We took our dog here today as she has been sick since the weekend. Great care, saw us with short notice, exam, shots, and prescriptions for 1/4 of the vet we used before. Great care, understanding staff, and a fee that was far less than other vets in our area, what else does a pet owner need. We recommend these wonderful folks, whole heartily.

Welcome to Animal Wellness Veterinary Hospital
Animal Wellness Veterinary Hospital, situated at 307 TN-113 in White Pine, Tennessee, serves the local community as a Pet Hospital providing veterinary care for a range of animals. To offer a detailed introduction for potential local users, it's important to consider the available information regarding the hospital's environment, services offered, key features, and insights from customer reviews. This overview aims to present an objective perspective based on the limited feedback accessible online.
The physical environment of Animal Wellness Veterinary Hospital, based on its designation as a Pet Hospital and its address, would typically include examination rooms for consultations and treatments, potential surgical facilities for various procedures, and possibly areas for housing animals requiring observation or recovery. A reception area for clients and administrative spaces are also standard in such establishments. While the specific ambiance and layout are not described in the provided reviews, one might expect a setting designed to be functional for veterinary services and reasonably comfortable for animals and their owners.
In terms of services, one customer review mentions taking their sick dog to Animal Wellness Veterinary Hospital and receiving "great care" with a "short notice" appointment. The services provided included an examination, shots, and prescriptions. This suggests that the hospital offers general veterinary care, including diagnostics, vaccinations, and medication prescriptions. The reviewer's positive experience with the promptness of the appointment indicates a potential feature of accommodating urgent needs. Additionally, the comparison to a previous vet, noting that the cost was "1/4" of what they used to pay, suggests that Animal Wellness Veterinary Hospital may be considered an affordable option in the area.
However, another review presents a starkly contrasting and deeply concerning experience regarding the euthanasia of a small Shih-Tzu. The reviewer recounts a traumatic event where, according to their account, the dog was not adequately sedated prior to the administration of the euthanasia drug (phenobarbital). The description details the dog screaming and fighting for a prolonged period before passing, causing significant distress to the owner. The reviewer explicitly states their horror at the dog's suffering and notes that their regular vet back home was also appalled to hear that sedation was allegedly omitted. This account raises serious concerns about the hospital's protocols and the compassion shown during end-of-life care.
Given these two very different accounts, it is challenging to form a singular positive or negative assessment of Animal Wellness Veterinary Hospital. The positive review highlights affordability, prompt service, and perceived good care for a sick dog. This suggests that for general veterinary needs, some clients may have satisfactory experiences. However, the negative review details a profoundly distressing incident related to euthanasia, a particularly sensitive and critical veterinary service.
Based on its categorization as a Pet Hospital, it is reasonable to infer that Animal Wellness Veterinary Hospital likely offers a broader range of services beyond general check-ups and euthanasia. These could include routine wellness examinations, preventative care, management of chronic conditions, and potentially various surgical procedures. However, the limited review data does not provide specific details about these other services.
Features of Animal Wellness Veterinary Hospital, as indicated by the reviews, could include affordability (as highlighted by one customer) and the apparent willingness to accommodate appointments on short notice. However, the alleged lack of proper sedation during euthanasia, as described in the negative review, raises serious questions about the standard of care in all procedures. The mention of "Dr. Karen" in the negative review is a specific point of reference for that experience.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. However, the positive feedback regarding affordability and good care could serve as a form of positive word-of-mouth. Conversely, the extremely negative account of the euthanasia experience would undoubtedly act as a significant deterrent for potential clients who prioritize compassionate and peaceful end-of-life care for their pets.
For local users considering Animal Wellness Veterinary Hospital, the information presents a mixed picture. The reported affordability and ability to secure a short-notice appointment for general care might be attractive to some pet owners. However, the very serious allegations surrounding the handling of a euthanasia procedure cannot be ignored and should prompt significant caution and further inquiry. Potential clients may wish to seek additional reviews or testimonials to gain a broader perspective on the overall quality of care and the protocols in place for various services, especially sensitive ones like euthanasia.
It would be prudent for prospective clients to inquire directly with Animal Wellness Veterinary Hospital about their protocols for all procedures, especially those involving sedation and euthanasia, to ensure they align with their expectations for humane and compassionate care. Understanding their approach to patient comfort and pain management is crucial when making decisions about your pet's health and well-being.
In conclusion, Animal Wellness Veterinary Hospital in White Pine, TN, appears to offer general veterinary services, with one customer highlighting affordability and prompt care. However, a deeply concerning account of a traumatic euthanasia procedure raises significant red flags regarding the standard of care in at least one critical area. Local users are advised to carefully consider these contrasting experiences and to seek further information to make an informed decision about entrusting their pets' care to this facility.

Dec 16, 2024 · Sandra NorrisMy little Shih-Tzu had to be put to sleep a few months ago. Dr Karen simply gave him an injection of the phenobarb (without giving him a sedative first!) and he screamed and screamed and fought throughout the entire thing. It probably took a full 60 seconds for him to finally pass....which is a long time when the dog you promised to protect forever had such an awful death. He was old, deaf and blind...and he died screaming instead of peacefully. It was horrible! He didnt deserve to die like that. My vet back home was horrified and said "she didnt sedate him first?!?!?" It was just a heartbreaking thing to witness. His suffering and fear went on way too long. Throughout my life Ive been with all my animals as they were euthanized. Not once did I feel like it wasnt anything but peaceful....until this awful experience w Dr Karen. I will never forgive her.

Feb 15, 2021 · Annette WintersDr.Collins has taken care of my dogs for years and she has always done a wonderful job. I do however go back and forth to Lakeway Animal Hospital but they have gotten so expensive under new management. I will just stick with Dr. Collins. I know she really cares for her patients unlike some others that just want money.
