Animal Emergency Clinic of Mid-Maine

Easter of 2025 was a day we don't want to relive but will remember forever.. our buna girl got a fishing hook with line caught in her mouth..we called everywhere and the only place to answer was mid maine animal clinic.. they helped us find resources to get financial help & told us to bring her in.. now here's where miracles happen.. after sedation and attempts to locate and remove the hook that moved further down and into the esophagus was unreachable the vet called us with a couple options, we were faced with being left to either probably surrender or watch our dog pass on.. one surgery being too risky the other being too expensive.. the vet then said let me try one more thing! 30 minutes later she called back, we thought oh god! But ... she says.. with this excitement in her voice "I GOT...I GOT IT..." we all burst into tears we couldn't freaking believe it!! It was a miracle.. our girl didn't even have a single wound! I wish I could of hugged that vet.. you woman whomever you are, are a blessing & miracle worker!! Truly Unbelievable!

A week ago, we arrived at the hospital around 10:30 in the evening. My cat was very lethargic and having a hard time to breath. The minute we walked in someone immediately took my baby out back. The whole time we were there I cannot say enough about how kind everyone was. We ended up leaving a few hours without him. They were so compassionate and gave us a great deal of time to say goodbye. They explained everything to us and they were absolutely wonderful. ❤️. I picked my cats remains the other evening and was very surprised to see the remains were in a beautiful wooden box with his name on it. Losing a pet is hard, but they made it much easier with their kindness, Thank You

We brought our indoor kitty to be put to sleep. Once we were actually seen they were fantastic. They were kind and compassionate. I was extremely impressed to get our kitty's remains back so quickly and in a beautiful wooden urn. The cost was much lower then expected too. The reason for 4 vs. 5 stars us their website could use a little updating. There is a button that says "request appointment". Expect the button directs you to call them, you call and then are informed they don't take appointments. We had to call once we arrived and wait in our car for nearly 2 hours. When you're there for something as emotional as death 2 hours seems like a lifetime to sit and ponder if you're doing the right thing for your fur baby or not. Overall we were satisfied with their service and would use them again in the future.

I had an awful experience at the Animal Emergency Clinic of Mid-Maine and will never be returning. I drove over an hour in a snowstorm at 1 a.m. because my cat was throwing up blood, lethargic, and refusing to eat. I called ahead, explained the situation, and was advised to bring her in. When I arrived, the clinic was empty, so we were seen immediately. I was incredibly emotional and genuinely thought my cat was going to die, but the receptionist showed no empathy. Instead, she laughed at me while I was visibly upset. After only taking my cat’s weight and temperature, she told me the vet wanted to do X-rays—but they wouldn’t proceed with any care unless I paid $400 upfront. I explained that I wasn’t getting paid until the next morning, but they showed zero compassion, coldly saying, “That’s protocol.” After arguing back and forth, they suddenly “discovered” an option for a partial treatment plan, allowing me to pay $200 upfront for anti-nausea fluids. If this was an option all along, why wasn’t it offered right away? The male vet on duty handled my cat roughly and made rude comments throughout the exam. When they took her to the back to administer fluids, I heard her scream from the waiting room, which was absolutely heartbreaking. They returned her to me and said if she continued to vomit, I should take her to a vet in the morning. Thankfully, my cat ended up being okay, likely due to eating something she shouldn’t have, but the experience at this clinic was terrible. The lack of compassion, rigid payment policies, and rough handling of my pet left me deeply upset. I would not trust them with my pet’s care again and do not recommend this clinic to anyone in an emergency.

I went to this clinic because they said they could see my bunny. If you have a bunny you know it’s hard to find anywhere to care for them in the time of an emergency. I tried to ask them before driving 1.5 hours if the vet was knowledgeable about bunnies because there was no sense to drive all that way for them to be clueless. When I got there they did get us in fairly quickly which was appreciated. However while sitting in the waiting room we could hear them out back laughing and joking about my bunnies name. Which is whatever, but not really appropriate at the time she’s very sick. They did an x-ray which was “inconclusive” and gave us no answers. They couldn’t determine whether they could help or not at this time and wanted to do bloodwork. They were letting me decide if I wanted them to or not and said they would check back. While waiting they finally put us into a room. We sat in there for close to 30 minutes waiting on someone to come back in so I could tell them I decided to proceed with treatment. However, they took so long to come back my bunny fell over and started convulsing. I myself had to open the back door and cry out for someone to come help. When they came in the excuse was that they were waiting on my decision on the bloodwork. I guess I was supposed to go out back and tell them I had decided to do it as they did not come in to check back. I got no answers other than that they weren’t sure what was wrong. Not every vet knows about rabbits which is fine. But this clinic should probably mention that instead of saying to bring them in to get more money when they know they don’t have the expertise to treat them. They only thing they had told me beforehand was that they couldn’t operate if it happened to be a blockage. If I had wanted to watch my rabbit die a painful death in front of me with no help I would have stayed home. Instead they charged me $500 to have this happen anyway. The worst part out of everything is that they didn’t even ask me if I wanted a paw print to be taken of her once she passed. Upon e-mailing them they said they ask everyone after losing a pet. Well they didn’t care enough to ask me. Not like they would have been paying for it as it’s an additional charge. That right there says everything you need to know. That’s a memory of my bunny I will now never have because they were so careless that they couldn’t offer me a simple service they “provide to everyone” Maybe this place is fine for other animals but do NOT take your bunny here. Note to the staff there, if memorial paw prints are a service you provide you need to offer it to everyone. I don’t care how busy you are that night, you might not care but when someone is losing a pet that is like their baby a paw print is a special memorial to have to remember them by. It would have meant the world to me to get one and instead I was left with nothing because your staff didn’t care enough to simply ASK if I wanted to pay the money to get one. Do better.
