Dr Katie Ball is the best. If not for her timely response I'd most likely be burying my horse. I had a true emergency after my horse impaled himself on a metal post. She got him all stitched up, bleeding stopped. His recovery is coming along. I'm glad to have her as my large animal vet after my long time vet service dropped about half their clients. Dr Katie Rocks!

Welcome to Ball Katie J DVM

Ball Katie J DVM, located at 2879 Ball Rd, Cassadaga, NY 14718, USA, operates as a veterinary care provider, functioning within the broader category of a "Pet Hospital," although with a notable specialization. The clinic can be reached at (716) 679-7900 or via mobile at +1 716-679-7900. While the term "Pet Hospital" often conjures images of small animal clinics for dogs and cats, the available customer reviews strongly indicate that Dr. Katie Ball primarily focuses on large animal veterinary care, particularly equine services, and emergency response for such animals. This specialization positions her practice as a crucial resource for horse owners and potentially other livestock owners in the Cassadaga, NY area.

The environment of a large animal veterinary practice like Ball Katie J DVM differs significantly from a typical small animal clinic. Instead of a fixed hospital building where animals are brought in, large animal vets often operate on a mobile basis, traveling to farms and stables to provide care. This means the "environment" is less about a static facility and more about the equipped mobile unit and the on-site conditions at the client's location. A well-prepared large animal vet's vehicle would contain essential medical supplies, diagnostic equipment, and tools necessary for field examinations, treatments, and emergency procedures. The emphasis is on adaptability and providing care where the animals reside, minimizing the stress of transport for large, often injured or ill, animals.

Based on the provided customer feedback, the services offered by Ball Katie J DVM prominently include:

  • Emergency Response for Large Animals: A key feature highlighted is Dr. Ball's ability to provide timely and critical care during true emergencies. The review mentioning a horse impaling itself on a metal post and Dr. Ball's immediate action to stitch the wound and stop bleeding underscores her capacity for urgent, life-saving interventions in challenging field conditions. This suggests proficiency in managing trauma, severe injuries, and other acute conditions common in large animals.

  • Equine Veterinary Care: The specific mention of treating a horse indicates a strong focus on equine health. This would typically encompass a range of services for horses, including:

    • Preventive Care: Routine vaccinations, deworming protocols, and dental care (floating teeth).

    • Diagnostic Services: Field examinations, lameness evaluations, basic on-site diagnostics (e.g., blood draws for laboratory testing, rudimentary imaging if mobile units are equipped).

    • Medical Treatment: Managing common equine diseases, colics, respiratory issues, and other medical conditions.

    • Wound Care: As demonstrated in the review, expertise in treating and stitching large wounds, managing bleeding, and overseeing recovery.

  • Post-Emergency Recovery Support: The follow-up care indicated by "His recovery is coming along" suggests ongoing support and guidance for the healing process after critical interventions.

The defining feature of Dr. Katie Ball's practice, as per the positive review, is her exceptional emergency responsiveness and competence in critical large animal situations. The client's strong affirmation, "Dr Katie Rocks!", and the statement "If not for her timely response I'd most likely be burying my horse," emphasize her life-saving capabilities and the high level of trust she garners from clients facing dire circumstances. This indicates not only medical skill but also dedication and a willingness to act quickly when needed most. Her role as a "large animal vet after my long time vet service dropped about half their clients" further suggests that she is filling a vital niche and is highly sought after by owners of large animals who may have limited options for specialized care.

However, it is crucial to present an objective view, and another review highlights a significant concern regarding communication and client interaction. This review describes an instance where, after Dr. Ball initially said she would get back to the client, a lengthy delay occurred. When the client secured another vet and informed Dr. Ball, she allegedly responded by saying she was "done with me" and felt her time was "wasted." This feedback points to potential issues with professional communication, client management, and perhaps a lack of transparency or empathy in certain situations. While the first review praises her emergency response, the second suggests that her service delivery in less critical, but still important, logistical situations might be inconsistent or lead to negative client experiences. This contrast indicates that while her medical expertise in emergencies is highly valued, clients might experience different levels of service depending on the circumstances of the interaction.

Due to the nature of a specialized, likely mobile, large animal veterinary practice, specific promotional information like fixed discounts or wellness plan packages, common in small animal clinics, are less commonly publicized. Large animal vets often build their client base through direct referrals, their reputation for handling critical cases, and word-of-mouth within the agricultural and equine communities. Any promotional activities would likely be communicated directly to existing or potential clients within her service area, rather than through widespread public announcements. Therefore, without direct information from Dr. Ball's official channels, details on promotions cannot be provided.

In conclusion, Ball Katie J DVM, located at 2879 Ball Rd, Cassadaga, NY, primarily serves as a "Pet Hospital" specializing in large animal, particularly equine, veterinary care. Dr. Katie Ball is highly lauded for her timely and effective emergency responses, particularly in life-threatening situations for horses, demonstrating significant skill and dedication in critical field care. However, prospective clients should be aware of reported concerns regarding communication and client management, which suggest that while her medical expertise in emergencies is strong, her general client interactions might be perceived differently. Her practice is a vital resource for large animal owners in the region, filling a niche for specialized care.

Heard many poor things about this vet but had to call her as a last resort. She said she would get back to me and after 3 hours after not hearing another bet said they would come so I informed her of this and she told me she was “done with me” and how I had wasted her time. This was the wound.

Dr. Katie is amazing. She shared very important information with me on how to care for my horses. She is a great positive person to be around. Her knowledge and experience is so helpful.

Really bummed out over the experience I had with her. I reached out last night about my horse being hurt and left a voicemail. Being that I have extremely bad anxiety my message was shaky and I didn’t know what to do. Was hoping in having her out to help give me a second opinion. After speaking with my family we called her back as I had missed her call back the night prior after going into bed after leaving a message. Expecting for a call back the next day. However, I missed her call back, not realizing until the following day. My mother reached out today after we all got back from work and Katie said I was very rude over the phone which I was not rude. I had always liked Katie and wanted her to be our vet for the horses. However, now I feel the opposite. And bummed out that my phone anxiety came off as rude. I had always looked up to her as a vet and thought she did good work. I was wrong.
