I had a great experience at Animal Emergency and Specialty (AES) for a non-routine neuter and abdominal exploratory surgery for my 7.5 lb toy poodle. After searching extensively for a top board certified surgeon, I found Dr. Kelci McKeirnan (DVM, MS, DACVS-SA). Her long list of credentials and accomplishments included training veterinary students at OSU and performing numerous complicated surgeries. She was thorough, caring, and meticulous in her examination of my dog. I was confident that he would get the best of care and be carefully monitored throughout the surgery and hospitalization. Dr. McKeirnan explained everything to me and answered all my questions both before and after surgery. Everyone at AES was professional and kind. My dog healed beautifully with no complications. In the future, I will absolutely bring my pets here for any surgery or emergency veterinary care. (Another plus is that this clinic is independently owned.)

Dr. McKeirnan is a true gift. We were desperate for a 2nd opinion after our sweet girl was diagnosed with a terminal cancer and to adjust her palliative treatment to make her more comfortable. Vet offices are so overwhelmed right now that we couldn’t get in anywhere for weeks but by some miracle, Dr. McKeirnan had a last minute opening this afternoon. She reviewed our cub’s medical history from her primary vet along with the recent X-Rays and after her exam, confirmed the diagnosis we feared. Her compassion and knowledge was appreciated more than we can express. Not only did she explain everything about the diagnosis, but clearly laid out treatment plans along with her expert recommendations. We never felt rushed, she took the time to answer every question we had and even offered the most amazing advice to help us navigate through this unbearable journey. The adjustments she made to our girl’s pain meds made a world of difference this evening; for the first time in almost a week she ate her entire bowl of food and was walking comfortably. I will be forever thankful for the kindness Dr. McKeirnan and the rest of the staff showed us and will absolutely recommend this clinic to anyone in need of compassionate, thorough care of their pet in a time of need. Thank you for all your help.

wonderful people. I called over 10 different emergency vets in the area and they all told me it would be at least a 3 hour to 5 hour wait from CHECK IN. I called THIS vet and they told me I could come in right away. They quickly treated my cat who had severe infections from wounds. The price was reseasonable for a 24 hour vet. They were very throughout and even called to follow up. They quickly sent over my cat's treatment information to her primary vet the next day. I would reccomend this place. Unsure why it has such low reviews. It has been about 4 weeks now and my kitty has mostly fully healed. Thank you for saving my precious kitty!!

I don't wish any pet owner to take their beloved fur-baby to an animal hospital but if you do, take them to AES in Kirkland. My cat, Baloo, was in discomfort Monday night and started urinating lots of blood. I called AES, and they were able to get me in right away. (Due to COVID, it has been incredibly difficult to see a vet, and even AES is operating on reduced hours). It was past midnight, and they took my cat in right away. He ended up needing surgery and had to stay at AES for 2.5 days. Throughout his hospital stay, the staff kept checking in with me - especially Dr. Tungseth was exceptionally kind and compassionate. Also, big shout out to Dr. Minamoto, Kelci, Paige, Laura (and all the other phenomenal people whose names I can't remember) who took their time to make Baloo feel comfortable. I could not be more grateful!!!

I can't express how grateful I am for all the care my beloved dog received here. Things went down quickly when a blood test led to ultrasound screening and eventually an emergency splenectomy. Knowing it is most likely cancer and it might be worse than expected, I was heartbroken and terrified that he wouldn't make it through the surgery. The AES team is so compassionate. They let me stay with my dog in the exam room for a couple of hours the night before the surgery and allowed me to visit him several times after surgery, too. He really received the best care I could ask for. I still remember when Dr McKeirnan called me before the surgery to tell me that they would take care of my boy. I am still tearing up typing this. Thanks to Dr Mckeirnan, the surgery went well. The biopsy came back as cancer. While Dr Mckeirnan called me back about the biopsy result, she has already contacted the oncologist and a few experimental treatments to give me more options. The AES team is also very responsive via Email to all my follow-up questions. I truly feel they care about my boy wholeheartedly. No matter how our cancer-fighting journey unfolds in the future, I am so grateful to the AES team for saving my dog's life and buying us more time.
