Welcome to Animal Hospital of Wilkes

The Animal Hospital of Wilkes, located at 1609 Curtis Bridge Rd, Wilkesboro, NC 28697, USA, stands as a cornerstone of pet healthcare in the Wilkesboro community and surrounding areas. Established in 1958, this full-service small animal hospital has built a long-standing reputation for providing high-quality medicine and compassionate care. With a team of five dedicated veterinarians and a highly skilled staff, they are committed to fostering the human-animal bond and ensuring the well-being of generations of pets.

The facility itself is a large and newly refreshed free-standing space, designed to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment for both pets and their owners. While specific details about the interior décor or layout are not extensively publicized, the emphasis on a "refreshed" space suggests a modern and clean setting, conducive to effective veterinary care. The positive customer reviews frequently highlight the friendly and caring nature of the staff, indicating an atmosphere where clients feel like family and their "fur babies" are treated with genuine affection.

Animal Hospital of Wilkes offers a comprehensive range of veterinary services, addressing almost every aspect of a pet's health and wellness journey. Their services are designed to support pets from their earliest stages through their senior years. This includes robust preventative medicine programs, which are foundational to keeping pets healthy for life. These programs encompass essential vaccinations, crucial for building immunity against common diseases, and parasite prevention strategies to protect against fleas, ticks, and heartworms, which are a year-round threat. They also provide regular physical exams, which are vital for establishing a baseline of health and detecting any abnormalities early on. Nutritional counseling is also available to ensure pets receive the optimal diet for their growth and development.

Beyond preventative care, the hospital is well-equipped to handle a wide array of medical needs. They offer advanced diagnostic capabilities, including blood and stool tests, to understand a pet's internal workings and check for parasites, infections, and other underlying issues. When a pet requires more intensive care, the Animal Hospital of Wilkes provides treatment for sick and injured pets, along with crucial daytime emergency care and support. The walk-in nature of their emergency services, as noted by a client, offers a vital lifeline during unexpected health crises, though it may occasionally lead to wait times.

Surgical services are a significant component of their offerings, covering both routine procedures and more complex interventions. This includes soft-tissue surgery, such as spaying and neutering, which are critical for pet population control and overall health, as well as advanced orthopedics for issues related to bones and joints. Dental care is also a priority, with services aimed at maintaining optimal oral health for pets, which is often linked to their overall well-being. Furthermore, for pet owners needing to travel or requiring temporary care for their animals, boarding services are available, ensuring pets are in good hands.

A distinctive feature of Animal Hospital of Wilkes, repeatedly highlighted by loyal customers, is the profound level of care and compassion demonstrated by the staff. Reviews frequently mention how the doctors and staff treat pets with the same love and concern as their owners do. This sentiment is encapsulated by a customer stating, "They really treat you like family here! Simply the BEST!!" and another who drives 45 minutes each way, declaring, "I wouldn’t change for the world." This dedication creates a strong bond of trust and fosters a partnership between the veterinary team and pet parents in managing their animals' health. The hospital also prides itself on being a practice that values its employees, offering ongoing training, competitive compensation, and a robust benefits package, which likely contributes to the high quality of care and positive work environment.

While specific ongoing promotional offers are not readily available or explicitly detailed in the provided information, veterinary practices often engage in various forms of promotion. These can include seasonal vaccination clinics, special offers on wellness packages for puppies and kittens, or discounts on dental cleanings. Given their long history and commitment to the community, it is plausible that Animal Hospital of Wilkes participates in local pet health initiatives or offers periodic specials to encourage preventative care. For instance, they have been noted as a sponsor for Rabies Vaccination Clinics in Wilkes County, which aligns with their focus on community pet health. Interested clients are always encouraged to inquire directly with the hospital about any current specials or wellness plans that might benefit their pets.

In summary, the Animal Hospital of Wilkes stands as a highly respected and established veterinary care provider in Wilkesboro, NC. With a long history dating back to 1958, a dedicated team of veterinarians and staff, a comprehensive suite of services ranging from preventative care and routine check-ups to advanced surgery and emergency services, and a warm, family-like environment, it is clear why they have been voted “Best Veterinary Clinic” by Wilkes Journal-Patriot readers. Their commitment to treating pets and their owners with genuine care and professional expertise makes them a trusted choice for pet healthcare in the region.

I love the staff and the doctors. They seem to care for my fur babies as much as I do. Since it is a walk in hospital it makes it a little easier in an emergency (especially when emergencies cost $100000000 it seems) but the downside to that is sometimes there is a wait time. I drive 45 minutes each way to take my animals here and I wouldn’t change for the world.

I took my dog here for a snake bite when my own vet didn’t have time for me and now I think I’ll switch completely! Dr. Alerhold was fantastic! Prices were much more affordable than others around.

All the employees are absolutely wonderful! I always recommend this vets office to everyone I know and I have always taken my animals to this vets office for over 20 years. My parents have always taken their animals to this vets office before I was born. My family has always trusted this vets office. All the doctors and vet assistants and office receptionist has always been very informative and answered all my questions or concerns. I just can’t praise this vets office enough and that the gods honest truth!

They are the nicest people and they are great. My only problem is I can never get anyone on the phone. I am out of town an hour and a half away and can never ever ever get anybody on the phone so I do a stab in the dark and drive. I wish this would be improved but these guys are amazing. The staff and the doctors are amazing. that’s why I drive.
