I take my dog Koda here every 3-5 months, and just recently established care for my kitten Archie for a check up. This place is great! The doctor is super gentle with my babies, and does great explaining things that I may not understand. And their staff is always super kind to me! The only thing I don’t like, is I feel like I get charged for an exam everytime I go, even if I don’t ask for a full exam. My dog just had his annual exam in December of last year. If I didn’t have to pay the exam fee everytime I went I could afford to get vaccinations done that he needs. (Like Lime, rabies, heartworm test, etc.) But being on SSI that fee kills my bank. Lol My last vet would normally just charge me for the vaccinations or whatever needed to be done after he was established as a client there. And I didn’t require an exam everytime I went. But that’s my only complaint. Otherwise they are a great vet as far as how they care for your pets. I wish they took rabbits, because I’m scared to take my rabbit boys anywhere.

Welcome to Animal Health Center of Salisbury
The Animal Health Center of Salisbury, situated at 59 Lafayette Rd, Salisbury, MA 01952, USA, operates as a full-service animal hospital, falling squarely within the "Pet Hospital" category. Established in 2012 and led by the Massachusetts-licensed veterinarian Dr. Tumkur Narasimhan, this center is committed to providing a broad spectrum of veterinary care to pets in Salisbury and its neighboring communities, including Newburyport, Seabrook, Amesbury, and Haverhill. The facility positions itself as a provider of comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental services for both routine visits and emergency situations, with a stated focus on the health and well-being of its animal patients.
The environment at the Animal Health Center of Salisbury is designed to be clean, comfortable, and calming for both pets and their owners. As a modern, full-service veterinary hospital, you can expect a well-organized reception area where clients check in. The facility likely features multiple dedicated examination rooms, providing a private and calm space for consultations and initial assessments. For more intensive procedures, the hospital would be equipped with a sterile surgical suite, a diagnostic imaging room housing digital X-ray technology, and an in-house laboratory for rapid test results. Additionally, areas for dental procedures and anesthesia monitoring would be present. The emphasis on a "kid-friendly" and "calm" atmosphere suggests that measures are taken to reduce stress for visiting animals and their human companions, which is a vital aspect of quality veterinary care. The layout is structured to facilitate efficient patient flow while maintaining a compassionate approach.
The services provided by the Animal Health Center of Salisbury are extensive, covering various aspects of pet health throughout their lives:
- Preventive and Wellness Care: This is a cornerstone of their practice, including general healthy pet exams, routine check-ups, and a full range of crucial vaccinations for dogs (Rabies, Distemper/Parvovirus, Leptospirosis, Canine Influenza, Lyme, Bordetella) and cats (Feline Distemper, Feline Leukemia Virus, Feline Bordetella). They also offer comprehensive parasite control, addressing fleas, ticks, and heartworms, with options like the convenient Proheart injection for 12-month heartworm prevention.
- Diagnostic Services: To accurately diagnose and treat illnesses, the hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools. This includes an in-house digital X-ray unit for immediate internal imaging, as well as the use of both in-house and external laboratories for comprehensive testing. Their testing capabilities encompass blood work (CBC, chemistry panels), urinalysis, fecal exams, heartworm tests, feline AIDS and leukemia tests, parvovirus tests, tick-borne disease tests, and specific panels for pancreatitis and feline heart disease detection (pro BNP). For complex cases, they collaborate with board-certified radiologists and pathologists for further evaluation.
- Veterinary Surgery: The center features a fully equipped operating room staffed by a trained team capable of performing a wide array of surgical procedures. These range from routine procedures like spaying and neutering and basic dental operations to more complex non-elective and emergency surgeries, such as cesarean sections, limb amputations, enucleations (eye removal), exploratory laparotomies, and foreign body or mass removals.
- Dental Care: They offer comprehensive professional dental care, including teeth and gum cleaning, which may involve digital dental X-rays to assess oral health below the gumline.
- Emergency and Urgent Care: The hospital accepts emergency cases during its regular operating hours, providing crucial support for pets with urgent medical needs. For after-hours emergencies or highly critical cases, they would typically provide referrals to specialized emergency clinics.
- Microchipping: A vital service for pet identification, significantly increasing the chances of reuniting lost pets with their owners.
- Grooming and Boarding: These convenient services are offered, potentially streamlining pet care for busy owners.
- Nutritional and Behavioral Counseling: To help pet owners manage their pets' dietary requirements and address behavioral challenges effectively.
- Pharmacy Services: An in-house pharmacy provides convenient access to a wide range of prescription medications, prescription diets, and various preventatives.
- Exotics and Pocket Pets: Uniquely, some veterinarians at the Animal Health Center of Salisbury have the capability to provide medical and surgical services for certain small mammals and reptiles, such as rabbits and guinea pigs. It's important to note they do not care for birds or venomous species.
