I have a 17 year old dog that has been on 3 legs his entire life. He has always suffered from a seizure disorder, but now also suffers from prett severe arthritis as well as a collapsing trachea, which is common for his breed. For the last 9 months he has been taking Hydocan, which is a cough syrup with a small dose of hydrocodone included in it. This has worked extremely well to treat his cough. Recently, the vet wrote me a script for a only a 6 day supply (normally they give me an 18 day supply, meaning I have to make a trip to the vet every two weeks to physically pick up this script), and informed me they couldn’t give anymore until we they had taken blood and completed his labs. So I scheduled labs for the following Wednesday, but the day before our appointment, we ran out of his medication early due to accidentally spilling some of it. To be clear about this medication, they don’t give it to you in a convenient container. When there is 30mL or less in the container you have to pour it out into the cap in order to put it into a syringe to squirt into the back of his throat. It’s actually slightly difficult not to spill it. Despite the fact that we have never asked them to refill this script earlier than allowed before, and this only happened due to accidental spillage, the vet (his regular veterinarian was not there) coldly informed me he would not refill his script, and even went as far as to accuse me of abusing his medication by taking it myself. My 9 lb., 17 year old three legged dog suffers from a non-stop hacking cough, he can barely walk on his own, and they think I’m stealing the limited amount of meds they gave me to treat his collapsing trachea, in order to get myself high?! Really?! I am appalled at their decision not to help my dog by simply refilling a small amount of medication for him to last him another day until his appointment, and I am disgusted by the behavior of the veterinarian, who made false allegations to my face by accusing me of abusing my dogs medicine. I could never recommend this place after today. To the owner, I absolutely used abusive speech to tell your lunatic veterinarian what I thought of him. He doesn’t care about animals. He is only there for the paycheck. In my experience, people who make wild and baseless accusations against others are typically projecting something going on with them. I would keep on eye on your vet, Sir. He was way out of line with me. I’m currently sitting at home watching my dog go through opiate withdrawals and cough himself to death, since we can’t see another vet until tomorrow. You guys cancelled our appointment, and abandoned my dog. Shame on you. Update: The emergency vet had no problem prescribing Lucky the medication he needed a day after Animal Health Associates denied Lucky his meds. Bush Animal Hospital today confirmed for me labs are not required in order to prescribe this medication. He gave me a 3 months script for it (360mL). They actually told me labs were 100% optional, and that he recommended I wait. All of the grief your vet put me through was for no other reason than to extract money out of me. Shame on you.

Everyone we worked with—from reception to tech to vet—was friendly and accommodating/understanding about my fearful, reactive dog. Communication was clear and warm. Nothing was pushed on us. We were in and out quickly, and the price was reasonable."

I've taken in several dogs in my capacity as foster mom for Senior Dog Rescue of Oregon. I've been pleased with every aspect of AHA. I like all the vets I've dealt with. It's quick to get an appointment and the entire team is very responsive and respectful. And the prices are reasonable. Communications have been crystal clear. I feel like they care about my dogs.
