Just wanted to let the whole animal loving world know how fantastic the Animal Clinic in Sussex is. This clinic is worth every penny you will spend there. Dr MacKenzie is a very talented, knowledgeable veterinarian. If she doesn’t know something, which is rare, she will research the issue until she finds the right answer. I used to live much closer to the clinic, but have moved almost 20 years ago. I will still spend the 45 minute drive to take my pets in for care. It’s a big family there and you are included when you go there. The clinic has made some beautiful changes in the front as well as in the back. I have taken my 12 cats, and 5 dogs there. I will never change vet offices. The doctors and whole team are very welcoming and friendly. You know your pet is getting the BEST of care. When the time comes to say goodbye to your beloved companion, the doctors are always honest with you and will help you make the right decision for you and your pet. Their compassion is overwhelming and I would get hugs and condolences from everyone there. Now I have recently gotten 3 more pups to love, and I know myself and my pups will get the best of care there. I trust them completely.

Took my 10 year old GSP to see Dr.Mackenzie last week for a second opinion. She was very thorough with his exam and took the time to answer any questions I had. The clinic was very clean, and the staff was very kind and welcoming to my dog Moose and I. I can tell Dr.Mackenzie has a passion for animals and their well being, and treated Moose like her own. I am very happy with our appointment, and will be coming back in the future.

I have known Dr. Vermey for many years, and getting to know her, she’s shared that becoming a veterinarian has always been her dream. Last year, my family lost all of our pets (a dog and 2 cats) very close together. Dr. Vermey is so compassionate and kind, and she and her team are very caring. I felt supported each time I had to say goodbye to each of my family’s fur babies. Dr. Vermey and her team were empathetic. I appreciated the card we received from the entire practice’s staff. I don’t live very close to the clinic, but the drive is worth it because of the care she provides. I will always take our new family pets to Dr. Vermey. If you’re looking for a clinic, definitely go here. All of her team-the other vets, vet technicians, and support staff are amazing!! I’m so glad to have found this clinic.

If I could leave a negative review, I certainly would. I was hoping to establish a relationship with a vet in Sussex since we split our time between here and up north. My main goal was to have a trusted vet available in case of an emergency while in Sussex. I scheduled an appointment this afternoon at Sussex Animal Clinic to have my dog’s anal glands expressed. When I called earlier, I was quoted $45 for the service, but no other details were provided. I arrived a few minutes early and waited in the waiting room. After about 20 minutes, the receptionist came over to inform me that my dog hadn’t been seen at the clinic this year, so there would be an additional $75 exam fee. I explained that my dog was current on his vaccines and had an exam just a couple of months ago at our other vet. I even had the records on my phone to show them, but they weren’t interested in looking at it. Had I known about this extra charge earlier, I would have made arrangements to have the procedure done elsewhere, as paying $120 for anal gland expression is excessive. Now it's after 5 PM, and I can’t get an appointment anywhere else, so my dog has to suffer discomfort for even longer. As a pet owner, I shouldn’t have to choose between paying an outrageous fee for a service that costs $20 elsewhere and letting my dog remain in pain. Additionally, my dog has severe anxiety, and I wouldn’t have subjected him to the 40-minute round trip for nothing. I wasted over an hour and a half of my time, and they showed no regard for the inconvenience, especially since I had to leave work and take PTO. I also learned that my dog was only three days shy of meeting the requirement for a yearly visit. Couldn't they have made an exception? Or at least waived the exam fee due to the inconvenience caused by their staff’s errors? If I had called last week, there wouldn’t have been an issue. Furthermore, when I brought my dog in for a wellness exam the previous year, I asked about his allergies and ear issues, but the vet had no practical solutions and just recommended seeing an animal nutritionist. The vet seemed to ramble without addressing my concerns directly. My dog was prescribed ear drops, despite the vet stating there was no ear infection. Overall, this vet seems more interested in making money than in the well-being of animals or providing useful information. Their lack of consideration for their clients’ time and the staff’s lack of knowledge is deeply troubling. I would not recommend this clinic.
