They were able to work my dog in without an appointment. Brenda (vet tech) and Dr Bruce listened to my concerns and even called me to clarify a few things after I dropped her off. I was shown the X-rays that were taken and then we discussed different treatment options. I did not feel like unnecessary tests or procedures were done. Thankfully my sweet girl is doing better today!

My experience here was very positive with the staff. I brought my Maltese in for a examination and blood work. When the results came in Dr H call me and spend the time explaining it to me.

The staff at Armistead Avenue Veterinary Hospital is phenomenal. We have been going there for 6 years and they treat us with the utmost respect. We love the service that our fur-baby, Coco Chanel receives. We love all of the doctors and their entire staff. ❤️🐾❤️

I can't praise them enough. I have a long and rough story to share, but I promise it all ends in happy tears! Allie (11yo cat) was 13 lbs. Earlier this year she was starting to lose weight. By June you could feel her spine. We currently live in VB (my fiance is from Newport News and previously used a vet up that way) but we decided to set an appt with a vet hospital down in VB. They saw us quickly but refused to do anything except bloodwork. They wouldn't touch her, literally. Once we got the bloodwork results back, the vet said it was phenomenal and nothing to worry about. That cats lose weight when they age and this was a normal aging process. Okay. We had our answer. Oh by the way, she was 10lbs at that visit. Well, about 3 weeks ago rolls around and she's just losing more weight. Her hips which used to be full and meaty were now muscleless and boney. She was about an inch and a half thick at her hips right in front of her tail. We decide to take her to the vet she used to go to because something just didn't sit right with us from the last appointment. We did a walk-in Saturday morning appointment where we were met with Dr. Bruce (she helps out there a couple days a month I believe, but I think officially works here at Armistead) and we told her we have bloodwork but the previous vet said everything was fine. She looked it over, and agreed the bloodwork looks good, but loosing 3lbs is quite a lot. We then weighed Allie... 7.6lbs. Dr. Bruce immediately discussed the possibilities of ibd or possible cancer. Not to put fear into us, but just to be completely transparent which was so appreciated. And then told us our next steps and what to expect. Within a week we had an appointment for an ultrasound. And within days of that, we had the results. Extreme inflammation in the intestines, and a mass on her lymphnode. They couldn't confirm cancer without a biopsy, and gave us 4 or 5 options on what we could do next. We decided to do surgery. As we waited for an appointment, Allie was declining quickly. She started throwing up every night, and it's like nothing I'd ever seen before. She started eatting way less than normal as well. I called the vet hospital we did her last couple appointments at, and we were told for various reasons (nothing bad, just holiday, and people out of town etc) we wouldn't be able to do the surgery for a couple weeks. I called multiple clinics the next day, everyone was booked out until January. I truely don't think she would be alive by Thanksgiving let alone January, just based how how quickly she was declining. We put posts on Facebook asking for clinics people suggest, and Armistead was mentioned. I gave them a call and explained my situation. I don't know if they could hear my pleas for help in my voice or what, but they got me an appointment THAT morning. I ran out of work and got her there for her appointment. My fiance met me there as he works in Newport News. Our Dr. walks in, and it was Dr. Bruce. The first person to take us seriously who we happened to get on a random Saturday walk-in appointment from the other clinic. It was honestly so calming that the first vet who cared what we said walked in that door. Michelle I believe her name is, I think she is a nurse at Armistead was AMAZING as well. She made some calls and did some research for us. Well, Michelle got us a surgery appointment THE NEXT FREAKING DAY. I literally started crying. The procedure was done by a different location, one who specializes in surgery. Afterwards we were told they found 2 masses on the lining of her intestines, a mass on a lymphnode and a 1/2cm mass inside her intestines. They got it all out. They said it shouldn't be coming back and we have a followup appointment in a couple weeks. Imagine if we listened to the very first clinic... I seriously can not thank the team at Armistead enough. The passion they have to help animals is like nothing I've seen before. We will definitely be making them our go to clinic from now on.
