Horrible Experience - My Cat Is Worse Off After Surgery I took my cat to this clinic with a simple concern—a bump on her rear end with some discharge. Instead of mainly addressing that, I was told she needed immediate surgery for pyometra (removal of the uterus), something I had never heard of. I was completely shocked because she seemed fine besides the bump, but the doctor told me that without the surgery, she could die within hours or days. I felt completely pressured into going through with the surgery, even though my cat is elderly (16 years old) and I don’t have a lot of money and I repeatedly expressed that, but was told there was just no other way. In the end, I drained my savings and opened multiple credit cards to pay for the $2,500 surgery, hoping it would help my cat. But instead of getting better, she developed severe digestive issues. She lost so much weight that I could feel every bone in her body, she stopped eating, became severely constipated, and vomited after almost every meal. I booked a follow-up appointment to express my concerns, but the doctor seemed indifferent. I was told that the surgery was necessary and that I had missed a three-day follow-up appointment—something no one reminded me about, not the doctor nor the front desk and was told by the doctor that it wasn’t their responsibility to reach out to me in any way, mind you the only reminder was on a piece of paper with a list of medication instructions in small lettering in the bottom of the paper. I was made to feel like I was in the wrong, despite being the one who just spent everything I had on my cat’s care. Now, my cat’s condition has worsened to the point where she has organ issues, and they want me to pay an additional $1,600 for more treatment on top of the $2,500 I already paid. This clinic does not seem to care about your pet’s well-being; they just want your money. I am now over $5,000 in debt, and my cat is worse off than before. Please, before bringing your pet here, consider other options that will actually help your animals health and won't leave you financially ruined.

Ambassador Dog & Cat Hospital Introduce

Ambassador Dog & Cat Hospital, located at 3684 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90004, USA, operates as a comprehensive Pet Hospital dedicated to providing veterinary care for dogs and cats. With a history spanning over three decades in the Los Angeles community, this facility positions itself as a full-service animal hospital, aiming to offer a wide range of medical services from routine wellness to more complex procedures. Their stated mission is to provide "gold standard vet care" with compassion, striving to meet and exceed the healthcare needs of pets throughout all stages of their lives, from the earliest days of puppyhood and kittenhood through their senior years.

Environment and Approach

Ambassador Dog & Cat Hospital endeavors to create a welcoming, comfortable, and friendly atmosphere for both pets and their owners. While specific details about the interior decor or waiting area amenities are not broadly advertised, the hospital's sustained presence in the community for over 30 years suggests a commitment to a familiar and accessible setting. They aim to treat every pet with the same level of care and compassion as if they were their own. To better serve the diverse population of Los Angeles, the hospital proudly offers services in English, Spanish, and Korean, which significantly enhances communication and comfort for a broad range of clients. Additionally, they provide convenient features such as free parking and wheelchair accessibility, underscoring their focus on client convenience and ease of access.

A cornerstone of their operational approach is providing accessible care. They offer same-day and walk-in appointments during their regular business hours, a notable benefit for pet owners who require prompt veterinary attention for urgent, though not immediately life-threatening, concerns without the need for prior scheduling. This flexibility can be a considerable advantage when quick medical assessment is needed. Their philosophy is rooted in building a veterinary healthcare team committed to exceptional client service and delivering high-quality veterinary care. They highlight the experience of their support staff, many of whom have been with the hospital for over a decade, which can contribute to a consistent standard of care and a more reassuring environment for returning clients.

Comprehensive Services Offered

Ambassador Dog & Cat Hospital offers an extensive suite of veterinary services, encompassing general wellness, specialized treatments, and urgent care during their operational hours. Their services include:

  • Preventive & Wellness Care: This foundational aspect of their service focuses on proactive health management to maintain pets' well-being and prevent disease onset. Services typically include annual physical exams, tailored vaccination programs to suit individual pet lifestyles and risk factors, and effective parasite prevention strategies. They also offer wellness programs that emphasize preventative medicine based on a pet's specific life stage, incorporating age-appropriate diagnostics such as blood pressure screening, routine parasite tests, and comprehensive blood work.
  • Internal Medicine: For pets experiencing complex or chronic health issues, the hospital provides internal medicine services dedicated to diagnosing and managing a wide array of conditions affecting internal organs and systemic health. This includes addressing illnesses related to the digestive system, respiratory system, endocrine system, and more.
  • Veterinary Surgery: The hospital's surgical capabilities cover various procedures essential for restoring or improving a pet's health. This includes common soft tissue surgeries like spays, neuters, and tumor removals, as well as more specific procedures such as cystotomy (bladder stone removal). They have qualified surgeons capable of performing both general soft tissue and certain orthopedic surgeries.
  • Dental Care: Recognizing the critical role of oral health in a pet's overall well-being, Ambassador Dog & Cat Hospital offers comprehensive dental services. These typically include professional dental cleanings (often requiring anesthesia), dental extractions for diseased teeth, and addressing other oral health issues like gum disease.
  • Emergency Care: While not a 24-hour emergency and critical care center, the hospital is equipped to provide emergency and urgent care to patients during its regular business hours (Monday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM). This means pets experiencing sudden illnesses or injuries can receive immediate attention during these times. Pet owners facing such situations are strongly advised to contact the hospital right away to facilitate prompt care.
  • Diagnostics & Lab: To ensure accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans, the hospital utilizes a range of advanced diagnostic technologies. These include digital X-rays, which offer clearer images and quicker processing than traditional radiography; ultrasound, providing real-time imaging of internal organs; comprehensive bloodwork analysis; and ECG/EKG for assessing cardiac health. The presence of an in-house laboratory allows for faster turnaround times on many tests, which can be crucial in urgent cases.
  • Geriatric Care: Recognizing the unique health needs of aging pets, Ambassador Dog & Cat Hospital provides specialized geriatric care. This focuses on managing age-related conditions, monitoring chronic diseases, and implementing strategies to maintain the best possible quality of life for senior animals as they gracefully age.
  • Puppy & Kitten Care: Tailored programs are available for young animals, ensuring they receive all necessary foundational care. This includes initial wellness checks, a complete schedule of vaccinations, necessary deworming, and early health screenings to set them on a healthy developmental path.
  • Medical Boarding: For pets that require continuous medical supervision, administration of medication, or specialized care while their owners are away, the hospital offers secure medical boarding services and hospitalization care within the facility.
Key Features

