My 2-year-old GSD had a malocclusion lower left canine. We had to cut the tip of the lower canine off and do pulp therapy. This was a one-year checkup with a different doctor in a different state. Dr. Burton was very polite, very professional in explaining what she needed to do and yet very loving with my dog. I explained to the nurse anesthetist that anesthesia and sedation affected him significantly and when doing both to make sure she started out at a light dose. While doing x-rays. They found a small tooth growing out the side of his left lower molar in the mucosa/ gum. Dr. Burton called me and formed me what she found and asked if I wanted to take that out, which she recommended. I agreed and they did. When I came to pick up mace in the afternoon he was fully recovered, alert and aware and just a little bit subdued. Within a day he recovered quite well and was eager to go play. I was very happy and definitely very pleased with how things went.

As a 'Pet Hospital' specializing in dental care, Animal Dental Services offers an advanced range of services specifically tailored to address various oral health issues in animals. Their expertise goes beyond routine cleanings, focusing on complex diagnostics and interventions.
-
Advanced Dental Diagnostics: The clinic utilizes sophisticated tools like dental X-rays, as evidenced by the discovery of a "small tooth growing out the side of his left lower molar in the mucosa/gum" during X-ray examination. This precision diagnostic capability allows for the identification of hidden problems beneath the gum line or within the bone.
-
Complex Oral Surgery: They are equipped to handle intricate surgical procedures such as malocclusion correction (correcting misalignment of teeth), including "cut the tip of the lower canine off." They also perform extractions, as seen with Frodo the cat, and removal of abnormal growths like the extra tooth found in the GSD's gum. This highlights their surgical proficiency in veterinary dentistry.
-
Pulp Therapy: The ability to perform "pulp therapy" for a damaged canine tooth demonstrates their commitment to saving teeth when possible, rather than resorting immediately to extraction. This advanced endodontic procedure requires specialized knowledge and equipment.
-
Anesthesia Management and Monitoring: A critical aspect of their services, especially given the nature of dental procedures, is their meticulous approach to anesthesia. Clients highlight that pets are "carefully monitored" during procedures, and that the clinic takes specific precautions based on individual pet sensitivities, ensuring safety even for animals with complex health issues like heart and kidney problems. This detailed attention to anesthetic protocols is paramount for patient well-being.
-
Post-Procedure Recovery Care: The feedback on recovery, such as the GSD being "fully recovered, alert and aware" within a day, indicates effective post-operative care and management, leading to rapid and comfortable healing.
-
Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment: While not explicitly stated, their thoroughness in finding a hidden tooth during X-rays implies a comprehensive approach to assessing the entire oral cavity during any procedure.
Animal Dental Services stands out due to several key features that are consistently praised by clients:
-
Specialized Expertise: Unlike general veterinary practices, their focus on dental care allows them to possess a deeper level of expertise and specialized equipment for complex oral conditions. Dr. Burton's specific knowledge in areas like malocclusion and pulp therapy is a significant advantage.
-
Professionalism and Clear Communication: Dr. Burton and her staff are repeatedly described as "very professional in explaining what she needed to do." They excel at explaining complex procedures and potential outcomes, which is crucial for pet owners making important health decisions.
-

The description of Dr. Burton being "very loving with my dog" and the careful monitoring of pets with health issues highlight their commitment to treating each animal as an individual with unique needs and sensitivities.
-
Meticulous Anesthesia Protocols: The attention to an animal's specific sensitivities to anesthesia, including starting at a "light dose," is a critical distinguishing factor that prioritizes patient safety, especially for pets with pre-existing conditions.
-
Positive Outcomes and Pain Relief: The success stories, such as the GSD's full recovery and Frodo the cat no longer being in pain after extractions, underscore the effectiveness of their treatments and the positive impact they have on the quality of life for pets.
-
Client Satisfaction: Phrases like "very happy and definitely very pleased" and "thrilled on the outcome" demonstrate a high level of client satisfaction, leading to strong recommendations.
Animal Dental Services primarily promotes itself through its excellent reputation in specialized veterinary dentistry, built upon positive client experiences and professional expertise.
-
Expertise as a Core Promotional Tool: Their specialized nature in dental care is a major draw. Pet owners specifically seeking advanced dental treatments for their animals will be drawn to a practice with proven expertise in this niche. The detailed accounts of complex procedures like pulp therapy and malocclusion correction serve as compelling evidence of their capabilities.
-
Word-of-Mouth and Referrals: Satisfied clients like those providing testimonials become powerful advocates. Their enthusiastic recommendations ("I was very happy and definitely very pleased," "thrilled on the outcome") are invaluable in generating new business through word-of-mouth. Veterinarians in general practice often refer complex dental cases to specialists like Animal Dental Services, further expanding their reach.
-
Emphasis on Patient Safety and Comfort: Highlighting their meticulous anesthesia management and compassionate handling of pets, especially those with pre-existing conditions, acts as a strong promotional message, reassuring owners about the safety and comfort of their beloved animals during procedures.
-
Clear Communication and Trust: The transparent communication regarding procedures and findings, as exemplified by Dr. Burton calling the owner about the extra tooth, builds immense trust. This level of transparency is a powerful promotional aspect, assuring clients that they will be fully informed and involved in their pet's care.
-
Accessibility for Specialized Needs: While dental care is a specialized field, the clinic's local presence at 11249 Kingston Pike in Knoxville, TN, makes expert care accessible without the need for extensive travel, which is a convenience factor for pet owners in the region.
-

Apr 22, 2025 · Michelle BoyesMy cat Frodo has heart and kidney issues and also a bad tooth that was causing him pain. The idea of putting him under anesthesia for the procedure to remove the tooth was a little stressful for me due to his health issues, but Dr Burton and her staff did a wonderful job explaining the procedure and ensuring me that he would be carefully monitored for his procedure. He had his extractions done last Wednesday, and I am thrilled on the outcome of the dental procedure, and glad that he is not in pain anymore.
May 12, 2025 · Rebecca WangI was so worried about the procedure but the staff and Dr Katy were all so sweet and reassuring that I felt better right away. When I picked my kitty up, I didn’t expect the amount of support I was given by the doctor and the staff. They called to check on him and answered all of the questions and concerns I had-right away. My cat had quite a few teeth removed but after a few days, he was feeling better than ever. I highly recommend this group for any of your pet’s dental issues! 👍
