Welcome to Banfield Pet Hospital

Welcome to Banfield Pet Hospital, located at 1276 Carmia Way, North Chesterfield, VA 23235, USA. As a 'Pet Hospital', we aim to be your partner in ensuring the lifelong health and well-being of your beloved pets. Banfield Pet Hospital is a well-known chain of veterinary clinics across the United States, suggesting a standardized approach to pet care with a focus on accessible and comprehensive services. While the provided reviews offer a glimpse into the experiences of some pet owners at this specific location, it's important to consider both the positive and negative feedback to form a balanced understanding.

One customer shared a delightful experience with a staff member named Kenny, who cared for their "fur baby" Tupac. They mentioned, "Kenny took care of my Fur baby “Tupac”, Kenny even wrote his progress notes in Tupac songs🤭 we love Kenny!!!! She said “Dear Momma, all eyes were on me… very cute." This positive feedback highlights the personalized and caring approach of some of the staff at this Banfield location, suggesting a warm and engaging interaction that goes beyond standard veterinary care. The creativity in the progress notes indicates a team member who takes the time to connect with pet owners in a unique and memorable way.

However, another customer shared a deeply concerning and heartbreaking experience. They brought their dog in for a comprehensive exam and later contacted the clinic when their dog wasn't acting normal. According to their account, they were not able to speak directly with a veterinarian and were told by the receptionist that their dog was fine based on normal blood work. Tragically, their dog later collapsed and was diagnosed with a cancerous mass with internal bleeding at an emergency vet, leading to the difficult decision to euthanize. This pet owner recounted having a nurse sister review the Banfield labs, who allegedly identified signs of low white blood cell count and anemia, potentially indicating cancer and bleeding, two weeks prior. The reviewer expressed their distress over the perceived missed signs and the lack of direct communication with a veterinarian following their initial concerns. They stated, "How am I paying $60 a month for the veterinarian to miss something like that? I could’ve had time to prepare myself for my baby to be potentially dying but instead was advised incorrectly and had to make a rash decision to put him down so that he won’t suffer... I called for an explanation and again a veterinarian did not make themselves available for communication. I would not recommend going here and I am going to regret it forever." This detailed negative review raises serious concerns about the thoroughness of the examination, the interpretation of lab results, and the communication protocols at this specific location.

Given these contrasting experiences, it's challenging to definitively describe the environment, typical services, and features of this Banfield Pet Hospital location based solely on these two reviews. However, we can infer some aspects:

  • Range of Services: As a Banfield Pet Hospital, they likely offer a variety of services including comprehensive exams, blood work, and potentially surgical procedures (as implied by the mention of a comprehensive exam).
  • Wellness Plans: The mention of paying "$60 a month" suggests the availability of wellness plans, which are a common offering at Banfield locations, providing routine care at a fixed monthly cost.
  • Variable Experiences: Customer experiences can vary significantly, as seen in the two contrasting reviews regarding staff engagement and the thoroughness of medical assessment and communication.

As a national chain, Banfield Pet Hospitals often emphasize preventive care through their wellness plans. These plans typically cover routine check-ups, vaccinations, and other preventative measures, aiming to make veterinary care more accessible and predictable in cost. However, the negative review highlights the critical importance of accurate diagnosis and effective communication, especially when pet owners have concerns about their animal's health.

I brought my dog to the Carmia Way location in Chesterfield, VA for a comprehensive exam…I don’t usually go to that location but I needed him in quickly because I believed he consumed something he wasn’t supposed to and he was already due to come in anyway. After his appointment March 15th he wasn’t acting normal and I called back to advise the vet and they wouldn’t even speak to me directly, they spoke through their receptionist and told me he was fine his blood work was normal and to monitor him for a few days at home and bring him in if he isn’t getting better. Well he seemed to be getting better but I still sensed a sadness with him until March 28th He was drinking a lot of water and collapsed with labored breathing and vomiting and even stopped walking. I take him to the emergency vet and he ended up having a cancerous mass that caused internal bleeding. I had to put my baby down with no warning and no time to mentally prepare. I have my sister who is a nurse review his labs from Banfield and they said it read his white bloods cells were low and he had anemia signs for possible cancer and potential bleeding 2 weeks prior. How am I paying $60 a month for the veterinarian to miss something like that? I could’ve had time to prepare myself for my baby to be potentially dying but instead was advised incorrectly and had to make a rash decision to put him down so that he won’t suffer. I had him for 9 years since he was 9 weeks old…this has been devastating I called for an explanation and again a veterinarian did not make themselves available for communication. I would not recommend going here and I am going to regret it forever.

The staff here is fantastic and they are always quick and thorough with diagnostics and sharing of information. I can tell that they care deeply for my pet. However, I am very dissatisfied with scheduling emergency, or sick pet appointments. They clearly do not reserve any time on the schedule for last minute illness appointments, and because of this, my dogs life could have been at risk. We called first thing in the morning to make an appointment because overnight she was having shallow breathing, was lethargic, seemed to have a fever, and was refusing to eat. She was barely mobile. The staff said that their first opening was in 2 weeks and that they could not see her. Mind you, we are members of the wellness plan and receive a discount on services at Banfield, but we were instead forced to take her to an emergency pet hospital outside of Banfield. $2000 later and we found out she has pneumonia. It’s absolutely unacceptable that when hearing the symptoms my dog was having, the vet could not see her that day, or even week. Especially as a member of the wellness plan. A couple of weeks later, she appeared to have an eye infection as it was very red and swollen and was producing abnormal discharge. I called again, and was told that they could not see her for a week. After a lot of back and forth with an employee who ultimately was very kind and was trying her best to help, we were able to get her scheduled 3 days out. Much better than a week, but still not great. The staff was again great with her when we took her in for her appointment. It’s important to know that the staff is always attentive and does their best to help us. But it is clear that appointment time slots are not set aside for situations like this, and conditions such as the ones my dog had recently should not be made to wait a week or more without being looked at. Pneumonia is deathly, and eye infections can get significantly worse and spread. Our animals cannot advocate for themselves, so we clearly do not know how much pain they are in or how they are really feeling when things like this occur, making it a terrifying experience for pet owners. I would give this location 5 stars if they prioritized illness and injury appointments on their schedule. I truly hope that this is considered for my pet and any other pets that are members here. We do not plan on renewing our membership next year when the time comes and will be finding a vet who makes sure that our sick pet is taken care of in a timely manner.

I love bringing my 4 babies to see Dr.Lucas. But if she isn't there they would see Dr.Enge. They both are really good and they really care about there patients. Daisy, one of my female dogs was fixed and had hernia a few months ago and know she is doing very well. Like nothing was ever wrong with her. The lady's at the front desk know me by first name and I love that about them, very friendly.
