The receptionists are nice and understanding. But Dr Hutchinson is very rude and my last experience with him has made me extremely uncomfortable and I will never be bringing my dogs back to this vet.

Welcome to Animal Medical Center of the Upper Valley

The Animal Medical Center of the Upper Valley, situated at 77 Etna Rd, Lebanon, NH 03766, USA, is a unique and comprehensive pet care facility. Established in July 2019 through the merger of Dr. Charlie Hutchinson's two businesses, Upper Valley Veterinary Services and The Dog House at Etna Road, it functions as a full-service veterinary hospital alongside a boarding and daycare facility. This integration creates a convenient "one-stop-shop" for pet owners in the Lebanon area, offering seamless care from routine check-ups to extended stays. You can reach them at (603) 448-3534 or +1 603-448-3534.

Environment: Integrated Care with a Focus on Comfort

The facility at 77 Etna Rd houses both the veterinary clinic and the boarding/daycare services, aiming to provide a holistic environment for pets. While specific architectural details are not widely publicized, the combined nature of the businesses suggests an environment designed to cater to various pet needs under one roof. Key aspects of the environment likely include:

  • Combined Veterinary and Boarding Facilities: This integrated approach means pets receiving veterinary care can easily transition to boarding, and vice-versa, potentially reducing stress for animals familiar with the environment.
  • Dedicated Kennel Space: The "Dog House" component indicates purpose-built kennels for both dogs and cats, offering short and long-term boarding options. The focus is on creating a "perfect home away from home," suggesting comfortable and safe enclosures.
  • Daycare Options: Beyond boarding, the facility provides daycare/dayboard services, implying spaces designed for pet socialization and supervised play.
  • COVID-19 Protocols: Current information indicates that the facility has protocols in place for clients who have tested positive for COVID-19, been exposed, or are feeling unwell, requesting them to stay outside and call for directions. This demonstrates a commitment to health and safety for both staff and clients.
The concept behind the Animal Medical Center of the Upper Valley is to provide a continuum of care within a familiar and supportive environment, aiming to minimize the logistical burden on pet owners while maximizing comfort for their animals.

Services: Comprehensive Veterinary Care and Pet Accommodations

As a full-service veterinary hospital, the Animal Medical Center of the Upper Valley provides a broad array of medical services for pets, complemented by their boarding and daycare offerings. Their mission, inherited from Upper Valley Veterinary Services' founder Dr. Stewart Ketcham, is "Caring with kindness for pets and their people." Services typically include:

  • General Veterinary Care: This covers routine wellness exams, vaccinations to protect against common diseases, and preventative care to maintain pet health.
  • Medical Consultations: Diagnosis and treatment of various illnesses, injuries, and chronic conditions are a core offering, aiming to address a wide range of pet health concerns.
  • Surgical Procedures: While specific details on the range of surgeries are not extensively detailed, a "full-service veterinary hospital" typically implies the provision of common surgical procedures, such as spaying, neutering, and potentially other soft tissue surgeries.
  • Diagnostic Services: Essential for accurate diagnoses, services like laboratory testing (for blood work, urinalysis, etc.) and potentially imaging (X-rays) are expected in a modern veterinary hospital.
  • Dental Care: Maintaining oral health is crucial for a pet's overall well-being, and veterinary hospitals typically offer dental examinations, cleanings, and necessary extractions.
  • Boarding Services: A significant component of their offering, provided through "The Dog House," includes short and long-term boarding for both dogs and cats, overseen by attentive kennel staff to ensure comfort and happiness.
  • Daycare/Dayboard Options: For pet owners needing daytime care, the facility provides supervised daycare services, allowing pets to socialize and remain active.
  • Emergency Care (during business hours): While dedicated 24/7 emergency care might be referred to specialized facilities, a full-service hospital typically handles emergencies during its operational hours.
The Animal Medical Center of the Upper Valley strives to be a singular resource for both the medical and lodging needs of pets.

Features: Merged Expertise and Client Education

The Animal Medical Center of the Upper Valley distinguishes itself through several key features:

  • Merged Expertise: The integration of Upper Valley Veterinary Services (with over 35 years of history) and The Dog House (founded in 2017) brings together established veterinary expertise with dedicated pet accommodation services. Dr. Charlie Hutchinson, the owner, has continued the motto of "Caring with kindness for pets and their people," emphasizing compassionate treatment.
  • Experienced Leadership: Dr. Charles Hutchinson, a veterinarian and practice owner, brings extensive experience to the center, having graduated from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1991. His background in large animal clinics also highlights a broad understanding of animal care.
  • Commitment to Education: The hospital's website features a newsletter with articles on various pet health topics, such as "When to Let Your Puppy Go Outside During Winter," "Behavioral Issues a Veterinarian Can Help With," and "The Importance of Deworming for Your Pet." This indicates a strong commitment to educating clients on how to keep their pets healthy year-round through good nutrition and exercise.
  • Focus on Loving Care: The "About Us" section highlights that the team "remembers that all animals and pets need to be treated with loving care in every check-up, procedure, or surgery," reinforcing a compassionate approach to animal welfare.
  • Attentive Kennel Staff: For boarding and daycare, the presence of "caring and attentive kennel staff" is emphasized, aiming to ensure pets are comfortable and happy during their stay.
While some customer reviews indicate concerns regarding specific interactions, the overall mission and the stated features of the Animal Medical Center of the Upper Valley emphasize a dedication to comprehensive, kind, and educational pet care.

Promotional Information: One-Stop-Shop Convenience

This unique offering of combining veterinary care with boarding and daycare under one roof is a significant convenience for pet owners. While specific, time-limited promotional offers like discounts on first exams (as seen with other clinics) are not explicitly detailed in publicly available information for this particular facility, the inherent value proposition lies in:

  • Streamlined Pet Care: The ability to access both medical services and pet accommodations at a single location simplifies pet management for busy owners.

  • Accessibility and Communication: The option to call or stop by to set up an appointment, and a dedicated email for vet questions (info@uvvsvet.com), highlights their accessibility for client inquiries.
The long-standing presence of Upper Valley Veterinary Services, which the Animal Medical Center builds upon, also suggests a foundation of established trust and community presence in Lebanon, NH. This historical reputation, combined with the comprehensive service model, forms the core of their appeal to local pet owners.

The poor old guy had a fatal heart attack while struggling against his exam. We still miss the old guy. The vet and technician were very sympathetic and supportive. We have been with this original group of care givers since the late 80's.

I chose to see another vet out of convenience for my dogs eye issue and Upper Valley dropped me as a client. They will no longer see my dog. My dog had an eye infection early in the week. I wanted him seen by Friday. The appointment times offered by Upper Valley were not compatible with my work schedule. I also did not want to drop my dog off at 8:00 AM in the morning and pick him up at 5:00PM if it could be avoided. I elected to see another vet who could see my dog later in the day the same week just this one time. The new vet requested a copy of my dogs records to review before seeing my dog (this is best practice). Upper Valley required I sign a medical release form to share my dogs records with the new vet (this is also best practice). However, Upper Valley failed to mention that when you ask them to send a copy of your dogs record to another vet, their policy is to remove you as a client and cancel all future appointments without telling you… and thats what happened.

The staff here are phenomenal. My dog had a medical emergency while I was out of town and they worked with me to ensure that myself and my dog felt safe and cared for. Been going here for over 2 years and I have to say, the staff keeps me coming back.
