My little prince (in profile pic) was diagnosed with diabetes march 2024. all of a sudden he developed diabetic cataracts in september and then went completely blind after a week. I chose this clinic based on a thorough search and I am beyond thankful for everyone there. After 1 appointment they were able to give me an estimate and schedule me in that following Monday. Prince was able to see on Wednesday. He kept his eyes closed for most of the day after the surgery. I loved how frequent the follow up appointments were. They were always a phone call away but fortunately Prince had a smooth recovery so there was no need for any unscheduled visits. I am grateful for Dr. Gwin and his team!! Prince was so scared of the world when he became blind and now he’s back to loving every second.

Welcome to Animal Eye Clinic

Animal Eye Clinic, located at 4005 S 102nd E Ave, Tulsa, OK 74146, USA, is a highly specialized "Pet Hospital" dedicated exclusively to veterinary ophthalmology. Unlike general veterinary practices, this clinic focuses entirely on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of eye diseases in animals. Under the expert care of Dr. Gwin and his dedicated team, the Animal Eye Clinic has earned a reputation for restoring sight and significantly improving the quality of life for pets suffering from various ocular conditions, particularly cataracts, as powerfully attested by numerous grateful clients. This specialization makes them a critical referral center for veterinarians and a beacon of hope for pet owners whose animals are experiencing vision loss or eye discomfort.

Environment and Atmosphere

The environment at Animal Eye Clinic is designed to be highly professional and reassuring, reflecting its specialized nature. While the focus is on advanced medical procedures, the overwhelming feedback from clients points to a deeply compassionate and supportive atmosphere. Pet owners describe feeling "beyond thankful" and "relieved" by the care their animals receive, suggesting a setting where anxiety is minimized, and confidence in the medical team is paramount. The efficient scheduling—from initial evaluation to surgery within days, as noted by clients—indicates a well-organized and responsive clinic. Even though the patients may be in a state of distress due to vision loss, the compassionate approach of "Dr. Gwin and his team" helps make the experience as positive as possible. The reviews highlight the excellent "expert dedicated care," creating a sense of trust that the "precious fur baby" is in the safest hands. This empathetic environment is crucial given the often-stressful nature of eye conditions and surgeries.

Specialized Services Offered

As a veterinary ophthalmology clinic, Animal Eye Clinic offers a highly specific and advanced range of services focused solely on the eyes of animals. These specialized services go beyond the capabilities of a general "Pet Hospital." Their core offerings include:

  • Cataract Surgery: This is a major area of expertise, as evidenced by the glowing testimonials. The clinic performs advanced phacoemulsification surgery to remove cataracts, particularly diabetic cataracts, which can cause rapid blindness. The success rate and rapid recovery times, allowing pets to see within days of surgery, are a testament to their skill in this complex procedure. This includes pre-surgical evaluations to determine candidacy and extensive post-surgical follow-up appointments to ensure smooth recovery.

  • Diagnosis and Treatment of Ocular Diseases: Beyond cataracts, the clinic diagnoses and treats a wide array of eye conditions, which may include glaucoma, dry eye (keratoconjunctivitis sicca), corneal ulcers, eyelid abnormalities, retinal diseases, uveitis, and other inflammatory or infectious eye conditions.

  • Advanced Diagnostic Procedures: To accurately diagnose eye conditions, the clinic utilizes specialized equipment and techniques, potentially including ophthalmoscopy, tonometry (for eye pressure), slit-lamp biomicroscopy, electroretinography (ERG) to assess retinal function, and ocular ultrasonography to visualize structures within the eye. These advanced tools are crucial for precise diagnoses.

  • Ocular Surgical Procedures: In addition to cataract surgery, they perform various other delicate eye surgeries, such as those for eyelid corrections, corneal repairs, glaucoma management (e.g., laser cyclophotocoagulation or shunt implantation), and possibly procedures for retinal detachment, depending on the specific expertise of Dr. Gwin and the clinic's equipment.

  • Ocular Emergencies: While primarily appointment-based, given the urgency of some eye conditions (e.g., sudden blindness, severe trauma), specialized eye clinics often have protocols for managing ocular emergencies or working with referring veterinarians for immediate care.

