional counseling, and behavioral advice to promote overall health.
  • Diagnostic Services: The hospital is equipped to perform various diagnostics such as X-rays (as noted in the review for a cat's swollen abdomen), in-house laboratory tests (blood work, urinalysis, fecal exams), and other diagnostic imaging.
  • Dental Care: Comprehensive dental services are offered, including teeth cleaning, polishing, and necessary extractions, crucial for a pet's overall health.
  • Surgical Procedures: Common surgeries such as spaying, neutering, and other soft tissue surgeries are typically performed. They have a full-service medical facility equipped for various procedures.
  • Microchipping: A standard service for pet identification to aid in reuniting lost pets with their owners.
  • Limited Emergency/Urgent Care: While they handle some urgent cases, for complex or critical emergencies, Banfield often refers patients to specialized emergency veterinary hospitals (like Blue Pearl, as mentioned in a review), indicating a collaborative approach to comprehensive care.
  • Optimum Wellness Plans®: A key offering that provides affordable packages of preventative care, including unlimited office visits, vaccinations, and other routine services for a monthly fee. These plans are designed to make high-quality preventative care more accessible and manageable for pet owners.
  • End-of-Life Care: Providing compassionate support and services during a pet's final stages of life.
Features that Stand Out:

Several features distinguish Banfield Pet Hospital, particularly the North Fayette Township location, and contribute to its identity as a "Pet Hospital":

  • Emphasis on Preventative Care via Optimum Wellness Plans®: This is a cornerstone of Banfield's model. These subscription-based plans make routine and preventative care more affordable and encourage regular veterinary visits, which can lead to early detection of health issues.
  • Large Network and Standardized Care: As part of a national chain with over 1,000 locations, Banfield aims to provide a consistent level of care across its hospitals. This also means that pet records are often accessible across different Banfield locations, which can be convenient for clients who travel.
  • Compassionate and Dedicated Staff: Despite being a large corporate entity, the reviews consistently highlight the individual staff members' commitment to "love and care" for pets. The mention of "Nicholas at the front desk" as "totally awesome" indicates strong positive client interactions.
  • Referral System for Complex Cases: The willingness and ability to refer complex or critical cases to specialty emergency hospitals like Blue Pearl demonstrates a responsible approach to veterinary medicine, ensuring pets receive the most appropriate and advanced care when needed.
  • Convenient Location: Many Banfield locations are situated within PetSmart stores, making it convenient for pet owners to combine their pet's veterinary visit with shopping for supplies. (While not explicitly stated for this address, it is a common Banfield model.)

However, it is important to address the concern raised about inconsistent operating hours. While Banfield's website typically lists standard hours, the review points to a potential discrepancy between advertised hours and actual availability, which could affect reliability for urgent needs.

This location is good when they are open but it’s hard finding a time when they are open. Tried calling at 4:40 with a question about my dog and they were closed even though the website says they close at 6. I called another Banfield but they can’t help me because my dog isn’t seen there. Not reliable when you need them.

my dog oakley was really sick and we weren’t sure what was going on. she’s only 9 months, so it was scary to see her like that. we have been searching high and low for a vet that we can say we fully trust with her health and after our visit to banfield we can say that we have. thanks to the care at their office and their ability to see us back to back days she is doing much better and leaps and bounds closer to her normal self. we cannot recommend them enough!! i used to think vet plans similar to theirs wasn’t worth it but i can say the money is well spent! highly recommend this office.

I am most grateful to the staff at Banfield in Robinson for their compassionate care of my cats. They diagnosed my 13 year old companion with a rare form of terminal cancer. Everything was explained to me and they took loving care of my cat. My most sincere Thank You from Mikey!