- Euthanasia Services: Offering compassionate support and end-of-life care during difficult times for pet owners.
The features of the Animal Health Center of Salisbury are perceived differently among its clientele, leading to varied experiences. On the positive side, many clients consistently highlight the compassionate and gentle nature of the veterinary staff. Reviews commend the doctor for being "super gentle with my babies" and for effectively "explaining things that I may not understand," demonstrating a clear commitment to client education and empathetic patient handling. The staff is frequently lauded for being "always super kind," fostering a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. The ability to care for some exotic pets, like rabbits, is also a distinct advantage for owners of these less common companions, as not all veterinary practices offer this service. The hospital reports a high client retention rate and steady growth in new clients, suggesting a significant portion of its clientele is satisfied with the care provided. Their investment in comprehensive medical equipment underscores a commitment to modern veterinary practices.
However, critical feedback from some clients reveals notable concerns, particularly regarding fees and communication. A recurring complaint centers on the practice's fee structure, with clients feeling "charged for an exam everytime I go, even if I don’t ask for a full exam." This policy, especially for individuals on fixed incomes, can make essential preventive care, such as vaccinations, prohibitively expensive, leading to financial strain and the need to seek services elsewhere. This contrasts sharply with previous veterinary experiences where established clients were charged only for specific services or vaccinations without an additional exam fee for every visit.
More seriously, one highly negative review details alleged negligence that the client believes contributed to the death of their cat. This account includes accusations of hostile and combative communication from the owner, outright falsehoods spoken on recorded calls, and significant difficulty in obtaining accurate medical records, with the records received being described as "completely inaccurate" and "filled with lies." The profoundly distressing experience extended to receiving incorrect paw prints and an incorrect urn for their deceased pet, along with what was perceived as an "absolute premium" charge for these services. These severe criticisms highlight potential inconsistencies in service delivery, client communication, and post-care support, especially during emotionally charged and tragic situations. The reported lack of apology for appointment delays also points to potential challenges in managing client expectations and satisfaction during busy periods.
In terms of promotional information, the Animal Health Center of Salisbury's official communications emphasize its identity as a "full-service animal hospital" dedicated to providing "quality veterinary care" for both "emergency and routine cases." Their promotional efforts would highlight their comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental services, along with their clean, comfortable, kid-friendly, and calm environment. The expertise of Dr. Tumkur Narasimhan, backed by his experience, is a key point of promotion. They emphasize convenient operating hours (Monday-Friday with Saturday mornings) and the availability of emergency care during those times. The phone numbers, (978) 462-7953 and +1 978-462-7953, are readily available for booking appointments and general inquiries. Online information also notes their partnerships with leading veterinary suppliers, which might be used to subtly underscore the quality of their products and services. While positive client testimonials certainly contribute to their organic promotion, the significant negative feedback regarding specific, severe incidents suggests that prospective clients should carefully consider all available information and potentially seek multiple perspectives before choosing this practice.

Apr 27, 2025 · Rose AndersenPlease, if you love your pet do not take them to these people. There's a plethora of vets in this area and I promise you, you will find better. Their negligence contributed to the death of my cat. Further, the owner was hostile and combative about it and was on a recorded call speaking outright falsehoods. I also had to repeatedly request her records and it wasn't until a formal request was sent via email that I received anything. And even then, what I received was a completely inaccurate depiction of the visit filled with lies that appeared written by someone other than the vet that saw my cat. When I got my cat's ashes back (ready far after I was told they would be), the paw prints I received weren't even hers. My cat was polydactyl, the prints i received were not. The urn was incorrect and I was charged an absolute premium for it. I will freely admit, I picked her up long after the notification because I didn't even want to see these people. I still don't. It's why I haven't filed against them yet. Her name was Maxine. And she will get justice.
May 14, 2025 · Jesse JagodowskiCaring, knowledgeable staff that helped my dog since puppy-hood through all his unique dog struggles like epilepsy and skin allergies. He is a very robust old dog despite his health issues. If I am worried about something, they have helped me right away. I would trust all my fur babies to their care❤️
May 01, 2025 · Suu PokoThe doctor here is very knowledgeable and quickly diagnosed my dog, correctly with pancreatitis, Before she had long-term issues for a relatively reasonable price. It WAS expensive but not compared to what I've heard it costs ar places which rely on fancy testing rather than good old fashioned knowledgeable along with some bloodwork. More recently he diagnosed my cat with hyperthyroid and referred me to a place to get her treated, as well as gave me 2 other options for care. I appreciate the value they put in giving all the options so I could make an informed decision.
Mar 14, 2025 · M JThe people who work here are phenomenal. I brought my pup Ollie in and they were absolutely amazing with him and very kind to me, which to be honest, I needed after the mess of an election I was sure was in the bag for the non-felon. But I digress..if you want kindness and helpful folks and good veterinary service, go here.
