Welcome, local pet owners of Hawthorne and surrounding areas, particularly those who care for avian and exotic animals, to an introduction of Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital, a Pet Hospital located at 4871 Rosecrans Ave, Hawthorne, CA 90250, USA. As a specialized Pet Hospital, Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital caters to a niche market, focusing on the veterinary needs of birds and exotic pets, which often require different expertise and equipment compared to traditional companion animals like dogs and cats. Such a facility is expected to have veterinarians and staff with specific training and experience in handling and treating a variety of non-traditional pets, including reptiles, amphibians, small mammals, and birds. The environment would ideally be set up to accommodate these unique species, with appropriate housing, temperature controls, and specialized diagnostic and treatment tools.

The available customer reviews offer contrasting experiences at Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital. One pet owner brought their snake in for an emergency visit, reportedly due to feeding it a mouse that was too large. They mentioned a half-hour wait and a $150 charge for the visit. Unfortunately, the snake passed away three days later. The owner's request for a refund was denied by the manager, who reportedly stated, "these things happen." This review raises concerns about the effectiveness of the emergency care provided and the clinic's response to a negative outcome.

In contrast, another reviewer had a positive experience with Dr. Rosskopf. They brought their leopard gecko, Tenga, who had not been eating for weeks. Dr. Rosskopf is credited with accurately diagnosing an internal parasite after conducting radiographs and bloodwork. He prescribed antibiotics and a dewormer, and the gecko reportedly started eating normally within a week after treatment. This positive feedback highlights Dr. Rosskopf's diagnostic skills and the effectiveness of the treatment provided for this particular exotic pet. The reviewer's only complaint was the inability to enter the clinic with their pet and having to wait in the car during treatment.

Based on these reviews, Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital features at least one veterinarian, Dr. Rosskopf, who is knowledgeable and effective in treating exotic animals like leopard geckos, including diagnosing and treating internal parasites. The clinic is equipped to perform diagnostics such as radiographs and bloodwork, which are essential for treating exotic species. However, the negative review regarding the emergency care of a snake raises questions about the hospital's ability to handle all types of exotic animal emergencies and their customer service approach in such situations. The clinic also has a policy where owners may not be able to accompany their pets inside during treatment.

Given the specialization in avian and exotic animals, the services offered likely include routine wellness exams tailored to these species, nutritional counseling, diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and injuries specific to birds, reptiles, and small mammals, and potentially surgical procedures relevant to these animals. They would also likely have medications and supplies suitable for exotic pets.

No specific promotional information is mentioned in the reviews. It is common for veterinary clinics to offer initial consultation specials or discounts on certain services. To learn about any current promotions at Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital, interested pet owners would need to contact them directly.

In summary, Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital in Hawthorne, CA, is a pet hospital that specializes in the care of avian and exotic animals. Reviews indicate that Dr. Rosskopf has been successful in diagnosing and treating certain conditions in exotic pets. However, there is also a report of a negative outcome following an emergency visit for a snake and dissatisfaction with the clinic's response. The clinic has diagnostic capabilities like radiographs and bloodwork but may have a policy where owners do not accompany their pets during treatment. For local owners of birds and exotic pets, this hospital offers specialized care, but it is advisable to consider the mixed feedback when making a decision about their pet's healthcare.

For those in the Hawthorne area with unique pets, Avian & Exotic Animal Hospital provides a focused approach to veterinary medicine for these species. The expertise of veterinarians like Dr. Rosskopf in diagnosing and treating conditions specific to exotic animals appears to be a significant feature. However, the contrasting experience with emergency care and the clinic's policies regarding owner presence during treatment are points that potential clients may want to discuss further with the hospital. To understand the full scope of their services, the environment of the clinic, and any current promotions, contacting them directly is recommended.

Dr. Rosskopf is a great doctor and he took great care in diagnosing my leopard gecko, Tenga, with an internal parasite. She was not eating for weeks. He took radiographs, bloodwork, and prescribed antibiotics and a dewormer, and wished me luck on my pursuit as a veterinary student. After the treatment she received, she was eating normally within a week. My only complaint is that I couldn't enter the clinic with her to greet the doctor, I instead had to wait in the car during treatment.

I’m very happy with exotic pet (bunny) care I received in there. Everything was very professional and bunny got well right after our visit. Thanks team!

If you want a vet that cares about your pet like it's their own, this is the spot. I've had two bunnies vaccinated, spayed and neutered here. They are compassionate. They went over after-care and medication techniques because they knew I'd be apprehensive. Their care during covid is exceptional. They're maintaining the safety of their staff by handling everything with customers outdoors.

This place has been nothing but kind to my dwarf hamsters. Good local place that charges reasonably for services, and has been very helpful with medications/solutions for the conditions my pets have had. They do not do emergency visits but will sometimes look to get a time slot/appointment sooner if possible.