Ambassador Dog & Cat Hospital distinguishes itself through several key operational features:

  • Long-standing Community Presence: With over 30 years of service in Los Angeles, the hospital has a deep understanding of local pet health needs and has built a long-standing relationship with the community.
  • Accessibility: The provision of walk-in and same-day appointments during business hours offers significant flexibility and convenience, especially for urgent, non-life-threatening conditions.
  • Multi-lingual Services: Offering services in English, Spanish, and Korean makes the hospital accessible to a broader range of pet owners in the diverse Los Angeles metropolitan area, fostering better communication and trust.
  • Comprehensive In-House Services: As a full-service hospital, they aim to address the majority of a pet's health needs under one roof, from preventive care and diagnostics to surgery and dental procedures, providing a convenient and integrated care experience.
  • In-House Pharmacy: The presence of an on-site pharmacy allows for immediate dispensing of prescribed medications upon discharge, enhancing convenience for pet owners. They also facilitate online prescription refills and product orders.
  • Flexible Payment Options: To alleviate the financial burden of veterinary care, Ambassador Dog & Cat Hospital accepts various financing options, including CareCredit and Scratchpay. These third-party services allow clients to manage costs through payment plans. Major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express) and cash are also accepted.
  • Transparent Estimates: The hospital is committed to providing good-faith estimates of service costs before any treatment or significant procedures are initiated. They typically require an upfront deposit for initial examinations and larger deposits for further hospitalization, diagnostic testing, or surgical procedures, ensuring financial transparency.
Promotional Information and Customer Experiences

Ambassador Dog & Cat Hospital promotes itself through its long-standing presence, its comprehensive range of services, and its accessibility features such as walk-in appointments and multi-lingual staff. Their online advertising and presence often highlight their commitment to "gold standard" compassionate care and the convenience of their central location.

However, customer experiences, as reflected in online reviews, present a nuanced picture. One detailed review recounts a deeply troubling experience involving an elderly cat. The pet owner described feeling heavily pressured into an expensive pyometra surgery, despite expressing significant financial constraints and concerns about their 16-year-old cat's age. The surgery, costing $2,500, allegedly led to severe post-operative digestive issues, significant weight loss, and other complications for the cat. The review also highlights a significant communication breakdown: the owner was not reminded of a crucial three-day follow-up appointment, and when concerns about the cat's worsening condition were raised, the doctor was perceived as indifferent and disclaimed responsibility for follow-up reminders. The customer felt blamed and ultimately ended up over $5,000 in debt, with their cat's health reportedly worse than before, leading to a strong recommendation for others to consider alternative veterinary options.

Conversely, another customer shared a very positive experience, praising the "professional and sweet care" provided to their six-month-old kitten, Bison. This review particularly highlighted the gentleness and caring attitude of the staff and doctor, and described the clinic as clean and professional, with a notable absence of the usual stress associated with vet visits. This positive account specifically mentions being drawn to the hospital by their Google ad, indicating that their online promotional efforts successfully attract satisfied clients.

These contrasting customer experiences underscore the complexities inherent in veterinary practice, especially when dealing with critical or costly medical interventions. While Ambassador Dog & Cat Hospital offers a wide array of services and aims for a high standard of care, individual client experiences can be significantly impacted by factors such as the nature of the medical case, financial considerations, and the effectiveness of communication throughout the treatment process. Prospective pet owners considering Ambassador Dog & Cat Hospital should take these varied experiences into account, appreciating the comprehensive services and accessibility features, while also being prepared to proactively engage in discussions about treatment plans, potential costs, and follow-up expectations.

I went over here due to their ad on Google. I was very pleased at the professional and sweet care to my baby cat Bison 🦬 who was explained about the doctor by me her Mom. She's six months and they were very gentle and caring with the both of us. It is clean and professional, I've been a pet sitter and the normal stress was non-existent. Thank you and see you soon!

We’ve brought our 2 kittens to get seen for regular check ups, to their shots, and when they’ve been sick. Every single time we have received quality of service, care, attention to our pets and have had our concerns addressed and most importantly explained with great detail. This is our go to place for quality care and service for our fur babies.

We took our 15yr old FIV kitty for help ensuring his comfort during his final weeks. Dr. Angie Wong was wonderful & took time to explain all of our options. The entire staff was caring, with Vet. Tech Jessica being a particulary shining light, during what could have been a very stressful visit; she was very gentle & took time with our dear kitty. We were referred by a close friend & will definitely use Ambassador again & will refer to others. BONUS: stress-free designated parking