  • Post-Surgical and Long-Term Follow-up Care: The clinic emphasizes comprehensive follow-up. As one client noted, the "frequent follow up appointments" were a key factor in their pet's smooth recovery, highlighting a dedication to post-operative monitoring and long-term eye health management.

  • Consultations and Referrals: The clinic serves as a referral center, working closely with general practice veterinarians to provide specialized opinions and treatment plans for complex or persistent eye problems.

Features and Expertise

The Animal Eye Clinic distinguishes itself through several key features and a profound level of expertise:

  • High Specialization: The clinic's sole focus on veterinary ophthalmology means they possess unparalleled expertise in eye health. This specialization translates into highly skilled diagnostic capabilities, advanced surgical techniques, and comprehensive knowledge of eye diseases, often leading to better outcomes for complex cases.

  • Exceptional Surgical Outcomes: The testimonials regarding pets regaining sight within days of cataract surgery ("Prince was able to see on Wednesday," "Toby has his sight back") powerfully demonstrate the clinic's surgical prowess and its life-changing impact on animals and their families. This level of success is a defining feature.

  • Expertise of Dr. Gwin and Team: Dr. Gwin is explicitly praised for his expertise and the positive results achieved. The entire team is recognized for their professionalism, dedication, and compassionate interaction with both pets and their owners. Their ability to manage "scared" pets and make anxious owners "relieved" is a testament to their bedside manner.

  • Thorough and Responsive Process: The clinic's efficiency in scheduling, from initial evaluation to surgery, and their commitment to "frequent follow up appointments" and being "always a phone call away," showcases a highly organized and patient-focused approach. This responsiveness minimizes anxiety for pet owners during critical periods.

  • Impactful Quality of Life Improvement: Beyond treating a condition, the clinic directly impacts the quality of life for pets. Restoring sight to a blind animal, as seen with Prince, allows them to return "to loving every second," highlighting the profound positive effect of their work.

  • Value for Investment: While specialized care can be an investment, clients clearly view the cost as "worth it" due to the dramatic improvements in their pets' lives and the expert care received. The transparency in providing an "estimate" upfront is also appreciated.

Promotional Information

Given its highly specialized nature, Animal Eye Clinic's primary promotion is its proven track record of successful outcomes and the glowing testimonials from satisfied clients. Their reputation within the veterinary community as a trusted referral center for ophthalmic cases also serves as a strong form of promotion. While specific, broad marketing campaigns are less common for such specialized clinics, they would likely highlight their expertise in cataract surgery and other complex eye conditions.

For individuals seeking specialized eye care for their pets at 4005 S 102nd E Ave, Tulsa, OK 74146, USA, it is highly recommended to contact Animal Eye Clinic directly at (918) 632-0508 or +1 918-632-0508. Their staff can provide information on consultation procedures, referral requirements (as often general veterinarians refer to specialists), specific services offered, and fee estimates. Their website (if available, likely under the name "Animal Eye Clinic" or "Veterinary Ophthalmologist Tulsa") would be the best source for detailed information about Dr. Gwin's credentials, the full range of ophthalmic services, and any patient forms or pre-visit instructions. My husband and I would like to share our gratitude for Dr. Gwin and Staff. Our 6 year old Miniature Schnauzer, Toby, was diagnosed May of 2024 with Diabetes. Our caring wonderful Vet has our trust caring for Toby. By late Fall it was evident Toby’s eye sight was impacted. Cataracts seemed to develop quickly and our Veterinarian referred us to Dr Gwin who we saw beginning of January 2025 for evaluation. We were relieved to hear Toby was a good candidate for surgery, which happened just days later. Elated, grateful and blessed can only describe how happy we are to say Toby has his sight back and his dark brown beautiful eyes are so sweet to look into. We are thankful for the expert dedicated care received by Dr Gwin and Staff. Please, don’t hesitate to have your precious fur baby looked at, their sight is precious to them too. This could change in a day just by making the positive decision.

Love Dr Gwinn, he is the best!! I highly recommend. He did corrective surgery on my dog after a vet messed up his eye twice in surgeries. I strongly suggest going Here for anything eye related. He was able to fix my dogs eye in one surgery. He was also able to fix my foster dogs eyes.
